CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO MY HEART AND SOUL
this is a wasteland now

OK, it's only July (it took me a moment to think of what month it was, yikes), and I'm already fretting over what my favorite album of the year will be. I've got it narrowed down to five, but choosing the order is causing me to break out in hives:

Interpol - Antics
The Killers - The Hot Fuss
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
Muse - Absolution

My gosh! Um... I really fucking love music. My ears are constantly happy and 2004 has made my ears dance so much!

What's your top five?

(btw, if you're wondering why Modest Mouse is missing, it's because whenever i listen to the album i skip directly to "float on" and play it on repeat until someone throws a shoe at my head)

Also, totally off topic, but i've got the strongest urge to take Ashlee Simpson under my wing. I honestly think i can be a good influence on her. I feel like she's lost and needs guidence and I am just the right person to give that guidence to her. I'd make her mix tapes. Take her to shows. Help her write songs. It'd be so much fun. She'd also end up a raging alcoholic, but i mean, she wants to be rock and roll right?

  3. seriously, i think you should go back to how this blog used to be... about all kinds of good bands, not the same ones every day that all sound alike.

  4. last point in the year when i made a top five it was:
    1. Modest Mouse: Good News For People Who Love Bad News
    2. The One Inch Punch: Horsehead Nebula
    3. TV on the Radio: Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
    4. Air: Talkie Walkie
    5. Liars: They Were Wrong, So We Drowned
But that was a while ago...
Now I've got to figure out where the new PJ Harvey, Wilco, The Cure, Interpol albums fit into this megastructure. Oh yeah and I was late to jump on the Franz-train so that's gotta make it on there somewhere.

  7. I vote for Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. It is a fucking modern masterpiece. It is 4 times better than "I Brought You...". It is the mixture of Glassjaw, Deftones, Refused, and My Chemical FUCKING ROMANCE!!!
    I. Love. This. Album.

Also: #2 should be The Killers. Why? hmm..."Believe Me Natalie", for one. "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine", or "Somebody Told Me', if youre nastay.

#3 is Muse because track 4 is the fucking SHIT, and #4 is franz.

Interpol is not in the running for me yet because i cant find the fucking torrent? Sarah, help???

    The Walkmen
    Franz Ferdinand
    TVOTR
    Kanye West
    Modest Mouse

  9. Please Morrissey to the above list. Which would then make it my top 6 list. In no particular order of course

  14. The picture of Brandon on top is screaming this is a Killers fan site, Sarah. :)
But while some people in the music trade don't have the balls to appreciate the Killers, you do. Thanks.
    Killers' for lovers.

  20. Ok my top five would have to be...
    1)Muse-Absolution
    2)Keane-Hopes and Fears
    3)The Killers-Hot Fuss
    4)The Walkmen-Bows and Arrows

  21. top 5
    Bows and Arrows, The Walkmen
Now Here is Nowhere, The Secret Machines
    Ratatat, Ratatat
    Inches, Les Savy Fav

After that I don't know. Antics, or Franz Ferdinand, or Blueberry Boat by the Fiery Furnaces, or the new Hives, or Libertines...

And I want to "take Ashlee Simpson under my wing" too, if you catch my drift. Wink wink knudge knudge. I wanna do her.

Having an after-Siren gathering this year?

  22. within the last year...

Less than Jake "B is for B-Sides"
    Four Star Mary "Welcome Home"
The Get Up Kids "Guilt Show"
    Three Days Grace
    The Killers "Hot Fuss"

  23. My five:
    Franzie Ferdie
    Interpol
    The Boxer Rebellion
    Iron and Wine
    The Hiss

My problem is albums that start well and then run out of gas. Seems like there's a lot of these this year; Modest Mouse, Libertines, Gomez, Mascott. If the Killers were ugly nobody would listen to them.

  24. no way! when i first heard the killers' "jenny" on their website, i asked people i knew in vegas if they were cute. they told me no and i was still obsessed with them. turns out the people i know in vegas have really bad taste in boys (prolly cause they are boys). btw, this was before the band had a photo on their site -- or the one they had just wasn't telling at all

  25. FF
    TV on the Radio
    Modest Mouse
    Sonic Youth
    PJ Harvey

and the 6th man: Badly Drawn Boy (one plus one is one)

As for the Simpsons...I'd still rather watch Bart and Homer than Ashlee and Jessica.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Walkmen
    Franz Ferdinand
    Modest Mouse
    Air
    Erlend Oye's DJ Kicks

And for the record, I have Ultragrrrl to thank for the best song of the year. When you played "C'mon C'mon" at the Mike Joyce/Andy Rourke DJ night at CentroFly I almost peed my pants. That's been my 2004 favorite ever since.

  27. it's official, my taste in music is not that original. Somewhere out there is a Top 40 list i subscribe to, i just don't know it yet.

    interpol - antics
    keane - hopes and fears
    snow patrol - final straw
Polyphonic spree - The Begining Stages of ...

  28. Not to be a stickler, and I dig the fact that Muse is getting so much love from the folks around here, but Absolution came out last year. So wouldn't that make it ineligable for Top Disc of 2004?

On the plus side, it opens a new slot for everyone to love another disc!

    ReplyDelete
  29. If the Killers were ugly nobody would listen to them.

Heh. Ya, I just don't get the buzz. Maybe I have to see them live but the album left me kind of cold.
