SING TO ME IN FRENCH
Are you fucking kidding me with this Maximo Park video for "Graffiti"? Chances are the director of this video will never see this (but the director of the interpol video with the puppet did, so who knows)... but incase he/she does... THANK YOU FOR FOCUSING ON THE KEYBOARDIST! The rest of the members are fantastic as well, but there's an undeniable magnetism to the keyboard player. He's totally sexy. He looks like a mixture of Brett from Suede and Alex from Franz Ferdinand, and hs this sickly gorgeous look about him throughout... even when he's doing potentially ridiculous thins. I've watched this video about 30 times in a row just now (or so it feels like) and i can't stop staring at the boy -- and the song is one of my favorites from the album with it's joy division bridge. So good. I think part of the reason i can't keep my eyes off the keyboard player has something to do with when Karen and I djed their after party and he and a female friend took over the floor and were the most adorable dancers I'd ever seen. I nearly started crying watching them dance around, not caring about anyone else at the club who might see them and laugh at their moves. The two were staring so happily at each other, spinning around, and looking like young lust. at one point the girl lifted the boy up into the air and spun him around as he bent over and kissed her. it was the sweetest and most adorable thing I'd ever seen -- almost as if out of the part of the movie when the two characters realize that they're in love and embrace for the first time -- and i never wanted it to end.

WAIT, WHAT'S YOUR NAME AGAIN?
I've had these boys in my life lately that have been spending nearly every waking hour of their lives in my apartment, sitting on my couch, sleeping on my floor, eating the last of my roommates' food. They come out with me everywhere, they make me laugh, they make me smile, they make sure I look cute when I leave the house and they make sure that we tivo all the best shows.
This situation has been going on for about a month, if not more, and I amazingly don't have a name for these boys. My harem? The Boyfriends II? The Boytoys? Boytoy Jordan? Boytoy Brandon? Boytoy Josh? Boytoy Brian? Boytoy Geordan? Boytoy Ryan? I can't figure it out. I also have girls over ... would they be Boytoy Karen? Boytoy Leigh? Boytoy Ellen? Do I have a pussy posse?
Anyway, Jordan and I were watching the Harem's new favorite show, Blowout, when he came up with the genius idea for a drinking game:
Everytime Johnathan says his name: Johnathan, you have to take a shot.

AND THE DEVIL IS SIX
I started a new job the other week (in addition to my label and book... something about idle hands and the devil or something... must stay busy) and have been listening to the free radio broadcast that XFM.co.uk offers up. It's so good. Right now i'm listening to the Pixies and earlier there was a Muse song and before then was Nivana... it's the best radio station that Karen has ever turned me on to.
Check out photos from fashion shows during Paris' Fashion Week.
I'm ashamed of my score of 75% on this quiz of who's a jew.
Also, the Tarts of Plezza are DJing on monday at a super club called NA in the city. We really want to bring a big crowd down there cause there's an OPEN BAR from 10-11pm. So if you, or anyone you know, wants to come down, please email me so i can make sure you're all sorted: sarahlewitinn@gmail.com

ANOTHER SONG ABOUT TONY?!
I loved all the singles from Gwen Stefani's album... save for the song "Cool" until I saw the video for it which featured quite possibly the hottest dude I've ever seen in my life. I'm trying to find out his name and a photo. There's something in the video for everyone... Gwen went brunette to portray her younger self and looks amazing. She actually looks about 10-15 years younger as a brunette. But fuck it, check out the video for the dude. He is stunning.

HORAY FOR THE WEEKEND!
I just wanna say that the overwhelmingly positive response to the last post was really great. Having friends and readers tell me (in person, IM or email) that they were inspired to get tested as a result was insanely rewarding and I hope everyone's results are as good as mine, and if they're not, that's ok. Thanks to improvements in medicine and education on the virus, people have been able to live incredibly long and full lives. Some people can even live healthy without medication. Two years ago I was hailing a cab on the LES when a woman approached me asking if I was going uptown on the east side, and if so, could she share my cab since none were coming by for whatever reason. I told her sure and once in the cab, she told me about herself and how, for the past 22 years, she had been HIV+. She said she never took any meds and never passed the virus to her husband (whom died a few years earlier from Hepatitis C). The virus affects people differently, and so doctors often had her come in to do blood work so they could discover how come she was alright. Hopefully, one day soon, HIV/AIDS will just be a thing of the past, or something that people don't have to be so scary about. HIV is no longer a death sentance.
That said...
IT'S THE WEEKEND!
Tonight I'm DJing at Orchard Bar like I do on every friday night. My co-Tart is sadly in Los Angeles for work, so it'll be me... and some possibly wonderfully surprise guest DJs. Come down and show your support, please.
Also, tomorrow night I'm going to be DJ at the Delancey for a really great show:
The Living Things
They're like the Stooges meets BRMC. Definitely worth checking out.

I'M A NEGATIVE CREEP
This blog is about to get INSANELY personal, but i feel like it's necessary, in hopes of leading by example...
After the infamous Family Guy episode from two weeks back where they made light of HIV and AIDS, I decided to conduct an informal survey to see how many people I know have been tested for HIV. The results: not that many. Of the people I know who have been tested, they are people who get regularly tested as part of their yearly physical, and have tested negative.
I had never been tested for HIV becuase:
1. Those who know me and my sex life (or rather, lack-there-of), know that I have nothing to worry about.
2. I statistically fall into a category of people that have a low HIV rate (white, upper middle class, non IV drug user... this is according to statistics, not personal assumption).
3. I am a hypocondriac.
4. Despite this, I was scared.
But when I went to have a phyiscal on monday and the routine question "Would you like to be tested for HIV" came up, I decided that if I had nothing to worry about, then I should just get it done. If I'm going to be so bold as to be shocked when friends say that they've never been tested, then I shouldn't be a hypocrite and do it as well.
Well, I did it. And it was easier than I thought it would be. I was open about it with all my friends, telling them when I saw them "Hey! how are you! Guess what, i got an HIV test today!" I pray that my ability to have ease with the situation will help others I know realize that it's not so scary. When my doctor called to let me know that I was clear and healthy, I texted a bunch of my friends and told them the good news. Many of them replied with "Duh, you had nothing to worry about!" Others said "Wow, you're so brave. I'm too scared."
When I told a friend that I planned on blogging about taking an HIV test, she begged me to reconsider, saying that the people who read my blog are far too critical. She's right, my readers are often critical. But also, my readers are much like my friends (and previously myself) and possibly scared to face reality. If ONE person reads this and decides to get tested, then all the flaming this post could recieved will be worth it.

BULLET WITH BUTTERFLY THINGS
Rob sent me a really interesting link from Yahoo! today:
The article goes on to say that they don't know which former members of the band have agreed to to join Billy, so I texted James Iha and I'm waiting to hear back to find out if he'sone of them. Uh... watch this space, i guess.
What's Rob's take on the situation: "billy seems like that one friend you have that always bounces between relationships and keeps saying they're in love and then changes their mind a week later."
If this does happen, I wouldn't be surprised if Mikey Way suffers from a mysterious illness that causes him to leave the MCR tour for a couple of weeks while he goes off and follows the Pumpkins around the world like he would've when we were 18 if he had the funds.

Rocker Corgan to reform Smashing Pumpkin
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Singer Billy Corgan said on Tuesday he plans to revive The Smashing Pumpkins, his Grammy-winning band which broke up in 2000 after more than a decade of blending alternative rock with the avant-garde.
In full-page advertisements in Chicago newspapers, the bald-headed Corgan said, "I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams."

