SO FUCKING TIRED
Just like the title of this thread says, I'm really exhausted.
There's a line from a Brand New song that goes "I read more maps than books" and relate to it more than I'd like. I'm not the kind of person who likes to travel. I used to be. I used to have a different boy in whatever city I went to, or find a boy in whatever city I went to, so I had someone to dance with and kiss at the end of the night. But now I'm basically hitched up and flying away from my little family doesn't excite me.
Also, a few years ago, after I left Spin, and while I was finishing up my book, I went to London to visit a boy I had loved. I had previously spent a couple months drinking energydrinks like it was water, and so when I went to London and didn't have my supply, I crashed hard. I didn't want to go out on the town, I just wanted to lay on my friend's bed watching curb your enthusiasm. When I got home, I had a panic attack about basically wasting a wonderful opportunity, and since then, going away hasnt been the same.
So monday night I went out with Rob Stevenson and our friend Chris Kelly (who introduced us). We went to my current favorite Korean BBQ called Bann, and I had a few too many Sakes.... this was all on an empty stomach so I got wasted. After dinner I met up with Brandon at Pianos "for a drink", and decided it was too cold so I went outside to stay warm. I ended up wondering into a boutique, trying on a dress, and then stumbling back into poanos where I guess, in my drunken state I was finally able to convince brandon that it was time to go home. Once I got home, I apparently turned into a comedian before falling into bed. The old days.
Anyway, you would think that in my inhebriated state, I'd be able to calm my nerves and fall asleep well. But no. At 530am I was up and at 'em... sitting on the web for afew hours in bed. I was panicing about something going wrong in a day trip to cleveland I was about to take at 130pm. I kept on thinking that something woukd go wrong.... this is me everytime I go away. I just panic. Being away from my stable scares me. Its like how some people are afraid of snakes or heights or flying - I'm scared of travel!
I managed to calm down. I'd be gone for less than 24 hours, so what could go wrong?! Brandon, knowing how I am about traveling, helped me get my shit together so I wouldn't miss my flight AND wouldn't forget my phone and blackberry chargers. I only needed a purse since my change of clothes (a dress) could fit in there.
When I got to the airport, my flight was delayed, meaning i'd miss my connecting flight... shit's starting to get fucked, but I stay calm. The airport people switch me to another flight and another airline so I can make my meeting in Cleveland on time. See, I was going to Cleve to take the Horrors and Schoolyard Heroes out to dinner with the staff of Alternative Press.... Stolen Transmission's treat. I had rationed out my expenses so that we could have a great meal. The whole point of the trip was the dinner.... and the show, but mostly the dinner. The show was taken care of, but dinner - the introductions, the conversation conduits, and especially the creditcard - was my job.
So with the new flight arrangements, I'd arrive in Cleve a half hour before I had intended, but still with an hour and a half to get to the dinner. I got myself some auntie anne's pretzel sticks, sat down and relaxed. About 20 min later, I looked down and noticed the butter from the pretzels had seeped into my favorite new dress! A giant grease stain right in the front, on my thigh. NOOOOO! Not only was this one of my favorite dresses, but it wasn't exactly cheap AND it was the 1 of 2 dresses I had with me - the other being a courtney love-esque slip dress that looks better at night when its ok to wear a slip dress.
I ran over to the auntie annes and asked for club soda and salt.... a trick I learned from all those Curb episodes I watch. I got the soda, but the salt was a bit tricker.
"We don't have salt."
"You don't have salt?!"
"No."
"ORLY? Your a pretzel stand without salt?? How do you SALT your pretzels?"
"Oh yeah, but those are bit salt things."
"Well, can I please have some?"
"Uh...."
"Please! Look at this stain, its like I had my period from the front!"
Fastest way to get salt. Hands down.
It took me a while to work that stain, but I finally got most of it out, but not all. So in my little gray slip I teetered out of the bathroom and to my chair.
The flight got delayed 45 min, so I called AP and let them know. I was cutting it close, but itd work. I finally got on the plane... and waited. And waited. And 2 or 3 hours later we were flying. Now, obviously, dinner had to be called off. I was set to arrive at 9. I could be at the venue at 930. SYH were to go on at 10. This whole thing was a bust. A total bust.
I tried to make the best of it. I took Leslie Simon and Jason Pettigrew on the bus with me to meet the horrors, talk about records, british music journalism, and to meet Faris' turtle named Turtle ("it works well for the both of us" he said about it's name). He also started ironically calling me "baby"... I think he mustve overheard Brandon call me that or something...
We watched SYH and I was just so excited watching Ryann on stage. I heard someone yell to their friend "she's like siouxie sioux!" yes!!!!! At one point, while Ryann was going through the crowd singing, I ran up to her and planted a kiss on her cheek. I couldn't help myself! Jonah read from stage from a book about zombies I picked up for him from the airport bookstore. $10 well spent!
SYh have is amazing colored vinyl with flet sleeves that glow in blacklight. Only 1000 were made so if you see them, get it.
The Horrors were amazing as always. I always make the mistake of looking away at their shows - usually at friends to say "I love this!!!!!". Whenever I turn back, Faris is floating in air or climbing on the ceiling or spazzing on the floor or dragging a bench on stage with pettigrew. When at one point I saw him sitting on the floor in the middle of the audience, I turned to Ryann and said "lets pick him up!" we ran over and tried, but he was too heavy so I pushed him instead. He threw ice at me, stood up, and started to mosh. A little tip: if Faris goes into the audience, he wants to be touched. He wants to be pushed and taunted a bit. Be respectful, but just give him something to work with.
I teased the band a bit from the side of stage, screaming "OH MY GOD! YOU GUYS ARE LIKE SOOOOOOO AWESOME!" hahaha.
After the show I found Joshua by the bus talking to a fan that looked exactly like him (whom I thought WAS him for a min when I saw him in the venue). I took pictures of them together. Joshua started making fun of my voice for about 5 minutes, so I got video of that.... and then showed me how he can do Karen and JennyPenny's voice, which are strangely simmilar, but in a diff octave.
Once everything had been loaded, we went to the winebar next door for wine and cheese. My raison d'etre finally happening when I laid down my credit card to treat everyone. Jonah discovered he liked goose liver pate (after being force fed it by his dad as a kid), Joshua thought Ryann and I were related and had a kosher Bloody Mary cos apparently he's a Jew (kar, did u know that? Or is he lying?). Faris drew the whole time and made a drawing of me on his hand where I have really nice hair, but teeth coming out of my nose (I have a pic of that too.... ill post later.) The rest of the Heroes drank the amazing italian wine I ordered. I think that Brian the drummer looks like a ginger version of an ex of mine, which is weird and endearing since I adore that ex. It was decided that Steve will have a gray afro when he's old, and Jason's friend said sitting next to Faris was better than sitting next to Robert Plant. Amazing!
I got back to Leslie's at about 3. Woke up at 745am to get my cab and make my 930 flight back home... a connecting flight.... only to discover that it was delayed until 1 and I wouldn't be home until about 4.... instead of 1pm as expected.
Did I mention how much I hate to travel?

