PROMISES PROMISES

It's been a weird past few days and I've been playing catchup with a lot of people/bands. Apart from being in Seattle last week, meeting crazies, getting my wisdom teeth out and being harassed, it was also Yom Kippur.

My Yom Kippur was a bit weird this year since I had to eat a very little bit of food because I was on several medications and didn't want to get ill. So I had four slices of bread and prayed that my sins would still be absolved. I thought about the things I did wrong in the past year and anyone I may have hurt intentionally or unintentionally. I hoped for forgiveness from them. I probably should've written them letters or something. I was worried that my eating would cause repercussions via God and bad luck would head my way. This shit keeps me up at night.

I started feeling these weird feelings while I was walking around my apartment on Saturday afternoon. With one slice of bread/dread in my body, I was feeling sharp pangs of pain in my chest. It felt like I was getting the heinrich maneuver every four minutes from an invisible friend. I would be standing in my bathroom brushing my teeth and step back in pain. Walking out the door, i'd nearly fallen backwards from this sensation. Arriving at Shul I complained to my mom of chest pains, she complained of some as well and decided it was nerves and lack of caffeine.

For the next few days the pains increased for me and was causing me to be distracted at work. I had called my oral surgeon to see if it was a possible side effect of medication or if i had been dying or what. The receptionist suggested I call my family doctor immediately and get it checked out. Just as I was going to call my mom, I saw on my caller ID that she was calling.

"Hey Mom! I was just about to call you!"
"Sarah, it's Albert [my oldest brother]."
"Oh hey! How's it going? What you doing with Mom?"
"Don't get worried, because she's ok, but Mom had a small heartattack."
"What? Oh my God. She's ok? You promise?"
"Yes. She's at Englewood Hospital."

And that's when the waterworks just started to pour out. God, my mom is the most important thing to me in my life. Without her, I would be absolutely lost in my life. She's always there for me and so supportive and ready to take care of me or clean up any mess I make. I was losing my mind at the idea of possibly losing her.

I got to the hospital and immediately went into my weird panic mode where I try to make people laugh. She told me that she had a balloon put in her, so I asked if they had a clown do it. Shit like that.

But now she's home. She's doing good. A lot slower paced than before. Me and my brothers went to my mom and dad's for Sukkot and never have I been so thankful to be able to sit down at their table and eat with her.

By the way, it turns out my chest pains was from my esophagus contracting (every four fucking minutes!), combined with heartburn!

Here are some photos I've been meaning to post:

My oldest brother Albert.

My Mom! <3

Erica Are I, Gurj, and Jonah ... probably at Angels and Kings

Todd Weinstock DJing at some bar.

Me with my handsome Permanent ME boys in Alex's office.

My Brother Lawrence singing David Bowie at Angels and Kings as part of a SPIN karaoke event.

Patrick Stump doing the same.

THIS IS THE BEST PHOTO I'VE EVER TAKEN. These kids had the best style ever. I found them on 42nd Street in front of a theater. Check out their fucking pose!

DONE TO DEATH

Karen+1 will be making her re-appearance at Angels & Kings on Friday! Horay! This is after a 3 week adventure in the UK where she managed to snag a topless photo of CoffinJoe, and a two weeks of being a jew with her moms uptown. BUT GUESS WHAT?! Karen just got a new job at Blender blogging from the road, so she'll be gone for like a bagillion years after this week. Which will leave me as just a lone tart with maybe my boyfriend in Karen's spot until November. SO COME WELCOME KAREN BACK/BID HER BON VOYAGE! ON FRIDAY!

Meanwhile, I'll be getting flown econo-class to Hotlanta to DJ Chris Black's birthday party... which will be taking place at someone's house and is getting covered by the Atlanta weekly paper. THIS IS HOW WE DO IT. If you're in Atlanta, you should come.

