Consider a website? I can understand why you want to stop blogging, but you are such a vital force on the internerd! Stick around in some form, please?
Ultra, I have been reading your blog for a while now... I am a big fan of your work in Spin and as lame as this sounds I really felt like I got to know you and admired you and swore to myself that I would be as cool as you one day, and possibly drink more than you... :) Please don't stop blogging it's the hightlit of my day... But I understand... Reconsider though please? So i can atleast feel as cool as you ;)
I'll miss reading your blog. While I know these comments probably won't convince you to come back if you have already made up your mind, I just wanted to let you know that you are very entertaining and write wonderfully. I could picture everything you described. And I'll miss your pictures of cute animals as well. Good luck to you.
Umm. Sarah is the nicest thing ever. I once spent five hours next to her on a plane watching her held feed and comfort an old hindi man that she did not know purely out of kindness for the entire duration of the flight.
You would have ignored this man.
She holds doors open for mothers everywhere.
You speed up so you don't have to.
She exposes her life and opens herself up to faceless criticism from self-righteous fucks.
Don't ever say shit about Sarah. And if you do, you would have to stay anonymous because I have witnessed the loyalty of her friends first hand through out the western world and she is one bad person to insult.
Have you spent time with her? Have you ever sat down with her for dinner?
And if you thought it was crap, why did you read it?
all of you belong in ninth grade. don't you have anything better to do with your lives than sit on the internet all day long!?!?!?!/
if not for your computer, you would all be friendless.
its really sad.
WHOEVER the assface is who wrote this. Think before you go on the internet and post. You're making fun of people who post on the internet...by posting on the internet....eeeeeeeewwwwww baby/ I dont wanna fuss and fight/ I just wanna make things right//eeeeewwwwwwwwww....babbbbyyyyyyyyyy....Sarah will put all these mofos to shame....she once gave me the finger while doing an oldschool spin back....
i am very aware that by posting on the internet about people on the internet is hypocritical. am i am idiot? no. i do not have a blog that i write onto 10 times a day, spending hours a day on the computer, meeting people on the internet, talking about people on the internet...oh god it makes my head spin.
im just saying that a lot of people are way too wrapped up with computers/internet, when they are really just hiding behind the screen. go out and live!
Also, lots of us have crappy jobs that force us to spend 40 hours a week in front of a computer. We get bored. This was a really nice escape from that boredom and it will be missed.
Hey, I'm bummed as well. I just want to say thanks though-- I checked your website every day and I really respect your music opinions. Plus you're a great dj! -Jess
For whatever its worth, I developed a fun little crush on you in the months that I've known about your site. Good luck with the future, and hopefully you'll keep writing both in Spin and with other publications...not to mention more TV gigs. Good luck, wish you'd stay.
For what it's worth, I too developed a little blog crush on Sara despite the fact that we didn't start off on the right foot. I will definitely miss this blog.
thank you Sarah for your blog. it's been awesome reading it. i'm glad some people can move on in their life. some say changes are no good. i guess they're wrong.
i've been reading your blog and Karen+1's and ikeepadiary.com and lindsayism and whatevs's for 6 or 7 months now and it's true that i feel like i know a bit about yourself. so the idea of not hearing from you ever again is sad (as weird as it may seem). and from the little things that i got to know about you, i can say i'm sure Greg's 100% right when he writes that you are one of the nicest people on earth. nice, talented and hot at the same time. that's rare.
i wish there will be a way i get to know what you're up to in like ten or twenty years. maybe you'll be writing cover stories for Spin. maybe i'll see you on television. If so, please choose a channel that's broadcasted in france.
in 10-20 years sarah will probably be doing just what sia m. is doing: selling out to a large commercial audience, Djing at cheesy pop parties, and hoping that everyone thinks she is cool (like in high school).
so what if she is doing that? it beats having a boring ass routine. sarah rules. it's sad that most of you havent met her, truly sad. you would be eating your words if you "actually" knew her.
Sarah, I came across your blog when doing an online search last fall for Bar 13's Shout! At that time, I wasn't even sure what a blog was and then when I did realize, I thought, "How lame." But your blog definitely wasn't lame, and I quickly became addicted to reading it -- and recommended it to friends who would appreciate it.