COUNT IN FIVES
The Horrors make me so happy sometimes. They're just so weird and odd and completely different than what I'd expect them to be like... which is funny. My friend Josh Rowe over at Virb described them perfectly as: The Goth Beatles.
There's something completely Hard Days Night about them. All kind of bouncing around the walls, constantly being amusing and most of all sweet. The other day I took them to La Palapa for dinner with Schoolyard Heroes (who have a new song on their myspace, check it... "dude, where's my skin"), and as plates of food were being placed infront of everyone, and forks and knives were devouring foods, Joshua in ginormous hair just sat there staring at nothing in particular.
me: joshua, why arent you eating? do you need cutlery?
joshua: no, i've got.
me: do you need a napkin or a drink or something?
joshua: no, i've got those as well.
me: so why aren't you eating?
joshua: not everyone's been served yet.
I'm such a stickler for manners sometimes... my dad ironically (i hope) had a copy of Emily Post's Etiquette book in the bathroom, so sometimes I took a look through it and picked up a few tips.
While at dinner Tomethy told me how he tells everyone that he's signed to JayZ's label with all the pride in the world. I then made him tell me the ACTUAL label they're signed to (stolen transmission) before allowing him to order another drink.
Both Tomethy and Joe begged me to invite Jay to one of their shows or just to facilitate a meeting... so the next day I asked Jay if it'd be alright, and invited the band into the office for their photo. Schoolyard Heroes' Jonah and Ryann came up as well and we bombarded Jay's office for some of the most amazing photos I've ever taken. Sadly, only Rhys and Faris were in the city at the time, and so the rest of the boys missed out (omg, that photo would've been unreal). I promised Joe i'd get him an autographed copy of the Rihanna single to make up for it. ella ella eh ehadidid. Brian and Steve from SYH were also missing, so I'm waiting for their requests.... Jay would've LOVED Steve's afro, i know it.
MY LIFE IS SO RANDOM.
And the Horrors are so funny. Watch this video.

