IS SOY KOSHER FOR PASSOVER?

This is a question I've asked every Passover for the past five years.

I found the answer here.

In case you dont feel like clicking, the answer varies between sephardics and ashkenaz's.
Sephardic = yes, kosher for passover. just like rice
Ashkenaz = no, not kosher for passover.

Yay! Now my mom can make me the things she made with beef with tofu ground round! yay!

and yum.

COME AND KNOCK ON OUR DOOR

THIS GUY gets the award for WORST ROOMMATE EVER. Holy shit. He let his roommates take the blame as lawyers and the ADL were on their case and about to get them fired from their jobs. He's also a TOTAL FUCKING ANTI-SEMITE, not to mention, A TOTAL MISOGYNIST. Geez, way to let your roommate's name get smeared without pulling the plug immediately. The way blogger works is that it emails the blog owner whenever a new comment entry has arrived. It's cool like that. James' inbox must've been going crazy, and yet, he did nothing. Poor Kasey and Angela. I wonder if they knew they were living with a total asshole. I hope they read this blog so they'll get see my suggestion on the situation:
KICK HIM OUT OF YOUR APARTMENT AND HAVE HIM PAY YOUR RENT FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS.

You know how many people read his blog? Particularly people in the media? Not to mention the gawker posting? Girls, he owes you big time.

UPDATE:
Ultragrrrl: CNN just called me.
Ultragrrrl: trying to get the inside scoop
xxxxxxxxxxxx:: does CNN cover blogs?
xxxxxxxxxxxx:: haha
xxxxxxxxxxxx:: it's like you and pope benedict
Ultragrrrl: HAHAHA
xxxxxxxxxxxx:: i know they're trying to broaden their audience, but this is getting crazy

Not to mention, for all the slinging of shit he did, i'd like to point out that the dude has dreadlocks. Oh the horror. What a douche.

CONSTANTINE

Constantine is wearing eyeliner on American Idol right now. I didn't think I could love him anymore, but I was wrong.

Constantine is the single greatest contestant American Idol has ever had. I didn't say most talented (though, he is talented), I said "greatest."

I will explain why later.

Let me just say... the eyeliner is AMAZING.
SO....

From what I've been hearing, which may or may not be true:
A new Pope was elected.
His name is Pope Benedict XVI.
He's about 80 years old.
He was a member of Hitler Youth (which, I first dismissed the weight of that by saying "Well, Hitler Youth was like the boy scouts, everyone was in them. When you're a kid, you dont know the difference.") But then I realized that he was at least 20. At 20 years old, you should probably know the difference.
BUT I also heard he resisted against getting drafted by the Nazi's. So that's good.

Does anyone have any knowledge about Pope Benedict XIV's past?

UPDATE:
Pope BXIV was an ANTI-NAZI.

Read This.

And Dave McDougall wrote this:
Sarah - so you've got the story - here's a bunch of facts I stole from
various sources and remixed into coherency:

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was elected pope today, taking the name Benedict XVI.

Joseph Ratzinger was born on April 16, 1927, in Bavaria, Germany.
Ratzinger was only 6 years old when Hitler came to power, never
attended the Hitler Youth meetings required of all German adolescents,
and was an unwilling conscript in the Nazi army at the age of 16. (He
deserted two years later, at the end of World War II, having never
fired a shot in defense of the Reich.)

Ratzinger started out as a progressive priest and was a liberal
theologian during the Second Vatican Council. After the student riots
during 1968, however, he began a sharp turn to the right. He served as
John Paul II's theological advisor for most of his pontificate and has
been a leading force behind efforts to repress liberal, progressive
voices.

Ratzinger may be the best known cardinal in the world, in large part
because of his consistent defense of the most conservative and
traditionalist positions. He is wildly popular among conservatives,
but just as unpopular among liberals. The election of Cardinal
Ratzinger represents a strong vote in favor of conservatism,
traditionalism, and a continued fight against the modern world.  He
has denounced homosexuality as evil and other religions as
"deficient". He also reined in proponents of Latin American liberation
theology.

Cardinal Ratzinger has long served as prefect of the Congregation for
the Doctrine of the Faith, the institution once known as the
Inquisition. He was known as "God's rottweiler" for his unswerving
defence of Catholic orthodoxy.

I WANT A FAMOUS HISTORY LESSON

I'm watching "I Want a Famous Face: Arnold Schwarzenegger", and there's this guy who wants to be like his idol, Arnold. The guy who wants a famous face said something like "I would vote for Arnold if he ran for President."

Just for the record: Arnold can't run for President.

Why?

Cause he wasn't born in the USA. You must be born in the USA if you want to run for President. You must also be over 35. You must also be a white male. Well, that last part isn't exactly true.
THIS IS EXCITING!

Don't mind the misspelling of the Oohlas... show up to this show early so you can see them!
ADVENTURES IN SONG MEANINGS CIRCA THE MID 90s

I'm sitting on my couch on this gorgeous Spring day watching The Alternative on VH1 Classic. I plan on leaving the house eventually, but for now, i'm quite enjoying this. Anyway, Blur's "Girls & Boys" just came on, and for the first time, I listened to the lyrics. I'm not sure why i'm surprised, but it turns out the lyrics are a lot more intelligent than I ever thought. It's basically an anthem for your typical spring breaker -- you know, going down to the cliched destination for Spring break, meeting people, having sex, getting blisters from sex with the person you dont know. It's meant to sort of tell people to have sex with people they know and love (while sort of making fun of them). All this time, i thought it was about... well, nothing.

By the way,"Du bist sehr schön" means "You are very beautiful."

Afghan Whigs' video for ""Gentlemen" is on now. If you stuck Greg Dulli, My Brother Lawrence, and Joquin Phoenix in a room together, the world may explode.