Your blog was my supplement to other reading materials on the "indie" rock scene and NYC nightlife (other materials included Tristan's Voice column, Filter, Bang, NME, Magnet, Bust, Venus, Crashin In, MotherNYC, and free local mags). Your blog was just as entertaining and informative.
I will miss your blog.
-Gina M.
P.S. Please love yourself more. Not in the masturbatory sense, but in nurturing who you are on the inside. Sometimes, your self-deprecatory humor was funny, but other times I thought, "I hope that this girl knows that she's a valuable human being."
P.P.S. I loved your party pics and your pics with celebrities. My faves included the one where you balanced the beer bottle on top of your hand (I can't do that!) and the one where the little boy had on the T-shirt that read, "I slept with Michael Jackson, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt." That was hilarious.
i'm guessing: a) conflict of interest b) sarah no longer works at spin c) ultra has gotten sick and tired of being a groupie either way - very intriguing!
One more person who only "knew" Sarah through the site, &c. who is sorry to see this blog go away... Good luck with everything and all that. I really enjoyed the blog. Thanks for writing what you did when you did. -Emily
Let's all just relax and assume she was having a bad morning. I'm sure she'll be back in some form or another.
Oh, and let's all have a good long laugh at that guy who told Sarah Effing Lewitinn she should "get out more and LIVE!!!". Does he even read this site? As her roommate I can assure him she does nothing but.
Also, everything Greg said was true. As a kind and loving person, Sarah has no equal. Cowardly anonymous commenters who say anything different obviously don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
-Lindsay (it won't let me sign in except anonymously)
Sarah I hope this means that you've stopped trying to be sober and that you'll keep partying and bloggng so all us uncool kids can live vicariously through you and your rock'n'roll adventures... You're an inspiration! And I hope that while Ultragrrl may be gone defunct that an "UltraSarah" will emerge soon... Cheers babe! Miss Valerie rocksnob.cjb.net
good. not because i hate sarah (she's actually one of the few "bloggers" i respect), but because buying a domain for your livejournal in hopes of becoming some d-rate local celeb is becoming far too easy and common. most are people who want to be in bands but lack any form of musical talent and are too self-conscious to risk making idiots of themselves in front of......other people with blogs.
i really wish the rest of them out there would stop taking pictures and thinking of clever things to write and just LISTEN to the band that's playing....be there, in that moment. if you're taking a picture to capture a moment, if you are consciously doing that, you are not lost in that moment. you have a record of something you didn't experience. nor are you in said moment if your mind is on clever this-band-meets-this-band descriptions. It's like spending all of your vacation taking pictures to prove you had fun instead of just having fun. I wish the bloggers would start bands themselves. They'd have the right influences.
I'm saying all of this anonymously (i'm calling it so you can't). But I don't think I'm wrong.
if i may, to quote the great 90's group, no mercy:
Please don't go Please don't go
If you leave me You let a good thing fall apart If you decive me You leave a pain inside my heart I really need you Just like the air I need to breathe I'll stand beside you I'll never leave
Please don't go Please don't go Don't you know that I love you so.
i don't see why so many people shit on sarah. she is one of the few people who's blog focuses on positivity and good times and fun and frivolity. she has never once tried to make herself seem "cool" or "hip" by talking shit about others.
and to the people who have made comments about people who blog not having a life and spending too much time trying to prove how great they are.. you're obviously the ones taking this seriously, not sarah. it's clear to anyone that has had contact with sarah in real life or over the internet, that she does what she does for fun. why is that a bad thing?
if you don't like it, why have you been reading it? people that get off on putting other people down are funny.
Hope it has nothing to do with any trouble at work. This blog is the reason I started reading Spin. She has helped the mag tremendously. But I thought that her openness about the interview with JC was perhaps a bit much.
I'm the anonymous poster who wants them to form bands instead......
I probably came off meaner than I meant to. I don't dislike Sarah. I don't know Sarah. I know I'm a netgeek.
But blogging is no longer cool. It's no longer fun, exciting, or interesting. You can't hide behind a website forever. Good for Sarah for knowing that. She used her site as a platform to get herself out there a bit more, and it's done serving that purpose. Or perhaps she simply doesn't feel like documenting her life publicly anymore.
the bottom line is that sarah is funny, sweet and her writing is obviously interesting enough to make all of us keep reading it.
why do people insist on assigning some kind of deeper meaning to this or any blog? if it keeps someone from dying of boredom at their job, i say that's reason enough.
it's not like people think this is saving lives or some shit.. it's the goddamn internet. why must we always make it about more than it really is.
fun to write, fun to read. and obviously it's not fun for her to write anymore, which i can completely understand. i mean when people make personal comments about you acting like they have some idea of who you really are and make snap judgements about you.. it turns something fun into something where insecure people vent their frustrations on a sweet girl just living her life.