STOLEN TRANSMISSION IS LOOKING FOR NEW INTERNS

This is an unpaid internship in New York City. We treat our interns very well and sometimes they've moved up in the ranks and got paid. I started out as an unpaid intern and had about 10 unpaid internships and now i'm making paper, so no whiners and unappreciative people.

I'm looking for 3 different kinds of interns:

1. An intern who knows your basic HTML (You can learn basic HTML by going to webmonkey), and can help update/maintain social networking sites like MySpace, PureVolume, Virb, Facebook, and YouTube. if you are that kid that spends all day long on messageboards and livejournal, WE WANT YOU

2. An intern who can do graphic design. We constantly need online/offline flyers made. Also, if we need a tshirt made for an artist, you can have your big break since we'll probably come to you first. Then you have some tshirt for your resume and you can get a paid gig somewhere. Trust me, this happens if you're patient. We will also need you to work with the intern that's working on socialnetworking pages so that you two can make shit look awesome.

3. An intern who knows how to do video editing and likes to shoot short videos for fun. When our bands come to town, we like to shoot them (not in the face, but to film, or whatever). Sometimes they come to the office, perform in random places, and other random shit. We'd need you to film that stuff, edit it, and have fun. If you're really good, maybe we'll send you out on the road with a band to shoot them on tour. Who knows, the possibilities are endless and it's all about what you bring to the table.

IMPORTANT SHIT TO KNOW:
All interns need to be 18+... at least ideally.
All interns need a personal laptop that they can bring into the office to use.
Ability to come to the ST NYC office at least 2 days a week.
We don't offer college credit for this internship, but shit will look sick on your resume.
If you want college credit, then you can possibly get an Island internship, which really isn't as fun as an ST one.
if you are under 18 and/or dont live in nyc but think you want to dedicate your free time/life to helping out ST.... then reach out anyway... but you need to be like, the queen/king of myspace/messageboards/facebook etc for us to consider you. i dont mean likeyou need to have a plethora of friends, you just need to be really good at the internets

ALL POTENTIAL INTERNS READ THIS
i don't want any turds that have never heard of the strokes, interpol, or the arcade fire, and think that maroon 5 is new music. i have NOTHING against Maroon5 and would one day love to stare at the singer in the flesh, but they've been around for a while. you can like shitty emo music and i wont hate you... as long as it's good shitty emo music and not for real shitty emo music.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN AN INTERNSHIP, PLEASE EMAIL SOME SORT OF RESUME TO JOANNA@STOLENTRANSMISSION.COM
Do not email me asking for the internship. i'm really busy and disorganized.

Thanks! i love you.

ADVENTURES IN WISDOM... TEETH

So today I went in for my follow up exam. As I laid in the examination chair my oral surgeon greeted me and said "So, you're not going to work today?"

"Oh, I am. Right after I leave here."
"But you're..." his voice trailed off as he looked my outfit up and down, stopping at my motorcycle-ish boots that i stole from gurj that she got from Forever21.
"Not dressed for work?"
"Uh... well, you're not wearing... You're going to work?"
"Yeah, it's a very casual office."
"I just figured the dress you wore last time was your work attire."
"Really? Um, no. I can wear whatever I like."
"So what do you do at work?"
"Release records. Market those records. Deal with all the aspects of that."

To which he asked me to explain more about... which I tried.

SCI-FI LULLABIES

In case you wondering what former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler has been up to, he's been working with this artist that's signed to Island/Mercury named Duffy, who is apparently this teenaged girl from England. She's got this creepy haunted voice but looks like a doll. When we were in Miami for some A&R conference, Dave Massey played us a song they did together called "Rockferry" that was absolutely stunning. I listened to it about 30 times in one day and I think that when it gets out there, people will be floored. Anyway, check out this video of Butler and Duffy doing "Syrup and Honey".

And for shits and giggles, remember American Gladiator? Nick Snow sent this to me today and it's just absolutely classic:

HOT DOG

I just created a new daily blog called I Wanna Be Your Dog NYC.