Here's what Kris did to the photo:

NEW MOON ON FRIDAY

the friday night party returns! i'm gonna try bartending for a bit on friday. TRY, being the operative word.

Lastnight I DJed the Duran Duran afterparty at some new hotel in midtown with Karen. I wish I could remember the name of this place (UPDATE: A reader reminded me that the place was called Hotel QT, check out the photos on the site) cause the party space was out of control bananas. The room we played in had a small pool and saunas behind us. Since it was open bar, i have no idea how expensive drinks were, but I'd imagine they'd be pretty expensive. Our new (drink) manager, Sune, kept us lubricated... so much so that when Austin from 'Project Runway' showed up, I started hollaring his name in excitment. "Austin! Austin! Austin!" Simon LeBon didn't even get such a reception! Project Runway's Nora was there too, and she was gorgeous. Once we were finished DJ (and our (drink) manager had gone home for the night after getting too drunk, himself), I found myself standing by the pool trying to pull my friends in. Seeing as nobody was gonna come in with me, i ripped off my tutu dress (I was wearing pants and a tank under my dress), threw it in my friend Leigh's arms (dude leigh, not girl leigh), and did a backdive into the pool. When I came to the surface I saw Lil' Jon standing at the edge. I thought I was seeing things, but no, it was lil jon. Leigh's friend Eli grabbed a towel for me and I bid everyone farewell and went home.

I think that sounded like a dream i had.

UPDATE: This conversation just happened:
Karen: Sar, so you want to know why Austin didn't come by to say hello?
Sarah: No, why?
Karen: Cause that was Jay!
Sarah: Huh?
Karen: His name is Jay! Austin was the one who wore lipgloss.
Sarah: OH. MY. GOD.
Karen: That's why he didn't come up to say hi! He must've thought we were making fun of him!
Sarah: No!!! How did we do that?!
Karen: We're totally the tards.

CHANGE YOUR FACE

Check out this face transformer. It can turn your ethnicity black, white, east-asian, west-asian, magna, and even change your sex into the opposite of what you are. Or, if you're feeling ambitious, you can see what you'll look like when you get older, or see what you looked like as a youth.

I couldn't save my results for some reasion, but i actually made a pretty hot dude. Sort of like Brian Molko from Placebo. I'd do me.

I LIKE IT WHEN MUSIC SUPERVISORS READ BLOGS

How else would you explain how MTV's branding dept. decided to use Johnnyboy's "You Are the Generation Who Bought More Shoes and You Get What You Deserve" in a commercial (courtesy of goldenfiddle)? The song is virtually unknown to anyone who doesn't read blogs (or know someone who does). It's been written about on here, stereogum, fluxblog, productshopNYC...

I don't even remember where I got it from in the first place (I think the Killers' manager might've sent it to me), but I play it about 39 times a day sometimes. By the way, it was produced by one of the guys in the Manic Street Preachers, which is a fact that I find interesting.

Speaking of MTV, please set your TiVos to record "Wonder Showzen" on Friday nights. It's a show based on the British comedy show "Kids Show," where they get kids and puppets to do really fucked up shit. In the episode I watched today, they had a blue puppet in a skit called "Let's Rile You Up, Harlem?" As well as a segment done in a news style where a kid tried to investigate the evil corporation called CoCor (say it outloud... it sounds like Cokewhore), and a cartoon about segregation. Last week, a kid went to an old man at a race track and said "Can I immitate you?" when the old man said that he'd like to see that happen, the kid went "gamble, gamble, gamble, gamble, gamble, die." Fucked up shit is awesome.

SHE'S IN PARTIES

Thanks to everyone who came to the STOLEN TRANSMISSION party last night at the Orchard Bar (and to those who gave me their demo cds!), and sorry it was such a mad house! We're gonna get more bartenders next week so it'll be easier for everyone to get drinks AND I'm gonna guest bartend for a bit, which excites me to no end. Also, Josh aka The Vicar, will be a special guest DJ next week. My people were finally able to get in touch with his people and they said he would be able to free up some time from hanging out with me to DJ. Phew.

If you wanna see photos from last night, the wonderful Merlin Bronques posted them on Last Nights Party!

I <3 GOOGLE

My friend Chris Cooper just showed me this amazing fucking thing:
say, for example, you're looking for a thai restaurant (or ANYTHING for that matter) near you home, all you have to do is send a text message something like "thai 97202" to the number 46645 and it will send you text messages back with addresses and phone numbers to the closest thai restaurants to that zip code.

This actually fucking works! My mind, she is blown.
TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT

Just a friendly reminder that The Tarts of Pleasure's new party STOLEN TRANSMISSION is STARTING TONIGHT.

We're hitting the decks at 1am until 4am.

if you're in nyc...

ADVENTURES IN QUESTIONABLE TASTE IN MUSIC VOLUME 39

I was just doing some research for my coffee table book about playlists and was reminded about Dave Matthews Band's song "Two Step" from, I think, Under the Table and Dreaming. When I was in high school, I didnt have too many friends, or too many friends that listened to the same music as me. Most of them were VERY into the Dead, Phish, and of course, DMB. I remember sitting in my friend Sydney's room while she was having one of her many parties, playing Echo and the Bunnymen on her stereo when someone came in and told me to change it. They put on DMB and I just remained there fucking around on her computer, being anti-social cause i was really uncool and pretty much there only cause I knew Syd since we were 7. Anyway, "Two Step" came on and I couldn't believe it, but I loved it. I copied it to a tape and stuck it on a mix with Radiohead and Echo and the Smiths and other songs I was into at the time. I used to play it when I was working the super early morning shift at the coffee shop where I slaved for the wage.

You might appreciate it if you like Coldplay.

You can listen to some of it here, i think.

It's kind of nice. I think you might be surprised.
WHOOPS!

