GET THE ARCADE FIRE ALBUM

... RIGHT NOW.

Seriously. This album is making my pants so happy at the moment. I'm a happy person, but at the moment, I couldn't be any happier and I'm pretty sure that it's thanks to their album Funeral. I couldn't even begin to tell you what they sound like cause my music knowledge isn't that diverse. But I guess maybe a bit of Talking Heads, Murder by Death, Clinic, Death Cab for Cutie, thrown into a morbid carnival.

I think this is hands down the best album of the year. The entire record is great but after 3 weeks of listening to it I am finally able to not just listen to song 1 over and over again. Glad you are enjoying it as much as i've been. Congrats on launching the label by the way. Not only do you have great taste in music, but you obviously reach a really wide audience (I don't know you at all and live like 3,000 miles away).

arcade fire were simply amazing at mercury lounge. i didn't quite know what to expect, but they exceeded anything i could have imagined, and then tore up the mercury lounge like i haven't seen it torn up in ages. their live show is an overdose of fun and out-of-control energy. and if you got tickets to the 11/11 bowery show, come early and check out the opening act, dirty on purpose (http://www.dirtyonpurpose.com). it should be one of the best shows this year!

if you think:

a. the new elliott smith is the best album of the year
b. the last of the great singer/songwriter albums

then you OBVIOUSLY havent listened to the following artists/albums.

joanna newsom - the milk eyed mender
devendra banhart - rejoicing in the hands/nino rojo
patrick wolf - lycanthropy
mt. eerie (phil elvrum/microphones) - 7 new songs from mt eerie, 2 songs 12"

there you go. 5 albums released this year by great singer songwriters that are all under 25 (elvrum might be 25).

i dont fancy the new elliott smith much.