It's really just a reason for me to post photos of all the dogs I meet in the city when I walk around. I hope you enjoy it.

By the way, my mouth is doing great. On thursday, like i mentioned, i got my 2 bottom wisdom teeth removed. This has been something i've been putting off for about 6 years -- since i got my braces taken off when I was about 21 (i had them put on when I was 19 when I got a freelance job and could finally afford braces because before then my parents couldnt afford 'em). I didn't get my wisdom teeth taken out... again, cause my family couldn't afford the procedure, and then I just ignored the fact that they needed to come out until it got to the point where it wasn't avoidable anymore. So my parents chipped in and helped pay for their removal which was really nice. I dont have health insurance or dental insurance, so the $2100 that it cost was a bit hard on the wallet.

Anyway, when I sat in the chair, the oral surgeon -- whom i've never met in my life -- was like "have you ever had sweet gas before?" I told him that I didnt think so, but wasn't positive. He then asked "Have you ever had whip-its? It's kinda like that." And again, I replied that I never have done whip-its, because, well, i havent. Then his really bizarre response to that was "Oh, so you just look like you like to take drugs. I guess that's because you work in the music industry." I smiled uncomfortably, and said "I guess so, Sir. I'm really nervous, so can we please get started?"

It took about 15 minutes to remove the two wisdom teeth, which I soundtracked with "Intervention" by the Arcade Fire. I played the song three times in a row, trying to ignore the slightly aggressive way in which he pricked my cheek with painkiller, almost to prove that I couldnt feel anything... even though I slightly could and was letting him know this by pained grunts every so often.

When we were done, I let him know that Vicoden would possibly not be strong enough. Again, he replied with a somewhat awkward implication that he thinks I'm a drug addict. "Oh yeah, you know from experience that vicoden isn't strong enough for you? How? You take it a lot?"
"No Sir, I've had a couple of rootcanals and so I know this from experience."
"Sure you do. OK, I'll give you something strong."
I mean, the guy did an exray on my mouth. He could see that I clearly wasnt lying.

So after the procedure was done, I was so out of it and weirded out by the experience that I forgot to ask them to call a car for me like Brandon told me to do. So I walked out and staggered along 57th Street with my face swollen, blood dried up in little reseviors leading from my mouth, and an icepack to my face. I tried to hail a cab, but every time I saw one, I wasnt quick enough to get to it before someone else did, and I couldnt call out for one because i couldn't really open my mouth.

My brother Lawrence called with his girlfriend and I told him that I was stuck in midtown without a cab and too fucked up to take a subway. So he drove up and got me from the duane reede I stumbled into to get my meds and took me home.

When Brandon got home he found me face down in a pillow with my butt in the air like an ostrich, screaming in pain. I guess my dr had prescribed me weak pain meds and strong ones, and I took the weak ones thinking they were generic percocets. I started crying for him to find me mashed potatoes cos I was starving. I cried like a baby for a half hour and took some of the other pain meds, the oxycodone, and about 2 hours later I was feeling good enough to go to the Schoolyard Heroes show at the Annex. Obviously, they were amazing... which was a relief. I love that band and nothing was going to keep me from one of their NYC shows.

The next day, the swelling had gotten a whole lot worse, as did the pain. I laid in bed and watched the entire first season of "Greek" which i bought from iTunes and HIGHLY recommend you check out if you can. I then attempted to eat some food for the Yom Kippur fast... which was REALLY hard since i couldnt really chew much. I popped some vikes and headed to Shul for Kol Nidre and I was high as a fucking kite while sitting in the pews with my mom. Oy va voy.

YOU SMEARED MY BLOOD

i'm in seattle for the next day or two and i've been sitting in the same chair for about 3 hours working from the cafe in my hotel.

in the past three hours, TWO people have sat down next to me and just went on and on and on TALKING TO THEMSELVES

literally, just talking

the first dude, it was his birthday... cos he said so. he kept on chatting with some invisible person named "dave."