PUSSY FOOT
Two weeks ago I went to my friend Brandon's and was a bit nervous before entering his apartment because he had something that I was sure could kill me: a cat. For the past 20 years, I have been insanely allergic to cats. My friend Allison got her cat Yoda when we were younger and I would play with that cat and kiss it and love it, but then I started noticing that I would get all scratchy and ill and have strange bouts of difficulty breathing. It took me a little while to figure out that I was allergic to her cat (because I had never been), and then that's when my allergies started escalating. I could no longer be in the same room as a cat, let along touch one, without my eyes swelling up and feeling like I resembled Sloth from the Goonies. So I stayed away from cats and I stayed away from friends' houses with cats if I could.
So when I went to Brandon's house, I was really hesitant to go inside. His cat greeted us with a bunch of meows (the kind where it sounded like she was saying "HEY HEY! YOU'RE HOME! HI!!!!), and quickly came over and started rubbing herself against me. Brandon's cat is so cute that I couldn't resist. I started petting it a little, then a little more, then a little more, until i was holding the cat and kissing it's head and acting a weeeee bit like Lennie from "Of Mice and Men." And then I sneezed. Once. And that was it. I couldn't believe that I wasn't totally incompacitated and spent the day in total awe that I had touched a cat... no wait, held a cat and kissed it! I've since gone back to his house a couple of times and still i'm not ill. I'm so stoked.
Scott, i'm coming over!
Anyway, the reason for that story was to share this link with you guys of people putting objects on their sleeping cats. This one is apparently on friendster.

KISS THEM FOR ME
One of my favorite staples of the Lower East Side scene during the summer is a food stand my friend once dubbed the Hipster Bar-B-Que -- when the sun comes down, he comes out to feed our alcoholed bellys with smiles and general sweetness. The man behind the Hipster BBQ is cute boy named Sam who looks like he could've been in some Long Island emo band and he's been a total Godsend on some nights, selling food at 4am to the drunks on the corner of Stanton and Ludlow. Alright, so what makes this hotdog stand better than the rest? I'll tell you: he sells hotdogs, veggie dogs, bbq chicken sandwhices, kimchi dogs, and i guess some other stuff, but I haven't tried them yet. So while I'm pulling up to the Darkroom at 2am and realize that I've forgotten to eat that day (which happens a lot these days... i'll be hanging out and at 1am I'm like "fuck, i forgot to eat today!"... I never realized my memory would ever get to be THAT bad), for $2 i can get myself a veggie dog and be stoked. If I have an extra couple of bucks I can buy my friends a dog and together we can pretend that we're at some really cool BBQ.
Anyway, last night I went to the Hipster BBQ and Sam fed me before I went into Pianos to see the Spinto Band. The band was fantastic and watching them I got really excited about the Stolen Transmission showcase on July 13. Between them, the Five O'Clock Heroes, and Nightmare of You, I'm going to have one fucking amazing show going on. I'd love to make the show free, but I need to pay the bands, so I think I'm going to charge as LITTLE as I possibly can, unless I can find a way to save up money and pay the bands out of my pocket, which would be considered "bad business practices" but, uh... I never went to business school so I can plead ignorance.
So back to the Spinto Band... the group is absolutely adorable in a little brother kind of way. They look like, and probably are, a bunch of college kids. They don't dress particularly cool or have fancy haircuts or wear make-up and that's fine with me. On stage they look like they're having a great time, swaying and dancing from side to side like they were playing their favorite supergrass covers and imagined that that's how Gaz would dance. People have been comparing them to the Arcade Fire a lot, and I can see that in the way the singer sings a lot like David Byrne and how their songs aren't typical. Anyway, if you're in NYC on July 13 you can see them for yourself.
After the Spinto Band I went to Misshapes cause that's what one does on a Saturday Night. Paul from Franz Ferdinand and his wife Esther were booked to DJ so I was excited cause I've never heard them DJ before, and not only that, but Barry from Scotland was in town as well to do a story for the NME about Franz and so he was at Misshapes. I haven't seen Barry in ages, not since he kept on cornering Brandon Flowers at the Darkroom a bunch of months ago to tell him that he loved him. That's why I love Barry. He's very scottish. Very sincere and warm.
Paul and Esther started DJing quite late, I think, because when I got up to the dance floor at around four, they were there DJing songs like "I Like to Move It" without a shred of irony and I booty danced around with the trouble twins, Mike and the Captain until I realized that I should go home, which I did a half hour later. The thing I love most about Misshapes is the lounge area downstairs. Last night I kept on referring to it as the old people section cause it's where me and my friends tend to gravitate to during the course of the evening, and most of my friend are over 23. Most of Misshapes is under that, which is why i love it. 3 or 4 people were wearing Bauhaus t-shirts, including my brother, and I started bumming out that I didnt wear mine. My favorite shirt of the night though, belonged to Nick Manske. It was a white shirt with a sad face drawn in marker with "I Love You" written underneath. Nick is absolutely adorable, so he can pretty much pull off anything like suspenders and look cool.
Anyway, this post is going no where so i'm going to go.
Signing Off. This is General Disarray.

SAVE SOME FACE
While I was on the road with the Killers they showed me their video for "Smile Like You Mean It" which caused me to squeal and squeeze Brandon's legs with excitement as he was standing next to me. He looks so fucking adorable in it, and while that song initially wasn't one of my favorites, after seeing the video I got a whole new appreciation for the song and couldn't stop singing it.
You can watch it HERE.

A few people have been asking me how I made that huge poster, which you can see a better view of in this photo:

mmmm... fries.
Anyway, the process is called Rasturbation. Click on the word Rasturbation to go to the link.

TIL TUESDAY
Tuesday night, I had three objectives:
1. Hang out with Jenny LSQ.
2. Go to the West Village to see Tracey Pepper.
3. DJ at the Interpol afterparty.
So I was sitting in my apartment, tidying up, when Rob Hitt starting IMing me saying he was with Mikey, Jeanna, and Seva and that they wanted to hang out. So I invited them to come over cause I really wanted to see Mikey since I don't get to see him so often since he's always on tour, and I love Jeanna and NEVER see her, Seva is pretty to look at and nice, and Rob is unreal to be around, plus I knew that Jenny wouldn't mind and I let them know that I would have to split by 9:30 to get drinks with TP. I was stoked.
The following photos were taken by Seva. He's in a band called Like Yesterday and they're Like, Great.
This is Rob and Mikey outside my apartment. The colorful gates go around a grade school playground by my building, which also used to be a school:

It was hot as fuck outside, so I think that's why Rob's pants are cuffed, unless he's attempting to start a new fashion trend, which is entirely possible. I assume that Bayside is an emo band. Mikey is such a fashionista. His sunglasses are perscription Chanel (which caused Lindsay to jokingly say "now you cant make fun of me for having exboyfriends who wear sunglasses indoors!" ... "they're perscription and he doesnt have his regular glasses with him"... "D'Oh!!!"), I like Misfits sneakers and his Thursday shirt that is an homage to Joy Division... which if you look at the poster above my head, you will see that I'm a big Joy Division fan.

The puzzled look on my face is due to Rob. I love Rob. I want to marry Rob one day so I can grow old with him since I think he'll entertain me forever with his personality. His personality is identical to Larry David's from Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's slightly unbelievable and incredibly amazing. His personality is the opposite of mine, and I fucking adore it. For instance, when I IM him at 2 am to see if he's out, he sometimes replies with "I can't, I'm sorting out the finances of my label, making sure all the bands get the proper amount of royalties..." He likes math, so I can only assume that this sort of is a fun night for him. I like his fashion mullet.
At the point the above photo was taken, Jenny LSQ had come over and BrandonR called and I told him to come over. Brandon, Jenny, and myself had been in stitches for about 30 minutes because of the shit Rob was saying. Brandon thinks that Rob should have his own reality show, and I agreed, so I started eyeing my room for a place to put a hidden camera to capture Rob's personality.
Brandon, Mikey and Jeanna had to peace, so the rest of us watched TiVo'ed episodes of the Family Guy when the doorbell rang and standing there were our new neighbors. Not wanting to be a couple of Goons, we invited them in and showed them the apartment. Brandon was bummed out that he missed meeting my new neighbors.
Unfortunately, because my schedule got offset by our surprise guests, I had to skip out on going to the west village for TP's drinks. This bummed me out since I didn't try to get tickets to the Interpol show in favor of seeing her.
Ah well.
So then Brandon came back over with his friend Brooke and Josh stopped by as well.

It's so fucking cute how the boys are crossing their legs. And look at Brandon's pink shirt! Pink is the new cute boy's shirt. Also: Holes in jeans are SO IN. Josh loves fashion. He's got a Chanel ring AND tattoo, and I saw the scarf he's wearing on the waist of some starlet, but I can't remember whom. The boys i know LOVE Chanel more than all the girls i know combined. Also, all the boys on that couch are so cute that i want to punch their faces in and throw them out the window or in the microwave. I would eat them, but they're so skinny that I'd be hungry afterwards.
Seva went to meet up with Mark and Dennis at Happy Endings and came back shortly after with the boys and a couple of their lady friends.