Sarah is rocknroll and honest and thoroughly refreshing. wwwwinterwebblogeeks - don't kill yr idols. Maybe she needs to take a break. Maybe- just MAYBE - she's gotta deal with some real stuff in the living, breathing, world where we all have families, bills, dealing wit the circumstances. Like we all have to do at times. And she's given us lots of pleasure and ingenious music tips. For free. And with charm. So y'all dont be asses.
At any rate, its her business. Respect that. Ultragrrls site has been a PUBLIC SERVICE. Don't forget that.
sarah, fuck these haters! i've never posted on a blog (though i read a bunch- like yours- voraciously) but i just wanted to write in to thank you for all of your great posts. what's going on with you? can i beg you to reconsider? i'm not like these dudes posting on here asking you not to go cuz i've got a big crush on you- i'm just some girl who thinks you are nice who has enjoyed hearing about your life and following your career. in fact, you inspired me to write about rock music myself. so....please, please, please let me get what i want- don't desert us without an explanation!!
i've been reading you religiously for a few months now, and it finally got me excited about living in new york. i hope you'll still keep some sort of website to let people like me know when cool things are coming up and when/where you'll be dj-ing.
Sarah, I was so upset when I read about ending your blog! I came across it a while back and became hooked. I really enjoyed reading all your stories. You have great taste in music. I hope you change your mind cause you will definately be missed! -Jaclyn
Thank you for keeping a teenage girl stuck in the middle of nowhere informed about the awesome world you have! If Sarah wants to stop blogging people, it's her deal. Sure, I love reading her blog, it brightens my day, but she does have a life. Thanks Sarah for the awesome blog! You rock my socks! -Lisa
ireland will miss you sarah. and to think that i'm coming to new york this summer because of what brian at Ikeepadiary and you here were writing about the coolest damn city on earth! i can't wait! best of luck for the future...
What the hell? This is unacceptable! Sarah, please keep writing. I live in San Francisco, and love reading about your life in NYC. Come back! What happened? Jocelyn
most of you who read this blog dont know sarah. i realize you might think you do but you dont. she doesnt owe any of us an explanation why this blog is done. neither does she owe us a confirmation or denial that she was fired at spin. someone above me had it right...this was a public service.
so wish sarah well, thanks her for the great memories and move on. go out and dance, see a band, get trashed do whatever...resume your life.
sarah i wish you well, thanks for the wonderful blog and enjoy the rest of your life. if i see you in ny i might say hi and tell you thanks in person but seriously, good luck. dont let these antibloggerazis piss you off.
hahahahahahahahaha where are you coming from? rolling stone is the king of BAD BAD music writing. so is spin. i don't get it. just becuause pop singers look good in tight jeans DOES NOT MAKE THEM MUSICIANS. you are soooo stupid i could scream. this is what is wrong with america. my god.
why don't you people do something meaningful with your lives. stop tallking about one hit wonders from the east village. how freakin cliche.
did you even go to college?
some interesting news: someone only got their current writing job at a music magazine because she slept her way into it. no joke. no lie. i was there.
Did you, asshole? Sense of entitlement much? If you had the benefit of a college education, or even the most rudimentary understanding of standard written English, you might grasp the following irony...
Nice fuckin' grammar... "their" is a pronoun referring to a plurality, whereas "her" should be used with regard to the singular...such as, "her job". When you send a fuck you letter to someone, make sure that it's proofed to within an inch of its life...otherwise you end up looking like, well, you. I guess they didn't teach you that in college. Shame. That's what's wrong with America, I'm afraid.