"dave, i think we have to go soon. i know dave, i dont want to go either. ok dave. "

this went on for about 45 minutes until the birthday boy and "dave" left. i was waiting for some sort of "LOST" connection to take place.

then, just now, a woman with black hair cut into a bowl haircut and gray undercut sat down next to me. she started ... um, i think she was gossiping about the former presidents like Taft and Jefferson.

Then she left. I was hoping i'd get some good goss.

PLAY IT UP

HE'S THE ONLY ONE I EVER WANTED

For those of you who don't know Nicole Atkins, you should. She's what would've happened if Lee Hazlewood was writing songs for Mama Cass. Here is her video and it's gorgeous.

"The Way It Is"

Add to My Profile | More Videos

She also did this amazing cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" by Leadbelly. If you're like me, your first introduction to this song was through Nirvana's Unplugged performance.

One of the best things to happen in the Universal Music/Fuse settlement? Nirvana videos can now be played! See, this lawsuit hurt more than just corporation pockets. It suffocated young music fans for about 2 years from seeing what real real real alternative punk ethics were about. Not about the clothing lines, not about the whoring of one's soul for the gain of a band, no opening up your soul at the seams so that fans can invade your life and own you. None of that. Complete sincerity and artistic ethics.

I was sitting here and just telling my friend that i work with, Josh, that if you think about it, there's a quarter of a generation of kids who just started to enter their developing music taste years and they never got exposed to Nirvana because Fuse was the only place they could go to watch videos consistently. So while they were getting exposed to a bunch of good bands that were going through Warner music group, they weren't getting exposed to one of the BEST BANDS in recent history. The band, that like it or not ..., really changed the climate of music.

It's like they were the last band that got to remain somewhat mysterious. Why? Because Kurt will never get to blog and no artists will ever not be able to blog ever again.

Have you noticed that nobody really ever says "the next nirvana" anymore? I mean, save for that shit-stirring blog post that was probably the straw/camel in that argument... but reading blogs of some of these kids and it's like that phrase never existed. That phrase isn't important. That is terrible! It's because they dont even know why Nirvana was important or changed the worlds of kids their age 15 years ago.

Then again, Kurt was the highest paid deceased artist of the past year so people must still be buying Nirvana brand for some reason. I just think so much can be done now that Fuse can play a huge catalog of videos.

GAYER THAN BRANDON

BONERS

The other night i'm on my computer aiming with my friend vicky about the VMAs when someone i dont know randomly aims me with a video request.

i promptly deny it. i dont have video chat anyway.

"why did you cancel that?"
"i dont have a camera."
"that doesnt matter."
"who is this?"
"i want to show you."

at this point, being naive, i think it's one of my long lost friends that found my aim address on facebook. i accept their video chat request and can see a wall, and maybe a bed.

"i dont really see anything. just a wall and a blue thing."
"hold on."
"ok."

and then out walks this NAKED DUDE WITH A GIGANTIC DINGDONG BONER.

i quickly close his screen.

"what do you think?"
"ew."
"ew?"

BLOCK.

you can hear the whole album here: http://www.purevolume.com/albums/schoolyardheroes/abominations

Apart from the two songs we made videos for ("the plastic surgery hall of fame" and "dude, where's my skin?")my favorite songs are:

"Cematery Girls"

"Violence is All the Rage"

"All the Pretty Corpses" (specifically at exactly 3:25 - 3:57 ... fuck the production on that part makes me flip out every time i hear it).

"Beautiful Woman Hunter" (2:59 - 3:40 is so fucking sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg, it sounds like Ryann is becoming posesssed... and at 3:25 when she screams "KILLLLLLLLLLLLLLL" oh my god, it makes me want to. but in a very nice way that's totally fucked up.)

"Screaming "Theater" in a Crowded Fire" - Every Rocky Horror fan is gonna be touching themselves to this song.

sorry... i'm just a little excited about this. please listen and let me know what you think!