Mark is really sweet and has this incredibly raspy, manly voice and wears eyeliner. I like having him around and Karen and I plan on recording a song with him. If you look at my table you might see a red can of Liquid Cereal in Fruit Flavors. I got a can of Liquid Cereal the first (well, technically the second) time I ever met Josh. I went to his office which he shares with his brother's manager to hear his brother's album. Apparently they got sent a couple of cases of these cans of gross and so Josh gave me a can. I thought he was really weird when I met him. He still drinks that shit and I tried it once, and basically it's like the milk left at the bottom of a cereal bowl after you've eaten cereal.
Also on the table is a rough draft copy of my new book. It's really small and pocket sized, like me. When the boys saw it they did immitations of me turning the pages of a real sized book, which required both hands and running from side to side. I am STOKED on my book. It looks great. Next to my book is a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. This is the best BBQ sauce I've ever had. Rob liked it so much that he emailed himself the info about the BBQ sauce so he could by it himself. It's THAT good. Get it now, it's perfect for BBQs. Also, you might notice the champagne flutes with some brown liquid in them. I couldnt find shot glasses (cause nobody in my house does shots ... ever), so i had to put shots in those glasses. So klassy.
You might notice the police line up thing behind Mark's head. I put that up a couple of years ago and used to make people take lineup photos whenever they came over. Then i lost all my photos and got so upset that I stopped taking photos... plus my camera was stolen, so that made it impossible.
Seva liked it and took a photo of me and Dennis lined up. Dennis is really tall and I'm not. I'm shocked Seva was able to get us in the same frame. Please ignore my bad hair.

We found this to be really funny.

After these photos were taken we all headed over to La Caverna where, to my surprise, my friend John was there with some mutual friends! John sings in Vega4, which is Bruce's band. I love Bruce so much. He's like a ball of wonderful wrapped in marshmellows. Vega4's songs have been playing on OnDemand and the commercial for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I'm stoked to see things working out for them, and I was so stoked to see John. We tried so many times to meet up, and finally it happened by accident. John was so sweet to me even though the last time I met him I might've been a bit looney. Infact, this time i saw him I might've been a bit wacky and drunk.
Patrick also came with his youth group. We were drunk and danced to songs and just kept on saying "wow, i'm so drunk!" over and over again and I kept on giving Patrick drink tickets. He also has a fashion mullet. I saw his band last night and they were great and dreamy. Marc Spitz thinks they sound like Catherine Wheel. After their show, Lizzy asked Patrick how he was doing and he started singing "I've got AIDS, not HIV but full blown AIDS." I love imposing the Family Guy onto others.
Anyway, the interpol afterparty was a blast, but the times leading up to that were the best part. My apartment is the new black.

GOD BLESS FOX TELEVISION
I can't believe I didn't write about this sooner: Did anyone see Family Guy on Sunday? Holy Shit... how the fuck do they get away with this shit like last week's episode? Totally unreal.
Now you may be wondering to yourself, what was so unreal about it, Sarah?
When trying to prove a point that he's good at delivering bad news, there's a flashback of Peter in a barber shop quartet singing the following:
You have AIDS
(Yes, you have AIDS)
I hate to tell you boy, that you have AIDS
(You've got the AIDS)
You may have caught it when you stuck that filthy needle in here.
(Or maybe all the unprotective sex that you hear)
It isn't clear.
(But what we're certain of is...)
You have AIDS
(Yes, you have AIDS)
Not HIV but full blown AIDS!
Be sure that you see, that this is not HIV
But full blown AIDS!
Not HIV but
Full blown AIDS!
I'm really sorry, I wish it were something less serious.
But it's AIDS!
You've got the AIDS!

I found out that Karen reads my blog this morning when she called me up to tell me that the song I was asking about a few posts ago was Andreas Johnson's "Glorious". Ah-ha! I remember seeing the video when I was in London and it turns out she was obsessed with the song, and now that I think of it, I think i might've been as well for a minute.
You can hear it for yourself HERE.
Also, Trent the Pink posted an amazing link of a living iPod ad... the guy dancing reminds me of my Brother Lawrence when he dances. Watch it HERE.

THIS BED IS ON FIRE
I've been so knee deep in book stuff that I really havent been able to participate in my favorite activity of listening to, and finding, new bands to worship. The book was finally turned two tuesdays ago, and then the following monday i got kidnapped by killers, and then i'm here at this tuesday. Finally able to get back my footing and start listening to all the new bands I've been meaning to hear.
When I was in London in November of 2003 or maybe even 2002, my friend Imran took me to see Dogs Die In Hot Cars at the ULU. We got there early and there werent that many people there, so we got to see their opening band Duke Spirit, which was lead by a rediculously gorgeous blond girl with long limbs and even longer hair. She looked like a Goddess and they sounded like a Manc version of the Kills fronted by PJ Harvey. I fell in love, but had no money to buy anything, or maybe they didnt have anything to sell. I joined their mailing list and got emails about what they were up to and stuff. My buddy Peter G (aka the Husky Gentleman), went to London in February and brought back a copy of their EP (which i still have and FULLY plan on returning). He lent it to me and I listened to it over and over again while i was in Miami playing designated driver. Everyone loved it and it made things sort of delightfully calm for me. Go to their site and you can hear songs and watch videos.
Another new band that's been on my mind is Youth Group. My friend Patrick from Australia (whom you might remember if you've been reading this blog from the start) used to be in that band the Vines (he actually started it with Craig way back when), and while the Vines were on hiatus he decided to start playing with this band that his friends were in. He ended up falling in love with the guys and the music and decided to continue on with them rather than the band that had seen the covers of both spin and rolling stone. When I heard that he joined a band called Youth Group, the only thing I could think of was how WONDERFUL that name was. It inspired the band name i made up for my post punk band that will never exist: Youth Movement. So anyway, I finally got a cd in the mail from Epitaph a few months ago cause that's the label they signed with... which surprised me the moment i listened to it since the music possibly the opposite of what I thought i'd hear from that label (but then again, i'm not really familiar with their lineup apart from a few artists, so i could be wrong). Instead, what I heard was something closer to the Longpigs or James than say The Refused or even the Vines. I was pretty stoked on it.
I remember IMing with my other girlfriends who are friends with Patrick and had also recieved their record. We were all blown away by how good they were. It was such a delightful surprise, and it also meant that we might be able to see Patrick again, after figuring he'd be exiled to OZ with the vines.
So the other day I'm waking up and I get a text from Patrick saying that he's in town for a bit doing shows and wants to hang out. We make plans and I finally get to see him on friday after he came by the Darkroom for the party that the Tarts of Pleasure were hosting. Naturally, the Tarts were late, so Patrick and I arranged to meet on a street corner on the way from my apt to the Darkroom (which was also very close to the Delancey which is where he was palying). Josh and I were walking from my house to meet up with Patrick, all the while I'm looking around for him and not seeing anyone with my giant aliEn eyes. Finally, this really good looking, fit young man with a fashionable haircut waves me down.
Holy shit, it was Patrick, looking more amazing than I've ever seen him. Totally fit and healthy looking, and most of all happy. He just looked simply happy, which made me totally estatic. For as long as I've known him he's been somewhat miserable, much like Morrissey (actually, one of my favorite memories in life was of listening to the Smiths with Patrick once when we were both wasted off our tits and falling asleep while sitting up as "Asleep" started playing). But Saturday night on Rivington street, he looked refreshed, happy and healthy. Robust even. We chatted for a bit and he came by the Darkroom after his band's set. He told me that his band was playing again on Sunday, so we made plans to get bunch the next day and drank and danced the night away til we were kicked out. Nick Manske told me about some catered BBQ happening sunday afternoon in Madison Sq Park so we ventured over there ... me not really planning out that that they wouldn't have vegetarian BBQ for folks like me. But anyway, the BBQ was totally fucking cool, and I sort of just wanted to write about that. It was like authentic Austin, and next time it happens, hopefully the dashing Nick will alert me again so i can post it here.
After dropping Patrick off I met up with Karen at her apartment, but not before running into both Sune and my friend Will Scott from high school (whom, in my opinion was the coolest motherfucker in that building), with in a block or two of each other (mind you, the night before while standing outside of the Darkroom and on my way there, I saw more people that I haven't seen in ages in a matter of five minutes, totally surreal). I went to Karen's. We decided on an idea for a Tarts of Pleasure slogan "We Are the Rock" (not like "rock'n'roll" but as in... we've got foundation), and discussed our feud with the Queenz of Noise that the NME decided to start, which is fucking amazing. I convinced Jordan Silver to come over, and then brainwashed the two of them into going with me to see "Mr. And Mrs. Smith". We searched for Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Peppers and went to the movies, but not before i got totally stoked to see Real World's original cast member, Eric Nies (sp?). I could not hide my smile that my middle school self was pushing out with all her force. Needless to say, neither Jordan nor Karen were that into the movie, but i literally swooned at parts and Jordan made fun of me.
Anyway, i digress. I met up with my friend Cedric from LA and his bandmate Zack at Bar 13 for Shout! to see Youth Group. They were tighter than I remember the Vines ever being, and every song made me feel like I was living in Donnie Darko, if it took place in my life and I could soundtrack it, and one of the bands on the soundtrack sounded like James. The disco lights swirling around my blissfully buzzed head as the tambourine of "Skelaton Jar" (which you can hear on their site) starts playing and forcing me to see the love of my life, our life together, our kids, our happiness, our fights, our giant rabbit standing in the bathroom with a busted eye, us making up and growing old and dying. It was a pretty intense 3 minutes.
Afterwards we chilled out on the roof of Bar 13 and decided to head out else where the other girls who had come to meet up (Karen, Jenny, and Mahsa) went to the Darkroom to meet up with Simon White, and I took the mens to the "gay morrissey party" as someone called it. Me and the sausage party (which now was: patrick and youth group, cedric and zack, and some other dudes) danced the night away DESPITE some of them saying they weren't going to dance. You can't stick a bunch of slightly effeminate dudes in a sexy bar with a DJ playing good Moz/Smiths song after another and expect them NOT TO GET DRUNK AND DANCE AS IF THE ROOM IS FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH SEXY YOUNG GIRLS. It was completely DELIGHTFUL and fun. I was bummed when I had to leave, but the Bat Signal got raised and I had to go back to being a crimefighting goth of gotham. Or not.
Youth Group is playing wednesday night at Mercury Lounge in NYC at 9:30pm. I urge, urge, urge you to go to this show.
Alright! I'm getting back to posting mundane bullshit on this blog again! horay! back to the old self.

