BUT HEY, WHO'S ON TRIAL?

The new Interpol video for "Evil" is so bad, that it's good. It's like, someone needs to stop making decisions while stoned out of their mind cause I dont know if everyone is gonna love it as much as I do.

I know that in like, 2 seconds i'm gonna be like "this video is fucking genius." i find the puppet's mouth totally captivating.

Interpol are supposed to be this "serious" band who are nothing but black and macabre and shit, and this video is that, but with a giant puppet playing the part of Paul Banks... I think it's Paul, he's got his lips. And this song is so serious and maybe one of the best songs they've ever written -- not couting the 3 or 4 others on this album that I'd give the same title of that too -- and the fact that they went with this as the video concept is pretty fucking awesome.

Ok, so it's been more than two seconds. Yup, this video is like 2005's "Paranoid Android."

I'd like to suggest you smoke a fat one before watching this.

If you're theory is corect, people need to get stoned more often when making music videos, so there products will suck less!

I think it's less "Paranoid Android" and more 2005 version of "The Thriller."

There may be a fine line between stupid and clever, but this video is in the deep end of stupid, with or without mass doses of marijuana.

So can we now agree that Evil should have been the first single? Can we also agree that I was right when I said it was time to get a new manager, because he was blowing it for the most talented band in the US?

Please stop ripping the piss out of us Brits for having carpeted bathrooms. Now the weather here in NYC has taken a nasty turn, you'll be wishing you had a lovely warm shag-pile between your toes when you step out the shower. Trust me!

like i said, like you said, like many have said:

i just don't get it.

oh well...at least "mr. brightside" is easier for me to comprehend. especially with all of those helpful guiding hand gestures from your little loverboy. no, i'm not bitter at all. ... ...

When I get excited I kinda snort when I laugh. I did a WHOLE lot of snorting when I watched this video and I swear there wasn’t a single white line in sight. But being the absolute pussy that I am, it kinda scared me at the same time. I think I’m going to have nightmares about that freaky looking muppet. The part where he’s dangling above the hospital bed is especially disturbing. However anything that scares me can only be a good thing. I love it (even without a spliff).
BTW my favourite bit in that song is still towards the end when Paul Banks goes, ‘Rosemary… UH!’ cracks me up every single fucking time.

PS - Glad the comments are back. The second anyone Ultrgrrrl bashes, I'll unleash an industrial sized can of cyber whup-ass on y’all. Pow! Bang! etc etc

Thanks for blowing my entire writeup of this out of the water, boozehound. ;)

I spent the last three days in Bangkok watching this video over and over again and drew the same exact conclusion re: "Paranoid Android" (I was equally convinced it was an original idea until until this morning). The other video I was going to compare it to - in the sense it made me like a song I could otherwise have given a shit about - was Placebo's "Pure Morning." I'll probably still run the rant in January, but, you've preempted the crux of it. "Paranoid Android" is exactly what this video is, and, would that MTV still played videos, it might have had the same effect. In this environment, I don't think it will do much for the band's mysteriously still mid-level profile.

Crappy work connection won't let me view video.

Nevermind, I saw Interpol in Glasgow on Friday and they were the fooking business...

I LOVE THIS VIDEO.

its so weird, and so dumb... that its good. love that theyre pulling the george michael and taking themselves out of the video... and in a way showing their warped humor at the same time.

and to whoever that comment is up there about the UH... its rad. so much fun to kick to at a gig.

1st off, none of you would even know Interpol without their manager. He rules.

2nd off, the video is no paranoid android. It doesn't have 1/10 of the weird-out effect. When Paranoid Android came out, there was all this chatter of "Oh, the new one is just a big fuck you to the fans (of The Bends)". This is pretty well done, and a bit surreal, but it's still inviting the fans to come along for the ride.

Agreed... their manager is fucking awesome. Don't hate on him.

And yet that puppet has more life in it than Paul Banks ever showed on stage....