Also, check out these photos that a fan took. A couple faves:

FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH!!!!

Innerpartysystem has been playing on MTV when they've been doing their VMA commercial break outros and stuff. HOW FUCKING COOL IS THAT?! Holla to one of Stolen Transmission's latest signings.

After only one and a half years of existence, i think that Stolen Transmission is starting to bloom. We're all really trying so hard to do our bands the justice they deserve for everyone to hear and love them. We always have been trying as hard as we are now, but i mean, you can't just get started on something and expect to excel immediately, you know? I think we're starting to get into our groove. I'm really happy.

Innerpartysystem are playing at Element on Sept 12. that club is on Essex and Houston. Go!

The blog is different looking now. Expect lots more updates. I'm kinda obsessed with PerezHilton these days, so expect penises drawn on my favorite band photos as well.

WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD

Monkey is in the press again. That little mutt of mine just can't seem to stay out of the society pages, can she?

"I actually heard someone squeal "Gurj and Quinn!" when the girls made their on-screen cameo—perhaps the same unfortunate soul who again squealed upon recognizing Lewitinn's dog: "Awww, Monkeeeeeeey!""

Can you blame them (probably JennyPenny):

I SAT ALONE AND I DIDNT CARE

I just came from the stellastarr* show at Highlight Ballroom, and it was so fucking great at moments that I felt like I was back in 2001. Just watching people lose their minds over this band that has been totally snubbed by so many people made me feel so satisfied in a way. Like, i was in on a secret I got to share with about 1000 others. It's been so long since I've seen them play and God hearing their old songs was just the most fantastic thing on earth.

My brother and I appeared in their video for "My Coco" back in 2002 (or maybe 2001). It was directed by my friend Adam Neustader (sp?) who is now marrying my friend Audrey Levy! They met at the old Orchard Bar party so Karen and I are DJing their wedding!!!!

Anyway, here's the fantastic video:

TONIGHT YOU'RE MINE COMPLETELY BABY

I just had an afternoon cocktail of a giant frozen margarita. HUGE. it was strawberry flavored. in an hour i need to go to fuse to do an on air interview and i was just told that my face is all flushed. FUN.

cos i'm drunk i will be honest with you:

IF THIS SCHOOLYARD HEROES ALBUM I'M RELEASING ON SEPT 18 DOESNT GET FUCKING HUGE, THEN I GIVE UP.

Everyone's been saying it's like the yeah yeah yeahs meets the misfits or like a heavy metal No Doubt (that's so weird!) or like My Chem.

Shit is for real. Gwen better be shitting herself at the young competition and COURTNEY LOVE, IF YOU ARE READING THIS... you need to be embracing Ryann the singer.

Anyway, i've been getting updates from our online marketing company about sites writing about the band and this is my favorite. It comes from SHOUTMOUTH:

News

Abominations hits stores Spetmebr 18th and I can't wait -- while you can't judge an album by its cover, this definitely hints at something amazing by the best female-fronted band in the world.

And I really do mean that. Considering that I hate 99% of female singers [despite being a singer myself, oh, the irony] and adore Ryann, it says a lot. The songs the band have revealed to date are amazing and this album is going to be killer.
-----------------------

When I was in Seattle for the video shoot, we announced it like a day in advance and there were 100 kids that showed up that were die hard syh fans. they stayed for about 12 hours... if not more. One chick showed up pregnant so her unborn fetus could be in the video.

Shit's exploding everywhere. People keep on emailing me about this album -- more than any other -- freaking out. They all want in. I'm freaking out with excitement. It's gonna be kinda huge, i think. Like, when i hung out with the killers at the set of their video for "mr brightside" (the first one that wasnt aired in the states) and mark was like "i think we're gonna be as big as no doubt" and i was like "yeah, i see that..." this is the same shit. bigger, maybe. like, cult-ish, but on a retarded huge scale.

oh dear. am i ready for this? yes. bring it. i'm so excited.
YOU'RE AT THE WRONG PLACE, YOU'RE ON THE BACK PAGE

I love placebo. So should you.

this is the best blog post i'll ever make.