I LOVE THE ROMANCE OF CRIME
Someone mentioned the Libertines in the comment section, and they're actually a band that has been coming up a lot in my life in the past month. Josh has become obsessed with Pete Doherty and I made Brandon a copy of some songs from their albums and he's been dancing around in his apt listening to them. Almost every night i listen to "Can't Stand Me Now" cause it reminds me of a night that is both beautiful and heartbreaking. It's my thoughts thrown onto music. I remember when I heard this song for the umpteenth time, but finally ACTUALLY heard it was when i was lying in bed asleep and the song came on mtv2 since i left the TV on. The opening guitar sound must've penetrated my snoozing mind in a way that allowed me to hear the lyrics for real and the moment they start singing "i know you lie, i know you lie, i'm still in love with you" i started feeling like someone was singing right to me, so much that when "You can't stand me now" started to get sung, i actually felt like that was my subconcious reply. I cried myself to sleep that night.
There's something genuinely gorgeous about the lyrics those boys write. The narrative of it all mixed with the romance of longing, even if that longing is for drugs or physical contact.
There was an article in the issue of Q Magazine with Green Day on the cover that's about the east London Crack scene. It mostly centers around the notoriously cracked out Pete Doherty who plays house parties for 15 pounds a head and uses that money for drugs. I'm a bigger fan of their first album, which i imagine, was written before the downward spiral of heroin and crack, my favorite song on the album is "What a Waster" which is about that very topic and it could almost have been written today to describe the past two years for the band. "Can't Stand Me Now," which PERFECTLY chronicles the travels of Pete and Carl Barat from their first album to their second album, is possibly my favorite Libertines song. Obvious choices, sure. But they're mine.
I remember when I was about 22 or 23, i was supposed to interview the band for my spin column. Pete was missing from the mix and I was supposed to take a photo with the entire band and chat with them for a bit. So I took a photo with the guys (which has since been lost in a file transfer mishap) sans Pete and asked one of them where he was. "probably off finding drugs" was the reply, and I thought that was a bit odd and guessed it to be a joke since I was very young and innocent then.
A few days later, I was prowling through photos on Friendster and came across a very disturbing one someone had taken of Pete as he's preparing a needle of heroin. I was utterly disturbed. Showed it to my friends in horror and disbelief, and became completely fascinated. It was such sad and hauting photo, and again, I can't remember where it's located or if I even have it, which I dont think I do. Then Blender printed a disturbing photo of Pete smoking from a crack pipe that seemed to be taken with his consent. It's just so strange and almost Verlaine & Rimbaud of him, only, I'm not sure which one he'd be. Is he the wise, yet twisted, older man who inspires? Or is he the young, devilishly clever and manipulative genius? Either way, both of them had a chemical romance. THEY had a chemical romance. They get into them and use drugs as a cover for their emotions, using them as a scape goat to see each other and a bonding tool. Eventually the drugs become their emotions. They're no longer using drugs to get closer to the one they like, but to get closer to feeling the way they like while on drugs. Anyone who has had an addiction to drinking knows this. Drug users know this. This means that one of the drug buddies can escape without notice and fix themselves up while the other just strives for that feeling that they didn't even know they were looking for.
Anyway, those are my random thoughts about the Libertines, inspired by someone talking about them.

ALL THE PRETTY FACES
For anyone that has seen the Killers on this tour might've heard their new song "All The Pretty Faces" played during sets. On tuesday night I was watching the band with Paul Banks and he turned to me saying "is this a new one? it's really good." I admire Paul's music and so does Brandon, so hearing sing the praises of the song is delightful.
You can hear it for yourself HERE
UPDATE: I put up a better version of the song thanks to someone who posted as "water".

IT'S INDIE ROCK AND ROLL FOR ME
I must apologize for my lack of updates, but it's not my fault. I was kidnapped by a band of handsome and well dressed killers wearing eyeliner masks. I was only supposed to be gone for roughly 24 hours, but found myself on tour with my favorite band (that is not Interpol, Muse or My Chemical Romance), being sneakily kidnapped from state to state.
"We'll do the interview later." Turned into "We'll do the interview after the set." Turned into "We'll do the interview after bus call." Turned into "Well do the interview tomorrow night." Night after night. I packed for a day trip, with a slight chance of overnight-age. I ended up reliving Almost Famous. Our "Tiny Dancer" was "Helena." Our Golden God was a Morman. Our nights spent with bands that blow our mind. Being treated like a sister. Being disgused as a boy. Never being treated like I was imposing.
It took me a day or two to realize that i was living out the biggest dream of my life. And when I found myself at the Marriweather Pavillion in Maryland, watching the band from the side of the stage for the 3rd time in 3 days, as Brandon called out to the audience during "All These Things That I've Done" that he wanted to see 30,000 hands in the air... and actually seeing them... I had to hold myself back from crying. I put my hands over my mouth and stared out in disbelief. A year ago they were playing Mercury Lounge and today here they were... Brandon performing like the frontman I always saw him as (like a young Morrissey), Dave and Mark looking like they're enjoying every moment of life, and Ronnie being the heart and soul. I could not believe what I saw. Backstage, in their dressing room, standing in the doorway of the side room, Brandon looked at me as if he sees his sister about to cry and throws his arms around me to give a hug. We spent the past three days trying to convince people we were twin. We managed to convince most. And now we were being plyed apart. Mark pestered me about staying on tour -- telling me that it's only 3 more days, and offering the day off as a bargaining tool, and Wyatt kisseed my head and offered whatever little amounts of money he had to make sure I get home safely, since my bank account had only $40 in it and I was walking around with a $20 for three days.
I fucking love the Killers.
I'll post details tomorrow... today I've gotta run.