YOU'RE MOMMY'S ALRIGHT
Oh God, do I love the Oohlas. click there to find out why.
I got playstation 2 and guitar hero yesterday. dont want to leave the house anymore.
having a hard time typing because last week i pulled out a hangnail and it got infected. it started swelling up on friday, so being stupid, i poked it with a sterilized pin to get the puss out. then last night it started to swell up and this morning, the tip of my finger felt like it was gonna burst open. so i went to the ER for it to be taken care of. this is what it looked like when i arrived:

gross, right?
when i was sitting in the room waiting to be taken of, i took a look at the computer screen infront of me and read what some of the people were coming in with. i saw things like "back ache for 2 days." and "fever and headaches." and "sore throat." but the one that excited me the most was "hearing voices."
how fucking scared must you be to go to the hospital and tell them your symptoms. what kind of voices do you think get heard? i dont mean for that to be rude... i'm serious. it's so interesting.

PUG PALS!
You know I'm a sucker for pets, and so when i got this email today, I started crying and knew I had to help! Please read! AND DONATE HERE:
Dear friends of Pugs 'N Pals,
We at Pugs 'N Pal do not make a habit of going out often for special pleas for donations. We are constantly getting in dogs that are sick and in need and do our best to quietly try to raise money with many different venues. We have many dogs in-house that need on going medical care, especially all the older dogs we get in, that have very little chance of getting adopted and tend to have many health ailments. Due to this our Vet bills are always out of control, at the moment we owe around $25K+ to our vets.
From time to time we get critical cases where we have no choice to go out for a plea for help. As some of you know, we got one of these cases last week, Tessa (see story on below). First, we would like to thank all of you that so kindly responded to our plea and sent in donations for Tessa. This week, unfortunately, we took in another very critical case. We were asked to help Ryan, a 3-4 yr. old Pug that was found running around the streets about 3 weeks ago. The person that found him took him in, but didn't realize how sick Ryan really was. By the time this person contacted us Ryan was in bad shape. We were initially told he was in liver failure. For a split second we considered not taking him in, mainly due to our financial constraints. But at Pugs 'N Pals we feel that these types of dogs are the ones that truly need rescuing and need our help the most.
After getting Ryan it was immediately evident that we were dealing with something much bigger than liver failure. Ryan is 12 lb. and totally emaciated. After many test we found that it appeared he had a stomach blockage. He was too sick and weak to survive surgery. We hoped to get him stronger and keep him going until surgery could be performed. Unfortunately he took a turn for the worse over the weekend and we had no choice but to operate. He would have died if we didn't try. The Vet's found some gauge like material or the stuffing of a toy in his stomach. It appears it has been there a while and caused a lot of damage to his system and he was toxic. To top it all off, it also looks like he might have a liver shunt and he has a severe infection going on in his body. He survived the surgery, but it is touch and go right now. He is so terribly weak and sick that we don't know if he can survive this. We are doing everything humanly possible to save his life, we want him to know that some one CARES!!! If he survives this and we can get him stronger, we will have to address the Liver Shunt, which if not cared for will be deadly. But right now we are taking one step at a time.
As you can imagine, his care will be terribly expensive and we are in DESPERATE need of financial help. We urge you, no beg you, to help in any way you can. If you donated to Tessa's fund recently and can not give any more, we understand. We ask that you try to help in other ways. Pass this information to family, friends, any one and every one that could donate. Have a Garage Sale, sell candy at work, a car wash drive, a party where people pay a charge to attend, anything you can thing of all in Ryan's name. If you know any one that can donate a big item, like a TV, Camera, etc so we can put it up for Auction on E-bay for Ryan that would be wonderful.
Please send donations to: Pugs ‘N Pals, Rally for Ryan Fund, P.O. Box 9343 Newport Beach, CA 92658 or through Pay Pal.
PLEASE PLEASE help us help Ryan, let him know he matters!
We thank you and appreciate you