Sorry for quoting 3eb on such a dreary day... but check out this week's soundscan charts. I'm this close to launching myself out the 28th floor window of my office and onto 49th street.

But you know, it's just evidence that we need to figure out a new way to keep the music industry in some sort of business. Until then, please buy records, people. If you like the band, buy the music. Every single sale counts now more than ever.

THE THINGS WE MISS

I love when a friend texts me late at night and says "I just saw this band called _____ and i think you'd love them" and then you remember the text a few days later and they're totally right...

the sad part is when that band is already signed.

the good part is that you get to just enjoy them.

TOMORROW!!!!

DONE TO DEATH

One of my favorite people on earth is Chris Black. Rob makes fun of me because I'm always like "Chris Black said this... and Chris Black said that... and Chris Black did this... and oh my god, Chris Black..." I'm a Chris Black fan. No wait, I'm the fanclub President.

I don't give a shit that he probably just became friends with me because he was a fan of Brandon's band, because I was offering up some free meals as a thank you for taking Permanent Me on tour. I love Chris Black.

Chris Black also manages Cartel.

Now, I only listened to about 2 Cartel songs before -- I ran through the album and thought it was ok, but never really gave a shit about the songs except for their ridiculously catching singles. I even went to see them 10 times over the past two years whenever Permanent ME opened for them... and I was going to be seeing them a lot more when Nightmare of You got picked as main support (they had to pull out, sadly).

When Chris Black asked me if I could mention that Cartel's new album is out, i was like "yeah, sure, anything for you." and i was totally just going to post the video and itunes buy link without listening to anything. That's what friends do for each other. They put their friends' bands on tour and they get written up on hipster blogs.

So I went to iTunes and bought the album. Blah blah blah. It started playing, but I had the sound tuned into the TV. I turned it back to the computer about the time that "I Will Hide Myself Away/I Will Follow" was on. Will the singer sounded like chris from Saves the Day meets Jeremy from Sunny Day Real Estate and the singer of another band that I promised Chris Black I wouldnt mention on this blog after I called him about 10 minutes ago saying "OH MY GOD, 'I WILL HID MYSELF...' SOUNDS JUST LIKE ______ ____!!!!!"

But yeah, it's actually a good album. It's a non-pop punk album by a VERY pop-punk band. It's like they took a lot of acid, ecstasy, drink, cocaine, and weed and went into the studio... and filmed themselves doing it while living in a bubble.

Click here to get it from iTunes.

I'll send a free copy to whomever can tell me what song "Wasted" sounds like at the 2:51 mark. I can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts.

Oh, if you just wanna try out two songs, go for "Wasted" and "I Will Hide Myself Away/I Will Follow".
THIS IS TONIGHT

PHONE PROBLEMS

I have been a huge fan of t-mobile sidekicks for years. I've encouraged over a dozen of people to get a 'kick... and that doesnt include the amount of people who have emailed me from this blog to let me know that they got a 'kick after reading about it on my blog.

Now, these sidekick 3s have been getting mixed reviews. I got one, and at first I was a bit iffy about it due to the shitty service, the dropped calls, the dropped aims, but I got over the inconveniences. A week ago, Brandon said that when he flipped his screen open on his phone, that a piece flew out. This seemed weird to me since brandon is typically quite meticulous with his things and treats them really well. Then about a week after that, the same thing happened to me. That was annoying, but I dealt with it. Yesterday, Gurj said the same thing happened to her. Anyway, the reason I need a new phone is because the screen comes up as totally static and so no texts can be written, no emails can be written, no numbers can be searched for. LAME.

The company that i bought insurance with, Asurance or whateverit's called, refused to give me a phone for free, even though it's a piece of shit phone that broke because it was poorly manufactured. I pay about $5 dollars a month, since november, which comes out to about $50... plus the $110-150 that they want me to pay for the new phone -- that comes out to about $200. For $200 i can buy a new phone!