HELP A BROTHER OUT
I am not in the Killers.
I am not dating any of the Killers.
I am not getting money from the Killers for talking about them on my blog.
For this reason, I was unable to get my brother tickets for their show tomorrow in central park. So he needs a pair:
he wrote: If anyone has two extra tickets for the Killers tomorrow at Central Park, please email me at lvl2@columbia.edu. Let me know what you want for them and how I can pick them up.
Thanks!
By the way, the afterparty is gonna be at Misshapes.

CUTE BAND ALERT?

Nightmare of You is playing tonight at the Delancey. I can't stress enough how good this band is. Come to see them tonight at 11pm at the Delancey.
Here's what Gurj had to say about it:
Saturday I headed to Long Island with Sarah and Tara to go to the Crazy Donkey show, a fire benefit gig with Head Automatica and Nightmare of You, who by the way are fucking amazing. I HIGHLY recommend that you listen out for these guys because from the sounds of their EP, they can only hit it big time. At first look they’re young, cute and their image screamos EMOOO but then as soon as they start playing you’re like, “Erm, hold on a minute, what the fuck?! This shit is amazing!” The lyrics hark Morrissey’s dry, sharp wit and the beats are like dance rock, with INSANELY infectious hooks.

I AM THE LUCKIEST GIRL IN ALL OF EMO LAND
Saturday at Misshapes was like a pre-Warped tour meeting spot. I will cherish this photo forever... how fucking hot does Mikey look in this photo? My girlfriends are like, drooling all over themselves over the hotness overload in every direction in this photo.

From Left to Right:
Rob Hitt from Midtown, Mikey Way from My Chemical Romance, Brandon Reilly from Nightmare of You, Sarah Lewitinn from right fucking here.
more photos can be seen here
Saturday night at Misshapes was fun as fuck. Brandon and I think someone roofied our drinks cause we went BANANAS. Mikey is a fucking trip and a half sometimes. Like, he's all shy and quiet and then he has a bit to drink and suddenly he's the the trippiest, funniest, dude to ever wear liam's haircut. We were in the backroom at misshapes when Mikey picks up a plugged in hair iron and said:
"Whoa, they have a hair iron on call here. EMERGENCY HAIR STRAIGHTENING!"

SASSY
Sassy! magazine used to have a feature called "cute band alert" that has since entered into a sort of popculture lexicon and reference point for people who grew up with the magazine.
This blog is often a smorgesbourg (sp?) of cute band alerts.
My friend Jesse is in a band called Americana and on a road trip a few months ago (taken for reasons that make me cry) I met his band's new bassist Kurt. The most notable thing about Kurt was that he was possibly one of the cutest boys I'd ever met in person. From what I can remember, he was also about 19 years old and had extensive knowledge about bands like Suicide.
So when I saw his pretty face poppingn up in blog ads all around the interweb, my little sixteen year old heart went aflutter and I decided to pay a visit to Defunker, where i was blessed with more cute photos. I guess they're selling t-shirts over there, but i'm broke as fuck, so that didn't matter. What did matter was the following:

FUCK YEAH!
Brandon from Nightmare of You came over to talk about the single I'm putting out of theirs in July and he played me a new song he wrote and I told him I would burn all his Smiths CDs if he didn't record it for the single. It's like 2 minutes long, but totally genius. I begged him to record it on a shitty tape deck or into my voice mail, to save on costs, and also, it'll give it a more sincere feel, like when he sat in my room on my guitar singing it to me and my roommate. It was something along the lines of the Libertines meets the Smiths in terms of narrative and vocal tone.
You'll get to see Nightmare of You and other bands I'm putting out on a Stolen Transmission (singles label) at a showcase at rothko on JULY 13. Performing (SO FAR, unless the other bands can make it to NYC) will be: THE SPINTO BAND, THE FIVE O'CLOCK HEROES, and NIGHTMARE OF YOU. Fuck. Wow.
I've been so wrapped up in my book for months and months that I haven't really been able to listen to new bands like I normally do. There are bands coming in and out and I'm missing them until Karen comes over because I refuse to leave my house (unless I'm DJing), and plays it for me on my little makeshift stereo. Patrick Wolf and Death From Above 1979 being prime examples of bands Karen hurled into my life. But I found the Spinto Band first, so i get extra points for that. Anyone who doesn't like the Spinto Band needs to get their soul checked.
Anyway, I'm almost done with this book. More edits. More edits. More edits. I've been getting so wrapped up in it that I have nearly ceased all contact with people. I stopped updating this blog so much. As I said before, I dont leave my house... I am really looking forward to the end of edits. I'm looking forward to going to shows that people invite me to. I'm looking forward to not waking up at 9am to work on my book and then going to bed at 4 or 5am totally exhausted from listening to song after song after song. It's all hard work, but it'll be so worth it. I'm really fucking proud of this book and to be perfectly honest, it's probably not for music aficionados, but for people starting to get into music and looking for where to start with everything. Like someone who is still in high school, or even for people who just want a really comprehensive music library of the essentials. Or even for someone who wants to know about how to start their own DJ night and shit. I'm not trying to sell the book, even thought that's what it's sounding like, i'm just pretty fucking proud of something I produced, which is rare for me.
Karen wrote about the shit we've been up to for the past week with DJing and possible feuds brewing, so go read her site for that stuff.
One thing I'll say is that we're both genuinely shocked by how fun our STOLEN TRANSMISSION party has been. There's no pretention (only slight annoyance from yours truly when people request songs ... it's like a pet peeve for all DJs, not just me, i swear), there's lots of dancing, lots of high spirits and happiness. I mean, how many parties have DJ who keep a bottle of booze at the DJ booth for anyone to take swigs of? We just want people to have a good time and make out and be happy. Fuck! Last week my friend Joe and his girlfriend got engaged not long after my party and while the Tarts of Pleasure cant take responsibility for this wonderful event, we have been asked to DJ their reception. CAN'T. FUCKING. WAIT.
Anyway, the fun continues, but with FREE SPARKS this time and an after party will be in effect for the Single Frame show at Pianos.

RED BULLSHIT
My roommate Lindsay has a feature on her blog called "Highdeas" which contains ideas she comes up with while stoned.
I decided that on the flipside of drugs, I would do a feature called "Red Bullshit," which will contain ideas I think of while on Red Bull and other uppers (coffee, ritalin, stacker2 mints, etc).
RED BULLSHIT #1:
I would like to hear a duet cover of "What's Love" by Ashanti and Fat Joe done by Ashlee Simpson and Paul Banks of Interpol.
Now, it's 3:45 pm EST. I'm definitely not the only one on a post-lunch upper... so what are some of your "Red Bullshits"?

MY COCO
Tomorrow night, Friday, NY2LON will be taking over the Bowery Ballroom and if you don't already know, stellastarr* will be headlining. This is the first show (not counting the Luna lounge show last friday) that they've played in a long time and they're going to be playing lots of their new songs. Also joining them are The Ordinary Boys whom I caught at SXSW and LOVED. They're something between the Clash and Blur. The Hong Kong are for those who love Blondie and the one song that i heard from Amusment Parks on Fire was total backpack rap.
Buy tickets at TicketWeb
And now, the important information: THE AFTERPARTY
Stolen Transmission (the party) will be hosting the afterparty with The Tarts of Pleasure DJing along with DJs Thought Sniper and Mr. Bombastic. It's open to everyone (NO LISTS!), and this week we're getting more bartenders so everyone can be served over and over again. Last week's party was too much fun. Come and party, get drunk on Manishewitz, dance to the indie dance tunes, meet someone nice. JUST HAVE FUN.

Also, there will be DVD GIVE AWAYS!: THE FLAMING LIPS, THE SEX PISTOLS AND X!