I should've posted this earlier!
The Tarts of Pleasure are DJing at the Pianos tonight for the Bloc Party After Party.
You have an hour to RSVP! rsvp@addvicemarketing.com

sorry bout that short notice!
HEY ANNIE!

Swedish sensation, Annie, has become a bit of an indie Gwen Stefani for hipster club DJs.

She's coming to New York. You can go see her and wonder if that's bubble gum stuck to her shoe or something.

Performance and DJ dates are here.
NO WAY

Tonight I went to the Darkroom and met up outside with old buddies that i hadn't seen in a while. An amazingly bizarre conversation occured:

"So, how is London?"
"Oh, wow. It was great. thanks for asking. how'd you know i was there?"
"we met some fellow in the lift at mtv who told us."
"a guy in an elevator? really?"
"yeah. he said that you were also doing A&R for Island while you were in London."
"What?!"
"yeah, that's what the guy in the lift told us."
"are you serious?"
"yes."
"some random guy in the elevator told you all this?"
"yes."
(thinking that maybe they mistook me for some one else... but unfortunately at the same time that everyone happened to stop talking) "Do you know who i am?!" (realizing that came out the wrong way...) "I mean, I think you think i'm someone elese!"
(a person I know much better in the group that was in the elevator)
"no, no, the guy in the elevator said it was you. He said 'sarah lewitinn' to us."
"what did he look like?"
"black hair with gray on the sides."
"what was his build? age?"
"about 28, nice build."
"oh my god. that was gideon. holy shit, he doesn't listen to a word i say! I dont live in london and i'm NOT doing a&r for island!"
"ok, cause i thought I was seeing things when you biked up to us."

QUESTION:

Do you want it now? Do you want it nooooooooooooooow? Do you want to give me your heart and your soul?

If so, go to the Darkroom TONIGHT (wednesday). Seriously. You wont regret it. The Tarts of Pleasure got called at the last minute by DJ Kiss & Tell to join her and her special guest at the decks tonight at midnight.
COME AND PARTY

Karen and I had so much fun DJing at the Orchard Bar a couple of weeks ago that we told them we wanted to make it a regular thing. So now it's gonna be the Tarts of Pleasure with Mark, Ed, and Josh Fontaine (aka DJs Mr. Bombastic and Thought Sniper), dropping the tunes that make you thump your lil boooooty. The party is even gonna be called STOLEN TRANSMISSION -- like my new record label, word -- so come by, drop off your demos, and have a drink. I'm working on getting some drink specials lined up (ie: free booze), and will have free Manishewitz on hand (that I will try to find miniature shot glasses for like they do in Temple) since it's shabbat.

It will also be the Fiasco after party, which will celebrate their first night playing a weekly residency at the Delancey. They go on at Midnight. They're funk soul bruvvas.
OUT OF CONTROL

My mom called me up this morning at 9:30, waking me from a dream that caused me to cry in my sleep. I was so happy that she called (though I remember thinking in my dream, "why am i being woken? i need to find a resolution!") She had just gotten back from Israel the night before and was checking in to make sure I was doing alright and to send me her love. I forgot to tell her that I was in London, whoops, and thankfully, she didn't seem to mind.

In the dream, I was in a huge school with the kids I went to Miami with. It was an abandoned school that turned into a sort of house for people without a home. It reminded me of the place where Angela saw Juliana Hatfeild play in My So-Called Life. Anyway, in the dream I kept on seeing people that weren't there. Talking to them, interacting with them, being hugged by them. I remember going to some blonde girl in a pink sweater to tell her and she wrapped her arm around my neck (in a nice way) and swung me around until I fell to the floor and then she was gone. Everywhere I turned there were ghosts. Finally this one woman I knew from SPIN came to me with her 10 year old son and told me that she needed to find him a home since she was a ghost and couldn't take care of him anymore. She wanted me to do it. I got so freaked out and was trying to convince myself that I was capable of having a 10 year old child, particularly one without parents who needed one. The thought of a kid without parents makes me cry no matter what (I cried when I saw "Problem Child" cause the kid was an orphan), and so that's why my pillow was covered in tears when my mom called and woke me up this morning.

A little after getting up, Josh called and invited me out to brunch with his brother and sister whom have become like family to me. Seeing all those kids with the same face made my day awesome, not to mention the amazing weather. I decided to walk to K-Mart after eating to buy a bike (since mine was stolen), and realized that New York City has turned into a city of memories I've forgotten. I walked past things that once made me remember times when I got kissed by a boy I really liked, or held hands with a friend that meant a lot to me, or was the spot where something really awesome happened -- now they made me remember that I once had a memory of something. But I couldn't place myself back there. I've drunk them away! That was an accident! I was only supposed to drink the sad memories away, and I ended up doing away with the good ones too. I felt like an amnesiac who knew her way around by instinct, but nothing else.

DANCE IN THE UNDERGROUND

I’m writing from London right now and feel like I’ve been on tour for the past month. The weather has been absolutely amazing the past few days (save for today when it rained) and I’ve gotten to see a lot of my favorite people. Saturday night I met up with Kim, David, Bruce and Jaya at Yo! Sushi and had about 8 plates of conveyor belt sushi (hear that Karen? I beat my last round I think), and then headed over to FROG to DJ with Imran. He and I stood in the DJ booth getting excited by the few people who would start dancing here and there… I turned to him and bet him that I could get the crowd dancing in 3 songs. I ended up winning after just playing “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division. Such a cheap shot, but it always works. That’s one of the best songs on earth in my opinion. I ended up following it by “What You Waiting For” by Gwen Stefani and “Decepticon” by Le Tigre. Imran dropped “Y-Control” by the YYYs, and the kids ate it up. I love watching people dance, it’s one of my joys in life. Seeing people have fun just makes me so happy and acts like a drug in my brain.