And, for the record, what does anyone's education level have to do with anything re: these comments? Sorry that no one digs Manilow as much as you do. Eat a bowl of dicks, and find a different outlet to vent your self loathing.
its so obvious that all of you were fat teenagers who never got invited to anything. get a life!!!
my one writing mistake has nothing to do with my college education. im talking about having a sense of the world/culture/knowledge beyond the pop trash that you circle your lives around.
i mean to actually being doing something good in this world. not running around gossiping and caring about little rich boys from nyc who decide to start bands. ones who have never picked up an instrument until they decided they need something to do during the day.
its all bullshit, can't you see? i dont get how you can live your life like this. and sarah, of all people, who claims to be a journalist, puts the link up to iraq beheading. all you care about is sensationalism...what excites YOU.
the rest of the world could give a fuck about YOU.

Please keep blogging. It is the only way I know how to keep up with things that are cool. Seriously.
Oh damn, who is going to hook me up with hot PandaDog action?
Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you'll reconsider, or come back after awhile. I'll miss you.

Sarah, I respect your decision, but I don't agree. Your charm and sense of humor will be missed. Hope everything is ok.
don't believe her. she's drunk. ultrablog 4 ever.
At least give us your reason Sarah???
I totally respect the decision. I say more Sarah, less Ultra. I like Sarah.
I'll miss reading your blog. While I know these comments probably won't convince you to come back if you have already made up your mind, I just wanted to let you know that you are very entertaining and write wonderfully. I could picture everything you described. And I'll miss your pictures of cute animals as well. Good luck to you.
oh thank god! no more bragging. no more name dropping. no more high school crap.
I agree with people commenting that you should keep the website, if only to post current going-ons and whatnot.

Wow. Sure are a lot of jealous people posting here. When's the last time CNN asked you for your professional opinion on any subject matter?
And what's the point of hating on Sarah? Use that backed-up anger to speak out about the war, or homeless children, or something that really matters.

I was so upset when I read about ending your blog!

I liked you blog. Now I'll have to find something you've written in Spin. I don't even like Spin...
ireland will miss you sarah. and to think that i'm coming to new york this summer because of what brian at Ikeepadiary and you here were writing about the coolest damn city on earth! i can't wait! best of luck for the future...
Well that sucks ass. Hopefully you may have a change of heart. If not I'm just going to have to live in denial and real your archives.
Darling, it was over before it began.
are you sober now?
so did ultra get fired from spin or what?
the magazine sucks anyway, but we're all interested to know.
was is because of what she said about JC?
that was pretty funny, actually.
sarah, if you did get fired because of that: it is well worth it!
go work for Rolling Stone or something.
..lol
What the hell? This is unacceptable! Sarah, please keep writing. I live in San Francisco, and love reading about your life in NYC. Come back! What happened? Jocelyn
Who is JC and what did she say about JC?
I will miss this blog.
ah hello?
most of you who read this blog dont know sarah. i realize you might think you do but you dont. she doesnt owe any of us an explanation why this blog is done. neither does she owe us a confirmation or denial that she was fired at spin. someone above me had it right...this was a public service.
so wish sarah well, thanks her for the great memories and move on. go out and dance, see a band, get trashed do whatever...resume your life.
sarah i wish you well, thanks for the wonderful blog and enjoy the rest of your life. if i see you in ny i might say hi and tell you thanks in person but seriously, good luck. dont let these antibloggerazis piss you off.
"go work for rolling stone"
hahahahahahahahaha
where are you coming from? rolling stone is the king of BAD BAD music writing. so is spin. i don't get it. just becuause pop singers look good in tight jeans DOES NOT MAKE THEM MUSICIANS. you are soooo stupid i could scream. this is what is wrong with america. my god.
why don't you people do something meaningful with your lives. stop tallking about one hit wonders from the east village. how freakin cliche.
did you even go to college?
some interesting news: someone only got their current writing job at a music magazine because she slept her way into it. no joke. no lie. i was there.
"did you even go to college?"
Rock on Sarah!!
its so obvious that all of you were fat teenagers who never got invited to anything. get a life!!!
my one writing mistake has nothing to do with my college education. im talking about having a sense of the world/culture/knowledge beyond the pop trash that you circle your lives around.
i mean to actually being doing something good in this world. not running around gossiping and caring about little rich boys from nyc who decide to start bands. ones who have never picked up an instrument until they decided they need something to do during the day.
its all bullshit, can't you see? i dont get how you can live your life like this. and sarah, of all people, who claims to be a journalist, puts the link up to iraq beheading. all you care about is sensationalism...what excites YOU.
the rest of the world could give a fuck about YOU.
Sarah i think you GREAT and i adore your blog