LOVE IS A SHEFFIELD
I got this letter from my good friend Rob Sheffield today. I love him and think he's a genius:
"I’m reading from my book, LOVE IS A MIX TAPE, tomorrow (Wednesday, May
30) at the Court Street Barnes & Noble in downtown Brooklyn. The magic happens at 7 pm. I’d love to see you there, if you’re free.

SOUTH BEACH MITZVAH
A couple months ago my cousin called me to get my address to invite me to her son's Bar Mitzvah. She also asked that I bring Jay-Z in hopes that he could preform a song, promising that it'd be a Bar Mitzvah like no-other. "It's gonna be South Beach themed!" she told me... "I'm telling you Sarah, this is going to be a big party. Please see if he'll do ONE SONG." Since it was Memorial Day weekend, the Jigga's appearance probably wouldn't be possible, but mine would!!!
Cynthia didn't disappoint! While South Beach really isnt my scene (mostly because I can't get into the parties or clubs down there... even when I DJ them cause I dont really fit the SB aesthetic of pretty, skinny, tan and rich-looking), I could fully appreciate that my gorgeous cousin was able to pull off the whole look and feel of the ultimate south beach extraveganza. This Bar Mitzvah took place in a Shul in Deal, NJ -- but really it looked like the opposite of a house of worship. Every last detail (minus the super drunk girl puking in a corner and a whore of dialated pupils), was taken care of... even the cylinder bottles of water that you might get at the Shore Club... only these had "Morris" written on them.
Here are some photos:

On Saturday I went to Andy Greenwald and Rachel Bien's wedding in Long Island City at the Foundry. I DJed the later portion of the night, but here is the adorable couple during the ceremony. I'm bummed that this photo didnt fully capture the look of ecstacy that Rachel had on her face the whole time. It was so cute, she kept on looking at everyone there with the biggest smile on her face. My water works started flooding out around this moment:

It was really nice seeing my old SPIN friends there. I got put on the Rogue table with Fernando (who was carlos -- i think that was his fake name -- in andy's novel), Becky from Lavender Diamond, whose EP I've been so in love with for ages... it turns out she went to college with Andy and Rachel and had something to do with them getting together. Also on our table was Scott Coffey, an actor from "Some Kind of Wonderful" and a ton of David Lynch movies... he's adapting Andy's book to film. And of course, Beth Wawerna, who wrote the SPIN.com news when Andy ran it. I had such a great time. I wish I could go back.
Yesterday I went to Brunch with Karen and Monkey at La Palapa. I LOVE LA PALAPA. Best Brunch in NYC. It's sort of Nouveau Mexican with the sweetest wait staff and THE BEST HUEVOS RANCHEROS VERDES ON THE PLANET. If you live in the city you must go to the 8th St and 1st Ave location. Get the brunch menu. Thank me later... try the frozen margaritas in all the flavors. Anyway, how cool does Monkey look?

BREWING ALTERNATIVES or.... SPARE US THE (COOKIE)CUTTER
Songs To Learn And Sing by Echo & the Bunnymen -- A collection of singles -- is by far one of the greatest things to own if you're getting into the band or want to. Oh god, I could listen to "The Cutter" and "Doing it Clean" on repeat for the rest of my life.
Well, it seems like some bands recently purchased this record, or at least the artwork of it.
Here's the Bunnymen version:

Sirens Sister version:

Linkin Park's version:

I was gonna give that linkin park record a listen since i actually thought the first one was good. not too into the second one... but when i saw the cover, i decided to listen to echo and the bunnymen instead. i'm stoked as fuck.