Our DJ set was followed up by a set by the Delay who played a flawless set of songs from their current album and one or two new ones. Sometimes when the singer sings he makes an “O” with his mouth and it makes me think of a SouthPark character singing Christmas carols. OOOOOOOOOh. He also sounds a bit like Stevie Nicks.

I spent the night at Imran’s and went to Spittalfield’s market with him the following afternoon. I should’ve listened to Kim and David when they told me to skip Camden Market the day before, Spitalfield’s was ten times better with far better clothes and homemade delights. After shopping for a bit we met up with Tim, the man who brought us together in the first place, and had a proper English Lunch across the street at some fancy restaurant and caught up on our lives. There were arguments about the Killers, the Bravery, the Kaiser Chiefs… there were pretty much arguments about every popular band out now… I loved it. I loved debating shit with them, it made me feel alive to be around people who shared a different opinion about pop culture than me.

Apart from shopping, eating, and Djing, I’ve been spending a lot of time catching up on rest with my friend Tom, whose house I’m staying at. Tom is insanely good looking (picture Ewan McGregor mixed perfectly with Jude Law) and has nothing to do with, and wants nothing to do with, the music industry at all, which is a really fucking nice change of pace. I met him in February 2002 and we’ve remained friends since (and had a few friends in common by total chance). He and I have been watching a lot of Curb Your Enthusiasm (I realized that I’m gonna have a marriage just like Larry David’s… it worries me), and sleeping til 1pm everyday. Well, I’ve been sleeping til 1pm, and he just patiently waits for me to wake up.

Tom has also helped me discover that my alcohol tolerance is zero. Since I dont really drink anymore, give me a pint or three and the chances of me staying up an hour past my third pint is unlikely. Tom said that last night I fell asleep sitting up while watching some movie. I was snoring. He woke me up and urged me to get in my pajamas, I told him i wasn't sleeping but infact, watching tv. Fun. I went to the bathroom and pretty much forgot why I was there. This is why alcohol is bad. BAD. Stay away from it.

Tonight I’m going with my friend Ollie to dinner and then to check out Tom Vek at Trash. Tomorrow I go back to NYC and next week I’m off to LA to visit my other friend Ollie. Ollie2Ollie.

Oooooh! Wow!

I'm leaving on a plane for London in a couple of hours and I figured that while I'm gone I would take down the comments portion of my blog. I will be too busy to check and reply to all the lovely comments since I'm on an extended vacation from work.

I'm off t skip hand in hand with my british friends down long english streets and exclaim over and over again "the exchange rate sucks!"

Long weekends are fun. Fun! Long weekends in London are even more fun! What's even more awesome is that my typical long weekend is spent in NYC, which is possibly more awesome than London, and cheaper.

My life is awesome. You should focus on things that are awesome in YOUR life more often. Like, sit down for a moment today, put on a song you really like, and think about how great that song is. Maybe give someone you like a phone call and tell them "hey, you know what? you're awesome."

Spend more time loving things than hating things and your day might get better.

One thing my mom taught me when I was little was that there is no bigger sin than jealousy. None. She never ever taught me the emotion of jealousy. If I ever wanted something she taught me that maybe one day, if i worked hard enough, or did the right things in life, I could get it, but until then, be happy with the things you have. That was probably the greatest lesson a person could teach another.

Well, either I'm off to London, or I'm off to off myself.
NO. FUCKING. WAY.

I am a HUGE fan of American Idol. I wont front, I love that show and watch it religiously. I talk about the outcomes with my friends and download mp3s from previous night performances. I'd like to think of myself as somewhat of an expert on American Idol. However, when I found a picture of Jim Verraros from Season 1 I had to think for a minute... another minute... I looked at the photo and couldn't for the life of me remember him, at least not based on the photo. Until I peeped my eyes on what he looked like when he was going up against Justin and Kelly. Man, am I glad I gave that guy a gift certificate to Hot Topic or what!? Seriously, though, I'm in awe:

I would like to touch him as he sings show tunes to me... but sadly, I dont think I'm his "type". Maybe I'll sign him.

WHENEVER I WAKE UP

I finally caught that Spike Jonze commercial that featured Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs sweetly singing (to be honest, at first i thought it was Regina Spektor) and searched the nerd for an mp3 of it.

I found a couple of versions that were posted by Devon Elliott

First there is a remix here.

The original is here.

right click and save as for the pour soul of Devon Elliott's server...

The song is really quite beautiful and simple... I've just become such a sucker for pianos and strings in songs. Josh says that the reason i've been so sad lately is cause every song i like sounds like music for heroin addicts. This one fits right in.

PS - I'm not that sad. Just tired.
ACCORDING TO SOME PAPER, I'M...

I PREDICT A RIOT

Not having a job is fun. I wont lie. I get to wake up whenever, call up Brian and Meredith, and get brunch at Clinton Street Bakery just cause there's nothing better to do. When the No-Job Club met up for their Monday afternoon brunch we ran into Roddy who was enjoying a preflight meal of pancakes and trying to get his last sips of NYC before heading to Scotland for tour. Roddy is one of the sweetest boys I've ever met, and I don't use that lightly. He speaks in poems and looks at things with the innocense of a child. I love having him around to marvel at things I take for advantage, and will really miss him while he's gone.

The No-Job Club debated over what movie we'd see after we ate. I somehow convinced the two of them that seeing the new Ashton Kutcher movie was a really good idea. Not only a good idea, but a great one. One that would make their day 100x better. While we debated over the movie selections, one of the guys from Soulwax came through the door and I was totally stoked. I love Soulwax's album "much against everyone's advice" so much. I used to listen to it obsessively when it first came out and I think it'd hold up pretty well today if it were released. It's much along the lines of whatever Beck is doing, or was doing, or is doing again... They have a new album out now I think.