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO
May 18, 1980 -- Ian Curtis, unable to deal with the the pressures of fame and life, decides to hang himself. He was the singer of Joy Division and his influence on popular bands of today is louder than ever.
I find it hard to celebrate or mourn the loss of anyone who took their own life in such a selfish way. The man had a wife and a new born baby. Medical issues and depression probably made him feel hopeless, but he wanted to die, I can't mourn that. What I CAN do is celebrate his life, since while he was alive he created some of the most moving music I've ever listened to.
In celebration of his life, I want to announce my next venture -- which is sort of obvious by now...
I'm starting a full on record label called STOLEN TRANSMISSION.
The name was stolen from one of my favorite Joy Division songs called "Transmission"... get it? I stole the name transmission?
Anyway, I'm really excited and looking forward to helping out the bands that I love.
The singles label is still in effect. Expect releases from the following bands in the next couple of months: The Spinto Band, The Five O'Clock Heroes, Saints + Lovers, Nightmare of You, and Ley Royal Scam.

WHEN BOTH OUR JOBS COLLIDE
"Mom! Mom! Guess who's on the cover of SPIN!?"
This is the last issue I contributed to, and I think it's humanly impossible to be more proud of the cover subjects.

[Image stolen from Miss Modern Age's fotune cookie]
I'm not kidding, I started crying tears of joy when I saw them on the cover. I'm really emo at heart.
Um... sort of off topic, but did anyone see Kelly Clarkson's new video? It's got the total feel of MCR's "Helena."

THESE DUETS ARE MADE FOR WALKING
Yesterday, someone reminded me that Primal Scream's "Some Velvet Morning" is a Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood cover. So I downloaded it and noticed that Lee Hazelwood's voice reminded me of Ian McCollough's voice (later in his career ... not so much during his "Lips Like Sugar" days).
What do you think? You can download it here.
Oh, and the very beginning of the song reminds me of that ballad by the Streets.

IMPORTANT
I accidently put the wrong stamp price amount on a huge shipment of Oohlas CDS and found out that a lot, if not most, never reached their final destination -- nor the grounds of Stolen transission since a return address was ALSO missing since I was paranoid that whomever was doing some mean blog would find out where to find me. Now that I know where this person lives, i'm not worried, so return address will return to the packages. Sadly, what this means is that a shit load of Oohlas cds are hanging out at the post office and I'm unable to locate them.
If you ordered a Oohlas CD and never recieved it, please EMAIL ME to let me know so i can promptly send you a new one -- free of charge of course: sarahlewitinn@gmail.com
put in the subject line: MISSING OOHLAS CD
DO NOT POST IN THE COMMENTS SECTION CAUSE I MIGHT MISS IT
I sincerely apologize for this and will try to figure out a way to make it up to everyone. I'm SO SORRY.

MY ATTEMPT AT CREATIVE CRITICISM
It's no secret that I am a huge huge huge fan of Fuse. It's a music channel the way MTV used to be which focused more on sort of "alternative" type bands, and bands with more substance than fluff. Every week I Tivo the show called "The Dive" hoping to be exposed to new bands, and each week, I'm usually, without fail, exposed to the same bands I was previously exposed to the week before, and the week before that, and the week before that. The bands usually include:
Death Cab for Cutie
Ted Leo
Action Action
The Postal Service
Rilo Kiley
Now, I know that there's probably a reason behind this and it's probably that this program hopes to make stars by repitition. Or maybe the programmer of this show really likes Ben Gibbard's voice, like the rest of us. I appreciate what they're going for. But when you've got 30 minutes to make your statement, is it really worth it to repeat yourself? Perhaps Fuse should give this show a bigger timeslot that will allow it to better establish it's MO. I for one, would like to see more variety in the programming. You mean to tellme that those five bands are the only bands in the "indie rock scene"?
MTV2, on the other hand, has the hour long "Subterrarean" program which never fails me. Each week they have new videos from new bands and are exposing me to things I normally wouldn't have thought of giving time to for whatever reason. They also play videos I didn't know existed and have been totally on top of their game when it comes to exposing it's viewers to the "indie rock scene."
In conclusion: Fuse seems to be a music TV station that prides itself on taking chances. I would like to see "The Dive" take more chances with it's video selection.

MORE COWBELL
SNL just ended and holyshit, it was so funny that my new roommate Gurj had to run out of the room cause she was about to piss her pants.
There were two things in particular that had me in hysterics:
1. The skit with the artsy-fartsy Nuni & Nuni & Nuni. Will Farrell's character Nuni had the same hair as my friend Jordan Silver. When he came onto the screen I bursted out in laughs and screams. I couldn't believe the uncanny resemblance:

This is Jordan

This is Will Farrell playing Nuni.
2. While watching the Queens of the Stone Age's performance, Gurj and I were discussing how Josh Homme is a very cute redhead when all of a sudden on the screen pops up Will's "More Cowbell" character. This is when I had to cross my legs so I wouldn't piss. I'm not sure there's been an all around funnier SNL ever. It was like watching the Best of Will Farrell DVD but with new versions of my favorite skits. This is exactly what should've been done, and I'm glad that the fine folks at SNL recognized this.

This is Will Farrell giving up more cowbell.
Finally, The Tarts of Pleasure will be joining forces with the two girls who inpsired us to be a duo in the first place, The Queen of Noize (check out their photos, these girls are absolutely gorgeous), for a night of debauched entertainment. Not only will the two duos be DJing, but also joining us will be DJ WizKid Ryan Gentles as well as performances by The Witnesses, Johnny Lives! and some very special surprise band. Your guess as to who that band will be is as good as mine... NME and MTV2UK will be on hand, and apparently, whomever dresses like a pirate will get a drink ticket.
You can see the flyer RIGHT HERE
and CLICK HERE to hear the Queens of Noize's song "Indie Boys (Don't Deserve It)".
You can rest assured that there probably wont ever be a Tarts of Pleasure single since neither one of us can actually sing. But if we did record something, I'd want it to rip off Primal Scream's "Some Velvet Morning (featuring Kate Moss)" completely. Protools, here we come!

EVERYBODY WALK THE DINOSAUR

It's been a while since I've checked out the science section of Yahoo! and to my luck, when I finally did, I found out about a new dinosaur exhbit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The exhibit called Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils, New Discoveries, appears to focus on the new evidence that suggests that some dinos had feathers and wings and were way more birdlike than previously thought. For even the most basic of science nerd wannabes like myself, the knowledge that dinos and birds are closely related is old news, but it appears that this exhibit probably probes deeper inside this, and shows new evidence and theories. My friend Dave (who is in town to perform on monday at Lit as The Lost Weekend -- he sounds a bit like Nick Cave and surprisingly great -- and if you're from LA you might know him as Hardcore Dave from Swingers) and Brian have both already agreed to come with me to the exhibit, and if I can about 10 others it'll be like a reinactment of the class trip I took to the museum as a kiddie. I wonder if the dinosaurs will seem as big -- probably since I grew only about 4 inches since then.
Last night I went to see Army of Me and The Five O'Clock Heroes at Rothko. At first, when AOM were about to get on stage, I turned to Karen with a bit of stress in my voice and asked her "Where is everyone?" The room was a bit more empty than I had expected, but one or two songs into the set I made my way to the front of the room to watch Vintz command the stage like a young Buck(ley). When I turned around I saw a sea of people all staring up. Now, I know this is probably REALLY uncool to say, but when have I ever cared about being cool?, but there's something about AOM that reminds me of Maroon5. I don't know if it's Vintz voice or maybe the way that I'm sometimes psychic about shit (I shit you not, I am actually pretty psychic about many things - less so now than before - but I can see into the future and how things will be in like 2 years ... which would explain why i knew that the killers, interpol, franz, and my chemical romance would be huge)... anyway, i'm psychic about shit sometimes, and I look at AOM and I'm like, "fuck, in 8-12 months there will be little girls cooing in the audience with the hollister gear singing "i'm going through changes!" which to them will be about puberty.
The Five O'Clock Heroes are just getting more and more amazing with every show. They'll be opening up for the Bravery on monday, so if you're going to that show, make sure you arrive early enough to catch them. Audrey came up to me after their set and was totally delighted by how good they were saying "They're such stars!" or something to that effect, and I have to agree. For one thing, the boys obviously love each other, and you can sense that brotherhood on stage. Not that that matters at all, but there's something about that sort of fraternizing that pulls you in while you're watching. As if they're love for each other is infectious and if you're having a shitty day and see it, suddenly you sort of feel like someone you dont know could love you too. Then there's obviously the songs. As I venture out into this new chapter of my life where I'm starting a label, I'm becoming more and more aware of the ability for a band to write a good song. Now, there are bands that are fucking amazing and don't necessarily have songs as much as they have pieces of music -- like Sigur Ros or even Interpol and Arcade Fire simply because they break the rules of the basic "verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus/etc," which, if you're those bands, doesn't matter because your music compositions are so moving that giving it that structure would only fuck with what is already perfect -- but then there are bands that don't have songs, and they don't have pieces of music. They could try to go with the structure, but sometimes there's something missing. A lack of catchiness, something that doesn't stick in your heads, too much of nothing... you all probably know what I'm talking about cause you have all probably gone to see your friend's band play and couldn't sing a single song of theirs 5 minutes after the show. Then you also have the bands that are too good at doing that song structure thing that they lose all sense of personality, feeling and emotion in their songs. The compositions become steril in their awareness and everything is lost. The Five O'Clock Heroes -- for as much as I've resisted thinking so because they're my friend's band and I am usually hypercritical of my friend's bands because I fear my love for my friends will over shadow their acutal ability -- write good songs. They write the songs that you remember when you don't even realize you remember them. Quotes from lyrics pop into your head as you're typing IMs. Melodies and beats dictate your steps as you're strolling down the street. A song of theirs pops up on your itunes randomly and you're like "i love this song! who is this?" and you realize it's the Heroes.
I have two friends who front rock bands that you will know the songs of very soon.
In keeping with the the "Where is everyone?" tradition of the night... When Karen and I got to Orchard Bar with Ellen the Model (after stopping at a bakery to pick up a lamb shaped cake with a protruding cigarette for Gurj's birthday), I asked Karen that same question. She reminded me that it was only a bit passed 12 and that the crowd usually comes at around 1am. So, as Jamiroquai would say, there's nothing left for us to do but dance. Which i did 90's flygirl style. Now, I could only imagine that patrons of the bar were texting thier friends saying "Yo, some girl is dancing like all 'In Living Color' up in this piece. get down here!" cause a half hour later the club was packed, people were dancing and have fun. I'm so stoked that our party is fun, cause that's all we want it to be. We want everyone who wants to be there to be there and on the dance floor and sweating and drinking. I even brought a bottle of Manishwitz Conocord Grape Wine (Synoguage style) for everyone to share and drink and be merry. Next week I'll bring a bigger bottle and maybe two flavors. I don't think this wine even gets you drunk as much as it tastes awesome. DELICIOUSLY AWESOME.