WHAT A SCAM!

Not to mention, I've been a tmobile user since 2003! There's a certain rebate that I could be up for... if I didnt renew my service for another two years a few months ago. Did I mention that I have two tmobile accounts under my name -- both of which get paid for on time?

I'm sorry, but I DO NOT WANT TO PAY $150 FOR A PHONE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR REASONS THAT ARE NOT MY FAULT.

sorry... just wanted to vent.
I WANNA BE MADE

ALL AROUND

This is flyleaf. I'm not the singer of flyleaf. I think i'm not the singer of flyleaf. I'm pretty sure of it... though, watching this video, i'm not convinced:

MAZEL TOV

One of my good friends from high school, Danny Reichman, got hitched! When I was in high school, it used to be me, him, dan marcus, dalia yudelovitch, natalia ushack, and lorraine gordon running around worshiping Nirvana, Beck, Hole, and anything we heard was alternative. We all used to grow our hair long, dye it weird colors, try to out do each other on weird clothes and new bands. The Dans were always really smart. Marcus got a 1595 on his SATs, then did a ton of whip-its and took the SATs again only to get 1600 (perfect score).

Anyway, it's nice to see my friends get married. Reich's wife seems like a lovely and accomplished woman and they're gonna be so fucking rich, it's not even funny.

NOW LISTEN UP

My friend Ollie Isaacs sent the Black Ghost Mix Tape this morning with the one simple word in the body of the email: ENJOY.

So I'm offering it up with the same word: Enjoy. Click here for it.

Lately I've been getting really into dance music again. I think it was spurred by a few things such as Rob playing the Justice album obsessively, and this special that was on VH1 about drugs and music -- particularly the segment about Ecstasy and Rave culture.

LIES ARE ENTERTAINMENT

One of the most recent signings to Stolen Transmission is playing a show TONIGHT at Hiro Ballroom at 11pm. They're called InnerPartySystem, and they're fucking incredible. I know, i know, you're probably thinking that I have to say that... but I'm serious. They're a mix between the Faint and Chemical Brothers. You will want to take some E, find some glowsticks, and hump the air while they're playing.

Listen to their music on MySpace.

ST is going darker. Returning to the black roots of our blond heads. IPS follows in that.

Guns'n'Bombs :: Drop The Lime :: InnerPartySystem Live

Hiro Ballroom - Thursday August 16

Kitsune recording artists Guns'n'Bombs have been getting rather hot lately, so we thought we'd better book them while we could... next time we'll have to wear oven gloves. They've been busy remixing Klaxons, Chromeo, Teenagers and many others. And very nice their remixes are too!!

The excellent Drop The Lime will be also be spinning; and come early for electro pioneers Inner Party System who will be playing a live set for us.

It's going to be a night of great music.

WALK IN SILENCE

Tony Wilson and Factory Records were a huge influence for me and my partner Rob Stevenson when we started Stolen Transmission (which was even named after the song "Transmission" by Joy Division). So it's with heavy heart that I deliver this news:

FROM THE BBC

Anthony Wilson dies from cancer

Anthony Wilson was an influential figure in the "Madchester" scene
Anthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, has died of cancer.

The Salford-born entrepreneur, who managed New Order, Joy Division and the Happy Mondays, was diagnosed last year during a routine visit to the doctor.

The 57-year-old, who launched Factory records and the Hacienda nightclub, underwent emergency surgery in January to remove a kidney.

He passed away on Friday evening in hospital.

Doctors recommended he take the drug Sutent after chemotherapy failed to beat the disease, but the NHS refused to fund the £3,500-a-month treatment.

However, members of the Happy Mondays and other acts he supported over the years stepped in and started a fund to help pay for it.

His vision and determination played a key role in helping to put Manchester on the map for its music and vibrant nightlife and his entrepreneurial skills inspired people everywhere.