"Guess Who?" was actually not as bad as the reviews suggested. I don't care what anyone says, Ashton Kutcher is likeable. He's adorable. I want to take him home and make him my little boyfriend and talk about Kaballah and shit. Meredith and I took turns saying "i want him! he's mine!" as Brian actually followed the plot enough to find it necessary to shush the loud chatters in the theater who probably turned up thinking nobody else would be there and it'd be a great location to have a meeting.

When the movie was over, I bid my mates farewell and head to union square to meet up with Lizzy for a pre-show dinner at Zen Palate so we could gossip about our lives. Then we went to see the Features who were opening up for Ben Kweller and the Walkmen (you know, for that $5 Dentyne show). The Features were great -- kind of like the White Stripes with a full band and a bit more punky.

The rest of the posse came in time to check out Ben Kweller, who was adorable as always, and had Evan Dando join him on stage to perform a Creedence Clearwater song, which Nick surprisingly knew the words to, and Josh fully enjoyed since he LOOOOOVES Dando, and Brian... Brian was missing a lot of the night and I think he was possibly posing with his balls on someone's head. Holy run on sentance. Anyway, when Ben Kweller was done, Dando just hung out in the hallway by the lifebeat table and was hardly bothered by anyone. He was merely surrounded by about 4 people, whom all looked like people who knew him, and was smiling and happy. Heroin did wonders to his body cause he looked healthy and preserved.

The Walkmen were great, but they played too many new songs in my opinion (only two old ones... the song titles slip me but one had the line "let's forget the things we did last winter..." and I think the other was "Wake Up"). Their new album is good, but it doesn't mean as much to me as "Everyone Who Pretended to Love Me Is Gone". They didn't seem to into the show either, but maybe I was just projecting. I was really hoping that they'd play "Rue the Day" which just blows my mind. They didnt.

Today (tuesday), I woke up, did some work on some projects, and then went up to SPIN to meet up with Nick for the SPINHouse Live Kaiser Chiefs show. I can't believe it was my first time seeing this band! Every time they've played in NYC I've either been DJing or out of town. FINALLY i got to see them... I'm so happy. The band could not have been anymore adorable. Like lil puppies you wanna take home and feed grapes to cuase it'd look cute to see them fiddle with it. The singer, whateverhisnameis, handled the crowd like he was a regular on Montey Python, making everyone in the super packed offices laugh. It was totally interactive, fun, cute, and they sounded great. You know, you're typical dancey post punk shit with melodic points. Catchy. Delightful.

Afterwards, Nick and I went downtown. As I was waving goodbye to him, attempting to walk across the street not paying attention to traffic, I heard Nick and another male voice yell out my name simultaneously. I looked up and saw that it was my brother Lawrence... and the reason they both were yelling my name was because a car was about to hit me. What are the chances of my brother being at the same corner as me on the lower east side at the same time? The timing was so perfect that I didn't get hit by a car. Yay!

Here's a shot of the Kaiser Cheif's from my view:

COME ON HIDE YOUR LOVERS

So as I mentioned earlier, being the designated driver in Miami has it's advantages and disadvantages. Since my rental car had a cd deck in it I made a mix CD that would make me feel like I wasn't in Miami... which turned out to be less fun than I had pictured (despite my fantastic company who were totally wonderful). The mix cd was for me only... It had no regard for my passengers, which wasn't on purpose. I just figured I'd rather hear shit that makes my heart feel like glowing if I was going to drive people around safely, than worry about the happiness of others for that moment. Besides, my taste rules! Here's the track listing:

The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
The Drama - Stevenson
The Killers - Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself (Morrissey Cover)
Femme Generation - Honestly, Trudy
Spinto Band & YYYs - karen and mandy (mark eklund & ollie tamale remix machine)
Bloc Party - Banquet
The Bravery - Honest Mistake
The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
The Go!Team - Huddle Formation
Foreign Born - We Had Pleasure
Interpol - Not Even Jail
Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Right Round (i threw that in between two songs that would make me slash my wrists if I had them back to back)
Bright Eyes - Lover I Don't Have To Love
The Killers vs. The Clash - Somebody Rock Me
My Chemical Romance - Helena

ps - I sort of wish that the line in the Arcade Fires "Rebellion (Lies)" was "People say that you'll die, fast and without warning" instead of "People say that you'll die, faster without water."... not that I'm trying to change the lyrics to my favorite fucking thing of the moment, but I'm just sayin... besides "come on hide your lovers underneath the covers" is one of the sexist lyrics i've ever heard, and I dont know why. Lovers should be a secret. Don't tell anyone who you love, not even the person you love. This is why my blog isn't as personal as it could be.
WE'LL TALK ON GAYDIO

Pitty Sing's "Radio" is on MTV2 right now. It's totally reminding me of something i'd see on VH1 classic (and hear, for that matter). The band is looking good these days... the guitarist looks like Alex Kapranos and the bassist has sweet hair... plus, i don't think they (or their fans) want to kill me anymore, so horay!

But anyway.. it's like Elkland, but I think they've had to censor this a bit more.

I ASKED YOUR NAME, YOU ASKED THE TIME

You know what makes Miami 1000x better? Being a designated driver. SO FUCKING AWESOME!

Where is the kid with the chemicals?

HELL WILL BE FULL

So I posted this in a post below and people have been IMing non-stop to say they have been crying with laughter.

Then I found this which is purely evil. But I laughed. I laughed til I cried. And then I laughed some more.

So in that spirit, here's a photo of my friend Grant from Fiasco (whom are actually fucking great) that i think we should all manipulate. You can host the reults in the comments section by uploading them to imageshack.

Sorry Grant... this shot is too hilarious:

HEAR YE, HEAR YE

this is tonight... lost angeles time. dont miss the awesome:

BEN BROWN IS MY HERO

I gotta run to lunch, but i just wanted to say that Ben Brown of Austin, Texas, is the fucking man.