OH SO PRETTY RICKY
When my friend Nick from MW&C sent this to me, I honestly thought it was gonna be about his bandmate Ricky. This is so much better that that could've ever been:

RUNNING UP THAT HILL
Today someone from MySpace came to say hello. I told this guy about some glitch that I found out about with Myspazz... turns out he didnt know about it and had me email his associates to explain it. One of them was Tom from MySpace! That was overwhelmingly exciting for me... I'm such a nerd.
Over Passover, I caught a program on PBS's NOVA called "Kings of Camouflage" which was about Cuttlefish... one of the most fascinating sea creatures (or any creature) I've ever seen. Since then, i've become obsessed with trying to find out more about the weird fish, which is more along the lines of a mullosk and kind of looks like a squid meets a happy dog.
Their color and shape changes instantly, and can flash like a television set. They're also very intelligent and have a memory.
You have to check it out. It's unbelievable.

PLEASE CHECK OUT THE NEW SIGNINGS IN THE BLOG POST BELOW THIS ONE
Now that all of the hullabaloo has died down, I think it's time for me to get something off my chest:
I blog while drunk.
It happens. Alcohol is a depressant, and after spending 2 days in the scortching hot sun (which was preceeded by a few days in the crazy new york streets where I went missing for a while after falling asleep in a DJ booth), I think stuff just started to get to me.
Have you ever had so much chocolate that you never wanted chocolate ever again? But then a few hours pass and you're like "you know, i dont HATE chocolate, i just had a chocolate overload and I needed a break."
That being said, i dont hate any genre of music or their fans. I really don't.
I think i was also upset because some bitch wrote on some blog's comments that i slept with a married friend of mine IN THE BACK ROOM OF MISSHAPES OF ALL PLACES -- she "heard from a friend of a friend and ohmygod how does his wife not know?!" -- type of bullshit. and god, that enraged me for a million reasons. in the back room of the old misshapes this is what happened: you got drink tickets, your photo taken, and if you needed to, there was a hair iron on duty incase you had an emergency hair straigtening.
What's ironic is that on the date in question, i was on a date with the dude's best friend. I get so angry at shit like this. SO ANGRY. So i guess that anger got the best of me and made me declare a fatwah on emo for no reason. I mean, i really do think that a lot of those bands and fans would benefit from checking out different music. but indie rock can be just as derivative and same sounding and at least the kids at the emo shows are excited about being there, which is what drew me to it in the first place.

UNCALCULATED CALCULATION
Now that I have your attention, I'd like to announce a couple new members to the Stolen Transmission family:
We here at Stolen Transmission are very excited to announce two new bands to the family:

Last Tuesday, Innerpartysystem signed to us... in blood. I'm not kidding you. Please click on their name and go to their website to view their signing video, where you will see them signing in blood. The music in the background is theirs (apart from the musak in the elevator). Innerpartysystem will be performing on Wednesday night at Fat Baby at 9:30pm.

On Thursday evening, Schoolyard Heroes signed to us... over red red wine. We have been fans of the band for two years, so it was nice to finally have them come into the fold. The band will be joining the Horrors on their first headlining North American Tour! Here is their signing video:

EYE HATE PEOPLE
So i dont know if this comes from emo-overload, or what, but i fucking hate people. Or maybe it has something to do with horrible rumors i read on gossip sites with people saying i fucked some dude that i've never even touched beyond a hug. i'm outraged. i hate people.
emo is dead.
it was DOA. i tried so fucking hard to understand it. it's not understandable. even the people in the bands that are considered emo hate emo, and i dont blame them. just like nu-metal and fred durst, this shit is ready for its grave.
btw, i dont place mcr in this category because mcr is just straight up rock.
no wonder music sales are so low, so many young kids are buying shitty music or just showing up to shows because it's the cool thing to do... they're not even listening to this shit. There's really great stuff out there that they just dont consider cool enough to like because their peers aren't embracing it.
maybe this post has something to do with me being drunk at the moment. maybe all the posts i've made within the past 30 minutes on various sites has something to do with how much i've drank, but oh my god, teenagers have the worst taste in music.
HAVE ANY OF YOU HEARD OF A BAND CALLED THE PIXIES?!?!?1
music did not start in 2002. do you know that? knowing your musical history doesnt start with knowing what the first glassjaw record was.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE SMITHS. listen to joy division. listen to the clash. LISTEN TO THE BEATLES!!!!! listen to bob marley. listen to neil diamond. listen to the beach boys. LISTEN TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN WHAT YOU'RE LISTENING TO.

