Why on earth did Lindsay Lindsayism win this award? I mean, her blog is like AWFUL! I've never seen writing that's more egomaniacally durst than the crap that populates her so-called-blog! GAWD! WORST!

speaking of the village voice, anyone see this:

Best proof that one big album won't make you cool forever - CARLOS D.
Behind the DJ booth, in the dancefloor, in your bathroom—you name it, and Interpol's bassist and resident ghost, CARLOS D., is there. The ubiquitous scenester is always wearing the same black outfits and has probably made out with you and your friends. -Diana Pastrana

that was lame. there is NOTHING lame about carlos D.

Nothing?

Carlos D apparently likes fat girls. And shouldn't the review say "slept with you and all your friends". Thank god I'm not one of those lucky thousands.

why does uncle loser insist on writing everything in that made-up, girly language of his? You're thirty years old, fat head, grow up.
also, lindsay's blog speaks for itself. and what it says is, i'm lame.
sarah, props for speaking out against those anti-semites popping up in other blogs' comments. some fools will never learn.

Pointing out that Israel slaughteres Palestinians isn't anti-Semetic. Quit trying to hide behind the, "You must hate Jews, then!" schtick because it only makes you look stupid and you automatically lose all credibility. You are not a victim.

Ironic that some fucking moron (who can't spell "anti-Semitic") would post bullshbit about Israel "slaughtering" Palestinians at the same time that Palestinian/Islamic terrorists were murdering vacationing Israelis and Egyptian workers in the Sinai by blowing up their hotels. Israel is forced to kill in order to maintain their existence and their security. Palestinians kill because they won't accept the idea of Israel being a Jewish state, and all they know is murder and terrorism. Wake up and smell the coffe.

rather, wake up and smell the "coffee", you fucking terrorist sympathizer.

"Palestinian/Islamic terrorists were murdering vacationing Israelis and Egyptian workers in the Sinai by blowing up their hotels."

Funny how you link Palestinians with Islam. If you knew anything but tired stereotypes you'd know that about 45% of Palestinians are Christians.

Anonymous said...

maybe so, but the palestinians who like to blow up jews tend to be muslims from islamic groups like hamas.

Actually, as of this moment, the use of the word Islamic in this case may not be irrelevant since it is not known who exactly carried out the bombing. It may not have been by a Palestinian group at all. Israel recently struck at Islamic Jihad and they threatened retaliation. Since the death of Georges Habash, we haven't seen many Christians take an active role in terrorism in the area. In all the suicide bombings that have occured, I think a total of one was carried out by a Christian and Christians have had a limited role in the Second Intifadah (Hamas and Al-Aqsa aren't Christian groups, though Fatah -- which Al-Aqsa is affliated with -- is SUPPOSED to be secular).

And, as for your figures on the Muslim/Christian split, Christians make up only 2% of Palestinians on the West Bank. Even if you were to factor in the Christians living in pre-67 Israel, it's not that much more, with a majority of the Christians living in the area live in the "Christian Triangle" near Nazareth, outside the "occupied territories". A large portion of them have taken Israeli citizenship and, despite a simultaneous sense of Arab/Palestinian nationalism (Land Day, anyone?), rarely have any Israeli Arab citizens participated in bombings.

On a side note, why has no one mentioned that King Hussein killed 10,000 - 20,000 Palestinians in Black September 1970, a number far larger than Israel has. Yet King Hussein was treated as a peace maker. Was it because he had a pretty wife and elegant tastes? And what of Assad's murder of 10,000 Arabs in neighboring Syria several years ago? Why has the outrage been so one-sided?

Just out of curiousity, I was wondering what you think Israel's population is, what you think the world's Jewish population is, and what you think Israel's comparative size is. I have been talking to a couple of organizations about conducting a survey of college-aged and 20-somethings regarding their perceived view of the Middle East and anti-Israel bias. My theory is that the more they think Israel's population and size are when compared to reality, the more anti-Israel they are. And, the more Jews they think are in the world than reality, the more anti-Semitic they are.

Go Brother Lawrence! (But you are a Republican, so I will have to check your facts. Hee.)

Congrats to Lindsay on her new title. Don't listen to the haters, you're the best.

I read in the book Under the Banner of Heaven that there more Mormans in the world (yep, world) than Jews. Can that possibly be true?

Lawrence said...

You may be on to something... I'm trying to remember now if Georges Habash died yet or if he's still sick. I thought he kicked it recently.

As for the stats there are about 14 million Jews -- 0.2% of the world's population. For comaprison, there are 1.1 BILLION Muslims and 1.9 BILLION Christians. As well, there are more Sikhs (19 million) and more Texans (22 million) as well as more Californians (35 million), Floridians (17 million), and New Yorkers (19 million), though I'm sure you're doing a lot of double counting with Floridians and New Yorkers.

However, there may be only 11 million Mormons worldwide, though one estimate is that they are projected to increase to 265 million by 2080. Meanwhile, the Jewish population has only doubled in the last 2,000 years.