The house party at his place was possibly the best party in all of SXSW. Hands down. Dude, fucking Idlewild played in a living room. IN A LIVING ROOM. Maximo Park played next to a hot tub! MC Chris played in a LIVING ROOM. The Prix and Fractious were fucking amazing as well and DJ Elhaam got a fucking dance party going for all the kids that drank too much of the free SPARKS!

My goodness.

anyway, does anyone have a ticket to the Go!Team for tomorrow that they wanna sell/give me? Please?

PS - i'll write more about sxsw when i get home later.

TRRRRRRIPY

OK, DSTND is some sort of artist website where people can go to showcase their works. My friend Justin keeps on trying to explain to me what it is, i dont get it, all i know is that I am totally fucking tripping balls from looking at it. It's like Donnie Darko with prettiness.

MEOW

Gone to Texas.
WHEN I SAY MAXIMO, YOU SAY PARK

Did anyone reading this make it to the Tarts of Pleasure Pep Rally? I think it was possibly sold out... or just incredibly packed.

Hot Chip, with their five synths all in a line at the front of the stage, were a lot better than i expected. I actually had no idea what to expect other than a great live show, and they didn't disappoint. Electro-ish, but not in a brooklyn way.

Maximo Park were really fucking great. Tight as sin and songs that make you tap your foot no matter how hard you try. They're along the lines of the Futureheads or the Bravery.

Karen and I dressed as cheerleaders with the word TARTS across our chest. I kept on saying how i really wanted to go home with a boy so I could have the greatest walk-of-shame outfit ever. I would cover the "TARTS" with my hands, my face with a frown, going "noooooooo."

But alas, no walk-of-shame for me!

BUMMER

Last night, after coming home from surgery, my friend Gideon found that his apartment got robbed. A burgler broke into his east village apartment and stole his computer, his girlfriend's jewelry, his brother's stuff, a watch his grandfather gave him just before he passed away... many very important things to him that don't have a value. If you happen to buy a computer on craigslist and it's got a bunch of things written by Gideon Yago, let me know so he can buy it back from you or something.

He's bummed out. I'm bummed out.

ALL THAT MATTERS

is that this dog is so fucking cute:

DEEELIGHTFUL

I'm kinda stressing at the moment to clean up my desk. I'd love to write about last night where I performed the most awful cover of "Sweet Caroline" ever imagined (seriously, it was horrendous, i didnt even know it was possible to sing so poorly) at the Heeb Kareoke fete. Or how Brian stole the night by performing "Gloria," and winning the coveted prize of admiration of the Jews (as if he didn't have that already). But I've got shit to do.

So instead, I'm going to post this MP3 that Kavin sent met today of a band called Femme Generation. I didn't bother reading up on them or any of that jazz because i like the song and that's all i need to know. It's like if you combined the Smiths with the Spinto band.

THE TARTS OF PLEASURE PEP RALLY!

You better believe that Karen and I will be wearing cheerleading outfits.

From what I've heard, Hot Chip are not to be missed live, and since this is both band's American debut, you can be sure that it's not one to miss. Sort of so you can say "oh yeah... " in a pretentious voice "... i totally saw those bands when they played their first usa show that the tarts of pleasure put on."

six bucks!
A TOTAL W.A.S.T.E. OF TIME

Aqua Teen fans... Say goodbye to next hour.

PS - Anyone that RSVPed for the SXSW party, please be 21 years old or older or have a good fake ID. Thanks!
PAPA CAN YOU HEAR ME?

I LOVE DIVO

OK, right now, for the past two hours i've been in love with my digital cable Tivo thingy.

It allowed me to go back to back from American Idol -- a show i really actually like -- to Bjork's performance on SNL. It's like, "this is fake. this is real." And it's not that i have anything against the show or it's contestants. I think some of them are really great and potentially fantastic (kelly clarkson, anyone?) But none of them really have what Bjork has in this performance. There, on my screen, she stands in a sparkly green dress while behind her are about 10 string players. She bounces in place, totally posessed by her song. Her voice as unique as her name. Not cookie cutter. Not comparable. I sat watching American Idol thinking about how I really wish at least one of them would bust out a Radiohead song -- something that showed range but wasn't your typical Edwin McCain/Sting ballad -- no such luck. I honestly wouldn't have minded if they performed "Creep" (which i think someone did once on a prior season). That guy who won the World Idol competition, Kurt Neilson, sang "Hunting High And Low" by A-ha and "She's so High" by some other band... which isn't a particularly risky song, but he OWNED IT.

Oh, by the way, one of the guys on AI is from that band Pray for the Soul of Betty. If you're ever around the Lower East Side you've probably seen their stickers all over the place. Has anyone ever gone to see them perform?

BY THE WAY

Maybe I'm totally the last person to realize this, but Britney is a full on stoner. She was wearing that weed jacket the other day and i was like "Oh, cute. Britney is discovering weed." But under closer inspection I realized that she was a TOTAL stoner. Lindsay and i did some research and discussed the evidence:
* oily hair
* bad skin
* weight gain
* laziness (she cancelled her tour)
* fast food addiction

Um... i'm sure there are other pieces of evidence, but i'm getting sleepy.
IT'S OFFICIAL!

I have THE WORST TASTE IN MEN.

Any of my girlfriends could've told you this about 39 years ago, but I finally came to the startling realization that they were right. It happened seconds after I awoke from the hearts-flying-out-of-my-eyes-trance following the viewing of this photo.

A Backstreet Boy, Sarah? Surely you must be fucking kidding. But look at him. He looks like he's been living under a cupboard for the past month. He looks like he needs me to take care of him. He also looks psycho and has, my favorite, favorite, favorite feature: fantastic eyebrows.