NO DOUCHE

And i wrote this to the bar owners, excited about our arrival:
FUCK YES! We're so excited to have the stolen transmission party at AK47. So many people have been hitting me up about it, excited for it's return, so thank you for the opportunity and i hope that you all can make it and enjoy the best downtown party new york city has to offer... and have tons of sex in the bathroom, as per petey's instructions.
We were hoping to start the party at about 11pm. Nick Snow, from ST, will be DJing for an hour or two, and then Karen and I will get on the decks until 4am.
Here's a flyer:

And another that my friend Lisa made:

And here are some photos of the party when it was at the orchard bar and the best shit ever (until tomorrow, of course):
Me blowing up a (used) condom:

drinking manishewitz (shabbat shalom!):

the dj booth where i nearly got killed by a member of DMS on my 26th birthday:

THE END IS NEAR
So, are you gay?
Guess what, MySpace doesn't feel like acknowledging you. You can be Bi, Lesbian, Straight, Not Sure, No Answer... BUT NOT GAY.
GAyndrew from The Hot Lisp, brought this to my attention today.
Unfuckingreal.
Virb... i'm coming. Who is coming with me?
RETRACTION!
Turns out myspace had a glitch in the system. A bug. A bug that hated gays, but it will be fixed. Also, some people told me that Tom's gay. Next thing you know, i'm gonna find out that he's a jew.

GET READY FOR IT...
Interpol - The Heinrich Maneuver (NEW INTERPOL!!!)
Ok, if any of you people have this song already -- fuck you for not sending it to me immediately.
I tried to find everyone in my address book that might be interested in this track (though, i probably left out a bunch of people since i'm exhausted and havent slept in 24 hours, so i'm also delirious) to send it to. it's fucking triumphant and fantastic. Paul's vocals are urgent and forceful while completely vulnerable. Daniel's guitars are exactly in line with what you'd expect from interpol... which is kinda comforting in a weird way.... in a fuck, bands really dont have to conform even when they get a bagillion dollar advance (which they deserve), kind of way. Oh man, i love the way that Paul sings "oh my god."
this is a song! with a chorus!
and this is me, after a possibly 2 year hiatus from this actually happening, finally having a litter of puppies fall out of my vagina once again. (for those of you who dont understand that reference, i'm really sorry, it was gross, but totally necessary). it feels great.
and this is carlos, no longer the dengler I once knew:

God, this band is everything right with music.
THANK YOU STEREOGUM for the link and photo, which i stole.

AND I JUST COULDNT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I know I wrote about this a while ago ... well, i finally found footage of it:
Watch this live Horrors video for "Gloves".
Apart from being totally fucking awesome, dirty, and fucked, keep your eyes peeled for approx the 4 minute mark when Faris jumps into the crowd (or trips into the crowd)... he happens to totally wipe out me and Rob Stevenson ... though you can't see me since i'm short, but you can see Rob's silverfoxhead perfectly.
Here is my original description of the evening:
there's this thing about the horrors' song "gloves" that causes me and rob to sort of lose our shit. it's our time to get free primal scream therapy and scream in each others faces for no reason. we typically get so excited all set long for this song that we start spazzing out like half way into the whole shebang. so for like 20 minutes i found myself moshing with the people next to me that didnt want to mosh, then hurling myself to the front with the people who had no choice but to mosh, then falling to the floor, then grabbing hold on faris (the singer) when he came into the audience, then throwing a pinata's parts at faris when he got back on stage with Rob, then watching faris as he walked to the back of the audience where he grabbed a garbage can filled with bottles, cans, cups all filled with beer and tossed it onto the audience... then running to the front of the stage with rob so we could violently spin around and then get jumped on by faris from stage and land in a pile of garbage. Oh, and then JennyPenny and Casey threw a garbage can filled with trash back on the stage.