THE SONGS THAT MADE YOU CRY AND THE SONGS THAT SAVED YOUR LIFE
First things first:
1. STOLEN TRANSMISSION Friday night will be a fucking amazing party. There are no lists. The only thing you need to get in is an ID saying that you're over 21.
2. It will be an after party for The Five O'Clock Heroes and Army of Me show at Rothko. The bands are playing at 10:30 and 9:30 respectively.
3. It will be Gurj's birthday party.
4. If you are in the OC, the Oohlas and Piebald are playing together at Chain Reaction. check out their poster.
I guess I didn't do the best job in proving my existance (or non-death). I didn't update the blog, i didn't really return emails, I didn't really sign onto AIM, I didn't go out... I just woke up. I just went to bed. I just woke up again and opened my eyes long enough to be tired enough to take a nap. Chronic fatigue, an odd symptom for me. When I was in London, all I wanted to do was sleep. Sleep and watch "Curb Your Enthusiasm." I went to Coachella and managed to have enough energy to stay awake, but when a bed was presented in front of me, nothing could pull me away -- not even the insistant spooning of a drummer whose face I used to stroke on my computer screen years before (scarily proving to myself that I can resist the advances of musicians to the point where I'm slightly off put by them... which is a huge change from how i used to be ... which was fantacizing about having a rockstar boyfriend... no more. i was so paranoid about being precieved as a groupie that the moment a boy tells me that he's in a band, i'm like, ugh... next.) But he was hot, this drummer. Rediculously hot. Any girl that manages to snag him is lucky. He's the vision of beauty and perfection and the epitome of what I wanted the boys i date to look like in 2003. Alas, it's 2005, and I have no idea what my type is anymore. Just no instruments, please.
I imagine that a Coachella update is due. But it seems like it was so long ago that there's nothing that can be said that hasn't already been uttered by every other blogger in the continental usa. Horah! The bands were great! The weather was amazing! I saw God during the arcade fire's set! I took 93 ecstasy pills through out the day (this is a lie) and whoa! I really can't divulge anything different from my experience that wouldn't:
1. seem show-off-y
2. appear to name drop
3. get me in trouble
(there i am on the left with ollie and kris federline) I will say that I danced with my eyes closed during New Order as a little kid of 2 or 3 years old did the same a couple feet away. Kris took a photo and showed it to Ollie Oohlas for a possible cover of their album. I was blown away by Autolux, which surprised me. Ollie had given me their cd a while ago and i was ehhh about it, but after watching them live, I can safely say that I think they're amazing. I thought for the longest time that it was the girl singing all the songs on the album and thought "fuck, the girl sounds like a boy trying to sound like a girl trying to sound like a boy." ... How delighted was i to find out that a dude was singing most of the time. The girl was an amazing drummer though, and sang one song, which I loved. I felt so lucky to be able to spend the entire day with Ollie and Kris. I managed to introduce Kris to everyone as Kris Federline (he's like an uncanny better looking version of him), and I was so excited to introduce Ollie to people as "Ollie from the Oohlas" and see them get excited. Ollie and Kris were the two most perfect people to be with because I love them and we all love the same music, and Kris bank rolled the booze.
the following text will be in white. if you want to read it, highlight the area that you think would include the text. this is so i dont appear to be 1. show-off-y, 2. name drop.
OK, so one of the biggest highlights came as i was watching Bauhaus. I left Karen behind at the Ravonettes' trailer to watch Bauhaus and as I was standing there while Peter Murphy was being lowered down by his ankles a la a bat, I was like "fuck, i wish i wasnt alone watching this and had a friend here with me," when at that moment, NIGEL FUCKING GODRICH and my friend Jill came up to me. Jill is an amazing person who informed me earlier that day (as i lay on the grass with her and Nigel spying on Michael Pitt and Justin Timberlake) that our mutual friend Cedric was gonna have a baby! Anyway, Nigel produced one of the greatest albums in the history of mankind and it's been my fucking desire to meet him for ages. It turns out that he's a huge Bauhaus fan and we totally dorked out together over the show. At every moment i wanted to grab him by the Radiohead sweatshirt he was wearing, shake him, and be like "YOUR PRODUCTION ON THAT ALBUM MADE ME WANT TO BE A BETTER PERSON. IT MADE ME WANT TO GET INTO THIS WHOLE MUSIC BULLSHIT. IT MADE ME REALIZE HOW NEW MUSIC CAN STILL MEAN SOMETHING." I didn't. I just ooohed and aaaahed with him about Bauhaus and told him to check out their side projects of Love and Rockets and Tones on Tail. Apparently those two bands never really did anything overseas.
That night I went home with Karen and Elhaam. We were driven home by Nick Jago, whom is a little jumping bean of fun. We went back to the condo Karen and El were sharing with 39 other people (including the Amazing Peter, the gorgous girl-crush of mine Ali, and Nora) and I passed out. While passed out, I managed to miss the appearance of Carlos, Jenny Pens, Jason Bar-on, and Jesse Camp (?! ollie's neighbor!). Jenny stuck a finger in karen's nose to wake her up. Didn't work. I was sharing a twin bed with Karen and managed to sleep through it too, as did everyone else in the room I think. The next morning Nicola cooked everyone up some pancakes, which I ate, forgetting the Passover situation which plagued my vacation. Imagine my guilt when my mom called me to delightfully remind me that Passover would be over that night. "Right mom... thanks." I recieved that call (my ringtone was kasabian's "club foot"... and I had been talking to them moment earlier... sadly they missed that) just after I spotted shannon sossman at the vip desk in teh vip parking (where karen and i were waiting for gang of four for work reasons). I noticed her wearing a pin on her skirt that resembled Wham! I asked her if it was the band, she said no, and I told her "you'll always be george michael to me." Mind you, i forgot this until karen retold the story to me after i read something i forgot in her blog. My memory is THAT bad. I spent all of sunday in a partiuclar daze. I met up with my buddy Reilly who is in Thrice. Reilly and I know each other from the internet. we used to post on the same message board (the same one i know ollie and kris from ... we're all nerds), and so the four of us had a lovely nerd meeting. Funny place to meet your internerd friends -- in the VIP section of coachella after you've just played a set. nerd climax explosion.
I spent the next day with Jason Productshop, Halified, and Adam Productshop and some new friends (Vicki, Nancy, Collage) at the condo we rented for the weekend. The morning was spent in the pool, floating around aimlessly, swimming around aimlessly, feeling not-selfconcious for the first time in a bikini, cooking up corn on the grill (i'm on the left if you click the link... photo for the Thigh Master), and gulping up frozen margaritas. In the afternoon we decided to go to some random taco shack in the middle of no-where and then to Joshua Tree. Going to Joshua Tree was amazing. It's basically just a desert full of cacti and large boulders. Being clever, we played U2's Joshua Tree album on our way there. Ooooh, we're so clever. I bet we were the FIRST PEOPLE TO EVER DO THAT. Mind you, the photo of the band on that album's cover was taken in Arizona, not Joshua Tree National Park, California. Going there is something I never would've done if left to my own devices (ah, sweet lethargy), so I'm so happy that I was with a group of people that took on the initiative to have an adventure. For this, I'm totally thankful in God, as silly as that sounds. I've been to the pyramids of egypt, the wailing wall in israel, the pyramids in mexico, the eiffle tower in paris... and this desert -- something in my own country, was an experience I'd hold among those. Maybe I'm just being weird.
Interpol's "Not Even Jail" is playing on my stereo right now. Everytime I hear this song i get choked up by it's gorgeousness. Interpol is one of the few bands whose members I'm able to know on two levels: 1. Musician 2. Homies, and still love their music. When I listen to them I'm not like "oh! my buddy is singing/playing guitar/playing bass/playing drums!" I'm more like "oh, wow, i'm so lucky to be alive today so i get to hear such awesome amazing music."
When I got back to NYC on tuesday I went straight to the Continental to see MC Chris's show. He was hilarious and talked about fucking girls in the bellybutton with his small dick. I found out later that DJ John (MC's DJ) had his parent's in the audience. My mom would've had a heart attack and my dad would've climbed on stage during the show to drag me off stage in horror. John's parent's laughed.
After the show I went with Josh to Junior Sanchezzzz's birthday party at Happy Endings. Geo and Greg had just come from the Heeb party and showed me the issue which has a feature called the Heeb 100, which i guess is a bunch of jews that they like. I was among them, and had a photo in there and everything... take that NYPress! As silly as it sounds, i was honored that they chose me when they've got about several million other people to choose. I guess I was so excited that I found the need to drink to celebrate. By the end of the night I was taking swigs from the bottle and possibly yelling at Josh to hook me up with some dude he's friends with so i could make out. Josh, being the responsible sober one, managed to talk me out of it. He said -- the next day when I called him to tell him that i just had a flash back from the night before and it involved in peeing in the bathroom with no stalls as a group of people did coke (which i didnt do) and making out with one of my girlfriends -- that i appeared to be drinking with reason and that scared him a bit. I told him that he had met the old sarah for a night. Not sure how he felt about that. I haven't really had much to drink since, mostly cause I spent wednesday puking for about 15 hours.
Wednesday I went to see New Order at Hammerstein. HOLY MOLY DO I LOVE THEM. Not only did i get to see their show, but my friend Alex got me and my brother Lawrence backstage to meet the band. I sort of couldn't compute that the dudes standing near me in a dressing room were the same dudes responsible for "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and left.
Since then, I haven't really left the house (save for the STOLEN TRANSMISSION party at orchard bar on friday). If I have left the house I either don't remember or it was to get food with friends or to see my mom. No more parties. I'm not sure why. Whenever I'm out, all I can do is think about how I would like to be laying in bed. I guess that sort of explains why I haven't updated this blog much... when I'm home, I want to sleep. I dont want to be thinking of words and if I'm spelling them correctly or using proper grammer. I've also been working on my book, which has shockingly sold a few copies already on Amazon.com. My book agent told me they were doing a 50,000 first pressing. I was told that this is a lot of books. I'm not familiar with the book world (I hate to read even), so i had to be told that this was a significant book run. That makes me happy to know that someone believes in me enough to do that. I hope I don't let anyone down.
On a totally unrelated note, the other day I was flipping through the channels when I got to what appeared to be a really terrible teen movie. Terrible teen movies are typically so bad that they're amazing, so naturally I opted to watch it, without bothering to check out the info that Time Warner cable provides. So I'm sitting there, watching in disbelief over how terrible this shit was when I start to realize that I'm watching a porn. I click on the info button on my remote and discover that I'm watching SPIDERBABE, which, it turns out, is a soft-core lesbian porno remake of the movie of a similar name. So naturally I hit the record button on my DVR and let it play as I read message boards. I was hardly able to pay attention to the message boards due to the masturbation scene with caused Spiderbabe to cum a projectile spiderweb from her uh... exploding vagina. The following scene consisted of a newly sexualized Spiderbabe (who became a babe thanks to losing her glasses, getting a pair of fake eyelashes, and taking out her pigtails), a Chris Farley-esque annoying character, and a Brad Pitt-esque hotboy. As Spiderbabe made stink eye at fauxPitt, Fauxley kept on making raspberry sounds, jumping around like a spaztik gorilla, and being generally annoying. Spiderbabe's way of getting rid of him consisted of rubbing herself out through her pants and then launching a web from her twat to his face. THIS WAS FUCKING AMAZING GENIUS. Every person who has come over since recording this has been forced to watch this scene, and then requested to watch it about 30 times over while gasping for air from laughter. Karen laughed so hard that it was the silent laugh, and Jordan and Geo never grew tired of it. I'm so happy I DiVoed this.
Watch the trailer. Buy it.
Today I went out with Brian, whom is finally back from Thailand. We went for lunch and then went to check out some movie called Funny, Ha, Ha that he heard good reviews about. I hate complaining or criticizing other people's art because that's so unproductive and totally against the way i live... but I had a hard time enjoying this movie. The main character became more tolerable towards the end, but for most of the movie i just felt uncomfortable -- which i guess is the point of the movie. It just felt like I was watching the life of some Williamsburg hipster with her passiveness and indifference about everything. She reminded me of the girls I encountered years ago when the WB was starting to house hipsters... they were the girls (and boys) that erased any and all sense of excitement and joy from their way of speaking. Nothing contained exclimation marks. Nothing was cool and if it was, they didn't want you to know that they thought it was. They had a certain affected accent that didn't sound like the origin of birth. But most of all they sounded bored by life. I vowed never to sound bored by life. I love life. I'm just tired. I'm just sleepy. And all while watching this movie, this is all i could think about.
you are sleeping, you do not want to believe