Ladies, am I alone here? Am I the only girl who appreciates a nice brow?

Anyway, today I've obsessively been listening to the following:
Kidz Bop - "Float On"
The Killers - "Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself"
Morrissey - "Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself"
The Spinto Band - "Oh Mandy" (for those who downloaded that song, wait til you hear the remix Mark and Ollie from the oohlas did to it for my next single release!!!!!)
the oohlas - "the rapid"
Good Charlotte - "In This World (Murder)" ... hate on them all you want, but every time i send someone this song, they change their mind.
GIVE ME A YAY!

Does anyone know where to get cheerleader outfits in NYC?

EVERYBODY NEEDS TO HEAR THIS SONG

OMG... this oohlas song has been making my fucking life lately. It's not on the single that i sent out, but my god... you need to listen to it. Whenever I play it for friends, they're like "yeah, this is good." and then a week later they'll call me and tell me that it randomly came up on iTunes and now they're blown away by it.

This is how i felt the first time i heard interpol.

Ladies, watch out for the exploding vaginas, and boys, the same goes to you, but with your junk... this one is a fucking doozy.

I BACKED MY CAR INTO A COP CAR THE OTHER DAY... YEAH!!

I have played the Kidz Bop version of "Float On" about 39 times today, and finally when the grown-ups left to embark on their weekend out of the office, I decided to unplug my headphones and blast the song, which caused a small stir around my desk with the remaining kids. They wanted to know what the fuck I was listening to and dancing to at my desk. I showed them the soundscan charts from this week and pointed to the #7 chart position the Kidz Bop Volume Seven occupied.

I shit you not. Last week, 73,502 people purchased the compilation... meaning, that there could potentially be about 73,502 hipster kids floating around our playgrounds in the very near future drinking redbull while making fun of their peers for their symmetrical haircuts and lack of deconstructed Spongebob Squarepants Tshirts.

Here are my suggestions for Kidz Bop Volume 8:

The Go! Team - "Huddle Formation"
The Arcade Fire - "Rebellion (Lies)"
The Spinto Band - "Oh Mandy"
The Oohlas - "Gone"
Louis XIV - "God Killed The Queen"
Interpol - "Evil" ("Rosemary... YEAH!... Heaven restores you in life... YEAH!)
Giant Drag - "This Isn't It"
The Killers - "Mr. Brightside" (just for the sake of the super inappropriate lyrics being sung by 8 year olds)
Franz Ferdinand - "Michael"
LAST CALL FOR SIN

I went to see Motley Crue lastnight -- and despite the fact that I really dont like them -- i really loved the show. It's sad that none of today's newer bands can/try to pull off the huge stadium spectacle that big. Madonna, Jane's Addiction, and the Crue all "bring it" when they play MSG, yet when I saw Coldplay and Radiohead there, it was just like attending one of their shows at roseland or something, but with more people there with me. Now, don't get me wrong, I loved those two shows a lot... but it'd be nice if there were some theatrics to today's live shows. When the Killers play stadiums eventually, I want to see Brandon Flowers start to rise up and fly over the crowd during the last two minutes of "All These Things That I've Done" as fire blasts from the stage and glitter falls from the ceiling and little people dressed as angels fly up from the audience.

Anyway, my lunch just arrived and I'm hungover and starving.

Here's a photo of me and the Vicar pretending to be models for some fashion shoot about new bohemia fashion and misshapes that my friend Seige took for Metropop magazine.

ADDED: Go here and watch Patches the Horse. Something seems very strange to me about this clip, particularly since it shows a horse eating a burger.

GOOD NEWS IS ON THE WAY

Kidz Bop is a compilation album put out by Razor & Tie (i think) that is basically a children friendly version of "NOW! That's What I Call Music!" covered by adults and featuring kids singing along.

It appears that sometimes they have a very loose criteria for what's appropriate for children, hence their inclusion of Modest Mouse's inescapable and addictive "Float On."

"I backed my car into a cop car the other day... YEAH!"
"A fake Jamacian took every last dime with that scam... YEAH!"

This is too good for you to miss... so download it here... right click/save as.

*PLONK* MY TWO CENTS

Maybe it's just my mood, but I think that Regina Spektor/The Strokes song "Post Modern Girls" is the best song the Strokes have ever recorded. I think i just really enjoy the delivery by both vocalists.
STUFFS

I'm DJing the Midtown video premier party tonight at bar ELEVEN. Open bar.

Friday night I'm DJing this thing... again, an open bar.

Also, I'm looking for a new stolen transmission logo. Anyone wanna design one for me?
THE GHOST OF YOU

Linsday and TMFTML finally put their wine glasses down long enough to scribe this comedic brilliance that readers of my comments section will definitely enjoy. Sorry EvBates! Surely, even you'll find this hilarious.

And incase you were wondering why I love the new Good Charlotte record so much, I think this might help explain some things:

DISCLAIMER: I actually like the GC album cause it's really fucking good. Everyone I've sent it to, who previously didn't like it, gave it up to them for making a really underrated and awesome, record.

Inspiration from The Gay Master.

EDIT:

Due to overwhelming demand, and permission from Rina, i'm reposting my family photo:
Left to right: Cousins Eric (17), Renee (11), Lawrence and Rina, Cousin Maurice (18), Me, and my aunt Nancy (my cousins' mom and my mom's sister).

RUE THE DAY

My friend Daniel asked me why the Walkmen (one of our favorite bands) is selling tickets to an Irving Plaza show for only $5. I don't know why they're so cheap, but I bought four tickets.

Did anyone go to the Oohlas show last night? I'm dying to hear how it was!

