POPSERIOUSNESS

There's a new website called PopSerious that i'm contributing to along with some really cool people. There's a bunch of columns, and the column i'm contributing is called The Bullshit Gourmet. My posting should be up shortly, but here's a preview:

FIRST POST!:

The Bullshit Gourmet

What is the Bullshit Gourmet?
The Bullshit Gourmet is easy, cheap, and delicious food that you can make on your own. If I can make it, you can make it.

Balsamic Pasta Salad

What You'll Need:

1/2 - 3/4 cups of Balsamic Vinegar (depending on your taste)
2 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 lb Fusilli Pasta
3/4 of a chunk of Polly-O Mozzarella Cheese
1/4 cup of cilantro
3 Bell Peppers of any color
Salt and Pepper to taste.
Cutting board
1 Large bowl
Knife
Large Sauce pan
1 colander

First put the balsamic pasta and oil into the large bowl.

Chop up the peppers

Chop the cilantro and put the cilantro and peppers into the large bowl.

Chop up the mozzarella

Put the Mozz in the bowl

Stir the peppers, cilantro, cheese, balsamic vinegar, and oil together and let sit. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Boil a few quarts of water in the sauce pan and then put the pasta in. Let cook for like, 7 or 8 minutes, or until al dente (which means it's edible but not mushy). Rise and drain the pasta in cold water so that the pasta is no longer warm. Pour the pasta into the bowl with the peppers and mozz.

I forgot to take a picture of the end result because I'm dumb.

But here are photos of my friend Chris Black eating the pasta salad and enjoying it:

Tempura Bananas with Vanilla Yogurt

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

3/4 cups of ice cold water
2 cups of tempura batter
4 bananas
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons of sugar
2 cups of vegetable oil
1 small cooking pot
1 small mixing bowl

Mix together the cold water, tempura batter, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and sugar.

Slice the bananas and stir into tempura batter mixture.

Make sure banana slices are totally coated and covered

Boil the vegetable oil.

With a pair of tongs or a fork, drop a piece of the tempura coated banana into the boiling oil. Be careful! You can put about 3 or 4 pieces in at a time. Pull out hte pieces when they turn a golden brown like the ones in the photo above.

when you pull them out they'll look like zeppoli's doughnuts or something.

my artsy photo of them.

Place a bunch of the fried bananas into the bottom of a bowl.

Put a few scoops of vanilla yogurt on top of the bananas.

Try looking as cute as Gurj when eating it!!!!

CLOVERFEILD

I went to see the monster movie, Cloverfeild, on monday night. As a superinsane fan of LOST, i was expecting a lot from JJ Abrams and I was pretty pleased. I would've done the movie a bit differently where the NYC theater ending would be different than any other ending shown.

Anyway, me, gurj, brandon and vin decided to make our own version of cloverfeild as soon as we walked out of the movies. We're such fucking losers, but this is kinda funny.

SLEDDING IN PARK CITY!

Me, Geordon Nicol, Leigh Lezark, Brad Walsh and my buddy Wyatt Bozwell, blew up an inflatable mattress and walked it up a hill (covered in 3 feet of snow) and rode it down. It was so much fun! Enjoy the videos.

NYLON Magazine's Editor, Marvin Scott Jarrett, did an amazing documentary about the Horrors' first full American tour called Counting In Fives. The doc will be premiering at Sundance on Friday!!!! I'll be there! I'm so excited!

This is such a big deal for Stolen Transmission Records, myself and everyone ever involved with the Horrors. It's such an honor!

"TV DINNER" COVER

BIOLOGICAL WARFARE!

The craziest shit happened to me on the subway on wednesday...

I had spent the majority of my day at the Norwood, this arts club on 14th street I got a fellowship to which has been doubling as the new Stolen Transmission office. I spent the day there with Rob and Jo, going over plans for the year, meeting with people, organizing shit, drinking the cheapest wine on the menu and feeling like a million bucks. I was caught up on sleep (finally), and excited to meet up with my former intern Courntey and her friend Derek for dinner with Jo.

Jo and I hopped on the 14th street A train at about 7:20 and were just chatting about how nice it was to see an old friend that came to visit us at the Norwood. I remember glancing up and seeing this older dude who looked a bit sickly with frazzled gray hair and rough skin and an odd demeanor... angry almost. 5 minutes later, at our next stop at West 4, Jo and I were walking off the train when I felt a gust of air hit my face. I looked up and saw that older sickly guy and said "Did you just blow in my face?" as sweetly and innocently as possible.
"You started it!" he said. I was confused.
"What do you mean? Why did you do that?"
And then he did it again!

Joanna saw the whole thing and pulled me out of the subway and we just stared at each other in disbelief. "Maybe you bumped into him?" she offered as a reason for his crazy.

We got to Vegetarian Paradise and sat down. I started eating my dinner and suddenly got a hot spell. I stood up and walked out of the restaurant to get some fresh air, and five minutes later I came back in and joked that I was old and going through menopause... and I noticed my throat started to feel sore.

About 10 minutes later I started feeling really ill again and said I had to leave immediately because I really wasnt feeling well. I paid for the dinner since I caused it's early end, and ran to a cab. I was feeling ok with the window open and the breeze hitting my face, but by the time I got to my corner on the LES I could hardly keep my eyes open cause I was in so much pain. I quickly paid my fare and ran to the building where i could hardly stand in the elevator. I thought I was for sure going to pass out.

I rushed through the door and puked three times.... everything out. I texted brandon who rushed home from Brooklyn only to find me in fetus position on the couch. I've been sick with like, a bad chest cold, sore throat, fucked up ears ever since!

BEWARE OF THE CRAZIES ON THE SUBWAY!

OH HOW I LOVE ISIGHT

I just borrowed Josh's iSight and I've been trying to broadcast the stolen transmission parties on stickam, but the reception is never good at the Hanger Bar. So sad, but i guess it means that the scandals that happen in the DJ booth dont actually get broadcasted.

My first love affair with iSight happend when I saw all those kids on youtube singing along to their favorite songs and posting them online. It seems silly, but it's sort of entertaining.

PlayRadioPlay! decided to go with that concept with their video for "Compliment Each Other Like Colors," which was shot all on iSight and directed by Josh Mond (who brought his talent of ligthing to the fold). The end result was pretty cool. Check it:

I was kind of the same way about Thom Yorke:

"i love his looks, his personality, his wonkey eye, his voice...."

I LOVE THE CARTOONS

Tonight me, peter and quinn were talking about our favorite block of cartoons: Ducktales, Gummi Bears, Chip n Dale.