there's this thing about the horrors' song "gloves" that causes me and rob to sort of lose our shit. it's our time to get free primal scream therapy and scream in each others faces for no reason. we typically get so excited all set long for this song that we start spazzing out like half way into the whole shebang. so for like 20 minutes i found myself moshing with the people next to me that didnt want to mosh, then hurling myself to the front with the people who had no choice but to mosh, then falling to the floor, then grabbing hold on faris (the singer) when he came into the audience, then throwing a pinata's parts at faris when he got back on stage with Rob, then watching faris as he walked to the back of the audience where he grabbed a garbage can filled with bottles, cans, cups all filled with beer and tossed it onto the audience... then running to the front of the stage with rob so we could violently spin around and then get jumped on by faris from stage and land in a pile of garbage. Oh, and then JennyPenny and Casey threw a garbage can filled with trash back on the stage.

PSSSST
I used to read the old music secret community on livejournal pretty religiously with my friends and reluctant boyfriend. But then that got shut down because of too much spam or something. All those kids would write secrets about Pete Wentz saving their life and how much they love Cute is What We Aim for and the Academy Is... um... yeah. i dont know why i read it. It was just totally fascinating to me in the most masochistic way.
Anyway, there's now a NEW music secret. Here's the link. It's turned delightfully sarcastic and hilarious (i really hope it's sarcastic). Pass it on! the community is lacking submissions.

LISTEN TO THIS:
The Oohlas and Men, Women, and Children recently did a few dates on the road with a band called Bedouin Soundclash from Canadia. Their song "12:59 Lullaby" is a must listen. it's on their myspaz page which their name links to. Listen to it. Seriously. You can tell me i suck after you listen to it.

GIMME MAH BUCKET
My brother posted this in the comments below, and I thought i'd share it with everyone:
Our Aunt Jenny was treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. It would be especially nice if people gave in her memory.
You can donate here.
Also, there are other ways musicians have helped or are helping for other causes. One is "Marc Across America". Marc Kantor from the band Patent Pending is cycling across America to raise money for The American Heart Association. You can learn more (and donate) here:

I AMS TEH LOLRUS
Karen and I got asked to start the Stolen Transmission party again -- so we pondered it for a moment. When we stopped pondering, we pondered some more: do we actually want to leave the house at night? do we actually want to socialize? do we want to make a fun party where our friends can go on a friday night even though i can't make out with any of them anymore now that i'm married?
the answer: YES.
And yes, we're having the party at Pete Wentz' new joint, AK47. He used to come to our old old party at orchard bar as did the rest of the people that are on his label, so i guess that's why we've been asked to come over there. Plus, Friday night is totally do-able for Karen and I -- as long as it's after i have Shabbat Dinner with my family in NJ... which it will be. Oh, and incase you like to play Russian Roulette with germs, we're gonna have a community Manishewitz bottle in the DJ booth for all to drink out of. Maybe we'll get those little shot glasses that they have at shul that you drink with cookies after saturday morning services. UM, AMAZING.

TIME WONT LET ME GO
I forgot that when i post things on myspace, it doesnt count as posting on my blog... whoops. The Oohlas are on tour with Men, Women, and Children... traveling from the westcoast to the east coast where they'll be playing at BAMBOOZLE... the same festival a little band i kinda LOVE called MUSE.
Check this poster thingy for dates:

I just came home from a whirlwind couple of weeks. I was in California for five days, where i visited San Francisco for the first time since I was 10. I love SF. Love it! I went to DJ Popscene cause the Photo Atlas were playing. Popscene is like a legally younger version of Misshapes but a bit more carefree and less fashion oriented. The kids all seemed to love the Photo Atlas, and I loved the kids. I will be back in June for the BFD, djing the Popscene pre-party.
When I got home from California, I got one of the worst emails a person could get -- it was from my brother telling me and my other brother to visit our sick aunt in the hospital asap. She'd been diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago, and it amazingly went into remission (she had intestinal cancer). A few weeks ago she started getting sick again, and the email from Lawrence was to let me and Albert know that her kidneys had failed and she was in the hospital on morphine to deal with the pain. I landed at 845pm, got the email, i couldnt call my family because my sidekick was fucking broken. I finally got through via a payphone and was told to go to the hospital the next day with Albert.
So I went the next day to New Brunswick to visit my aunt Jenny. She was unconscious for the most part, occasionally opening her eyes to look at my brother, or her daughter, or son. About 2 minutes after I saw her for the first time in a while, I ran out of the room to cry hysterically by the vending machines. She looked like half the person i knew. The person I knew had more life and energy than basically anyone else I'd ever met. She was louder than any person I'd ever met (save for my dad, maybe), and loved food more than any person I'd ever met. As she was lying there in bed, she gave some sort of movement/acknowledgment to a conversation about food that we were having. It was amazing, and I really thought that maybe she'd pull through.
I was in a state of shock when I left. I took the subway to the t-mobile store to buy a new sidekick -- figuring now was the time to get it... in case of an emergency. Unbelievably, the person selling me my phone forgot to put the battery (and th back of the phone) in the box because he got distracted by some dude that was looking (?!??!?!) at him. I didnt find out about this until I got home and opened the box to charge my phone. I guess the stress of the early afternoon started to add up in my mind and i just burst out in tears, hysterically crying in brandon's lap until i couldnt cry anymore. I knew what was happening to my aunt and i felt so sorry for my dad who was losing one of his best friends.
I couldnt leave the house all weekend, or do much else. I went to work on monday and tuesday, and could hardly focus. Finally, wednesday morning at 7:30am gurj came into my room saying my brother was on the phone (i accidentally left my phone in the livingroom), and i knew what was up. Two hours later I was at my aunt's funeral in brooklyn. It was almost a relief... or at least that's what I'm telling myself.
I had to leave for Florida the next morning for a mandatory A&R conference for Island/DefJam. Obviously I felt terrible for leaving my dad, and even worse knowing that I was somewhere that was very special for him and his sister. The whole time I was there, the food was amazing and never ending -- which made me sadder. All I could think about was how much my aunt Jenny would love the food.
I was having this amazing experience of traveling with people that I work with and love, and getting taken to town by Jay-Z of all people, but I couldnt bring myself to go out. I was so depressed about everything... which made me eat more and drink more and that just made the sadness worse. I even turned down an opportunity to go to Pawnshop to hang out with Muse. I turned down getting VIP treatment at whatever club I wanted because i was JayZ's posse... but i didnt turn down going to Nobu and eating the place clean. Food is something I will never turn down -- partying is something I might always turn down.
God, i didnt mean for this to be such a buzzkill.
The hotel was incredible and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to stay there and get things paid for.
But now i'm happy I'm home.

GOT YOU WHERE I WANT YOU
I finally gave the Pierce's album a shot after my friend kept on going on about how great it was... she mostly focused on the lyrics of "Boring" but never really gave me an idea of what they sounded like. To my delight, that song, as well as the rest of the album, is a psychedellic country record that sounds like the soundtrack to a 60's James Bond flick. It'd make Lee Hazlewood so proud.
I hade met Catherine Pierce at Black & White a year ago and instantly fell in love with her. First of all, she's probably one of the prettiest girls i've ever seen in person. Secondly, she instantly got my random obsure Anchorman reference. Lastly, she was hilarious. I was laughing the entire time I was next to her and wanted to be around her for the rest of the night just because she was hilarious.
I think later that night I wound up upstairs in WizKidManagement's office with possibly a stroke, i think chris martin?, conor orberst, jenny lewis, i think patrick matthews from youth group, or was it wyatt bozwell and brandon flowers. something random like that. fuck, i know someone was with me and could remember. maybe that was a dream i had. i totally forget. Oh, Ryan Heil was with me... but he would've been more drunk and definitely wouldnt remember.
Anyway, here's their video:
Last week i was in LA for work stuff and had a killer time at karaoke ... i'll write about that later today or tomorrow. right now i wanted to give all the attn to the pierces' video. you gotta check out their album, it's so fucking good. LOL at Jackson Pollis being in it. I LOVE HIM!

ME MINUS TEN YEARS AND 40 LBS
The senior year american history 2 end of semester project in Mr. Morrison's class was to make some sort of political/social video. Dave Maresca and Amit Lubling did an incredible one that involved nearly all of tenafly high school -- it seemed.
i'm in a couple of the scenes... the craft one and the seinfeld one. i've got the short reddishbrown hair.
i never noticed how much of a new york jew accent matt aranoff had! hahaha.