Phil Saxe, who used to work at Factory Records with Wilson, said: "Part of me, part of Manchester, part of modern British music has died tonight.

"Tony was a genius, basically.

"He was a visionary in that he helped bands, who otherwise wouldn't have made it, who were a bit out of the ordinary.

"He helped them realise their dreams and through that probably realised himself to be Mr Manchester".

'An inspiration'

BBC journalist Kristan Deconinck sought advice from him in the early 1980s on how to launch an independent record label shortly after Wilson had started Factory records.

"He couldn't have been more helpful and more patient," Kristan said.

"He inspired me - and countless others - to have a go if you believed in something.

"That in itself is a great legacy, apart from the vision he had with his label, his shows, his attitude - his contribution to a new culture.

"When I later met him, I found him far more amenable than scurrilous rumours had led me to believe and my esteem for the guy never diminished."

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEP

So while trying to find articles to explain to a friend of mine exactly what's about to happen in our economy and how a ton of people are going to end up without jobs in wallstreet and then eventually all over america resulting in a crazy recession and an impending economic turmoil, i found this article that I literally thought was from The Onion:

Johnson & Johnson Sues Red Cross Over Symbol

And, in case you were wondering what's going on with the economy, you can read the following bleak article:

Mortgage Defaults Growing

"More than 2 million hybrid adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs) come up for reset this fall - peaking in October with more than $50 billion due.

Borrowers who took out hybrid ARMs in 2004 and 2005 to secure low "teaser" rates for the first two or three years of the loan may see their monthly mortgage payments climb by 35 percent or more.

Foreclosures could explode, which would hurt everyone on the food chain: Borrowers lose their homes; lenders lose their payments; local governments lose tax base; and neighborhoods lose resiliency.

The already poor performance of many mortgage loans will worsen substantially through the rest of the year, according to an analysis in late July by Moody's Economy.com."

YOU'RE SO DEAD TO ME

I've been holding back on talking ONLY about bands on Stolen Transmission -- even though that's all my life is really: stolen transmission. but fuck it. it's my life, and this is my blog.

I just signed this band called Schoolyard Heroes that i've been a fan of for two years. They're kind of like the Misfits meets the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and needless to say, i'm pretty obsessed with them.

Before we signed them -- after we got the new songs they did with producer John Goodmanson -- me and the ST team, the oohlas, and our friends went to see them play a show during sxsw and we were blown away. me and all the girls i went with were like "OH MY GOD! I WANT TO BE HER!!!!" This guy named Milo who does marketing over here saw them at another show at sxsw (which i missed due to a concussion), came into the office the following tuesday and was like "YOU NEED TO SIGN THAT BAND! THEY'RE INCREDIBLE." Milo became the band's product manager when we signed them. He is STOKED.

What's funny is that the singer, Ryann, and Ollie from the Oohlas have been my fashion icons for a couple years now. When I met Ollie she was really into ballet skirts and ballet shoes. When i met Ryann, she was (and still is), very into the contorted prom dress. She was (and is) also very into Courtney Love. Almost, if not more so, than me. I'm in heaven these days.

Anyway, they've got this new song on their myspace page called "Dude, Where's My Skin?" Please please go listen to it. It's fucking amazing. Their songs are all about zombies, but it's sort of personified in a weird way. I don't know how else to explain. They're kind of big in Seattle, so if you're from there you probably know about them. Also, their manager is in the Long Winters... a fact i found out the other day, which is very interesting.

Here are great photos (taken by http://www.myspace.com/bloodivalentyne) from their video shoot:

ANYONE WANT A RECORD DEAL?

This would be a great place to get the attention of the right people, so i suggest you show up:

TRUE LOVE WAITS

Last night I pulled up this picture of British Glamour Model Jordan (aka Katie Price) and told Brandon's mom that this is what I'd be wearing when I marry her son:

I am slowly growing obsessed with Jordan.