I'm so happy I DiVoed this.Watch the trailer.

HOW TO DISAPPEAR...
I'm about to jump into bed, and know that i've been MIA for a while, but I'll post a proper posting tomorrow (or today, depending on when you read this). Until then, I could'nt go to bed without sharing something with you guys:
This Blog tells you how to get super cheap flights from the NYC area. They're all pretty last minute deals, but holy fuck, are they inexpensive. What a totally great resource!
Another great resource is Fare Alert, which apparently posts insanely cheap flights -- some of which are total computer flukes that are still accepted by the airlines. For instance, maybe they'll mean to post a round trip flight to Chicago for $183, but instead they fuck up the decimal and the flight is now $1.83. Fare Alert finds these crazy bargains and emails you to let you know. Fucking hot. If something cool comes up like that I'm gonna fly all my buddies out as a surprise. Maybe we'll get to go to Bermuda or something so i can show them my hidden bank accounts filled with money I made by telling you people to listen to the Killers. Ha! I wish. Maybe I'll show them my Virgin Megastore reciepts from when i bought copies for friends on the flight over instead.

POP ROCKS AND SODA POP
There are rumors on the internets that I am dead.
These are not true.
I don't know where they're from, or who pretended to be my brother, or what, but I'm really sorry people got freaked out. I am just taking a wee break from digital life after coachella.
Umm... whomever started that rumor that i died in an accident is gonna be fucking beaten up!