LOS ANGELES: GO HERE

IT'S ALWAYS 3AM IN YOUR WORLD

First off, the oohlas are playing tuesday night in LA with the Revolution Smile at the Knitting Factory. If you're in the area, you should definitely go to this show.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming:

My mom asked me last night how the radio thing went on friday. I sat there blankly and said that it went really well despite the fact that i couldn't remember what I did friday on the radio. I didn't even remember that I went to KRock to hang out on Jake's show with Gideon. My mind erases after 24 hours... maybe even after 12. I sat there, thinking really hard about what she could've been talking about and suddenly I remembered. I told her "i think i fell asleep on air at one point." Prior to going to the studio I was at Greg K's house for the fourth installment of his birthday party. Leigh had decorated his apartment in pink streamers in the shape of Stars of David and Mike Goodstein plied everyone with yalmuke's since the theme was Greg K's Bat Mitzvah. It was cute seeing all my goyfriends sporting kippahs with their crosses hanging from their necks and tattoos of jesus on their arms. I had about two or three vodka/redbulls -- surely not enough to get me drunk (i dont mix myself strong drinks), but enough to subdue me at 1:45 am while I sat in KRock studios listening to Tool. Jake and Paul are great radio personalities and they seemed to be having a great time. I hope they get asked to continue their show.

Saturday, I was supposed to go taste some chaos in Asbury Park with My Chemical Romance. But with the drive being 1.5 hours long (each way) for a half hour set and the need to be back in the city early enough to attend GTBF/Jen Carlson/Jessica's birthday (which ended up being too crowded to even enter) AND some fashion photoshoot for Metropop that the Vicar and I were asked to participate in together, I didn't think that it was such a good idea to sample the chaos. Instead I spent the day brunching with Brian, shopping alone on St. Marks and with the Vicar at Century 21 (the man can smell a sale from miles away -- he's the son my mom should've had instead of me). For the photo shoot i dressed as a patriotic ballerina on crack. Vicar dressed as a sickly hipster with silver fronts. We posed as poseurs and danced to Geo's hip-hop heavy set that turned Misshapes into the party for the sexually repressed. I ended up in a Leigh/Sandra sandwich and remember hearing "no fair, i want to make out with ultragrrrl too." I think my friend Ron grew wood and promptly left.

When I got home at 5:30 am I finished watching Battle Royale (a must see!). The japanese horror flick was a lot less scary the second time viewing than it was a year or two ago when I saw it at Gideon's house, but still amazing. The basic premise is that the Japanese Government decided that the best way to beat overpopulation and an overrun of misfit children would be to choose a class by lottery to compete in the Battle Royale game. The kids are told that they're going on a class trip, are drugged, and brought to a deserted island where they need to fight each other to the death until one student is left alive (and the winner of the game). If there isn't a single winner by the end of the time limited game, all the kids will be killed automatically by the detonating necklace that is around their necks. The game is a total mind fuck where the kids realize that they can't trust anyone but themselves.

Last night Lindsay had some friends over to watch the Ocars when my mom came to pick me up for my cousin's engagement party bringing with her a pink Betsy Johnson lace tutu dress that she got me for my birthday (ever since hanging out with Ollie Oohlas, I've been sort of obsessed with finding my inner ballerina -- I think she's on to something... she's like my personal Karen O). Scott Stereogum got to meet her and told me that she's just like his mom, which is to say that most jewish moms are pretty much cut from the same mold. We (my mom, dad, and I) went to to Brooklyn for my cousin Victor's engagement party extravaganza. Victor's fiance is 17 (he's about 10 years old and she's not pregnant... they're Syrian Jews, and it's hard to explain this to people who don't know Syrians, but marrying young is totally normal and encouraged, which is a huge reason why my parents moved from the community), and so I dubbed the night "My Super Sweet Engagement Party." It was quite the affair with a shit ton of Egyptian/Syrian jewish parents and their offspring, more food than could ever be consumed by normal people, arabic music blasting in one part of the house for the old schoolers and Top 40 in the other side of the house for the high schoolers.

Dressed in my pink tutu, white mesh gloves, and an over abundance of pearls, I sort of stuck out in comparison to the the more classy gowns my extended (and future extended) family opted for. I clashed as a material girl reject, and kind of loved every minute of it. The high school girls stared at me with "who the fuck are you" venom in their eyes only to look with shock and horror when a family member would cross their line of sight screaming at the top of their lungs "Oh my gosh! Sarah! I see you on TV every day!!! Put ME ON TV TOO!" As if to say "how the fuck did that weirdo end up on tv?"

Lawrence and Rina, who had arrived to the party on NPT (Normal People Time), texted me to find out where the fuck I was. Me, being on SST (Syrian Standard Time) arrived about 2 hours late. Rina was given her first taste of our family overload -- which she thought she was prepared for by having not one, but THREE dinners at my house.

My cousin's husband and I were in the corner chatting /making fun of my intentionally retarded outfit and the lack of 17 year old boys there for me to claim as my next boyfriend when he asked me how old i was. "I'm 25 and not married yet, can you believe it? Everyone here must think i'm a Lesbian." With excitement in his eyes he asked "Are you?" "No." "Are you bi?!" "No." "Not even a little?" "No." I guess if he saw me on saturday night he would probably call me out. But i'm mostly straight. Relax Brother Lawrence.

After a couple of hours of nervousness that caused my little cousins and aunts to wonder if i was drunk (i wasn't), and lovely encounters with friends of my brother who are maybe the only cool syrian girls living in brooklyn -- hey girls! -- I ventured downstairs in my painful (but cute) shoes to get my coat and passed by a closet filled with records. I decided to be nosey and check it out and was FLOORED. The collection was only about 100-200 records big, but the best 100-200 records i'd ever seen. The Smitsh, Joy Division, New Order, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Stone Roses, Sonic Youth... each record was better than the next and I squealed in delight. When Lawrence and Rina walked downstairs I begged them to look. Lawrence said that the record collection must've belonged to the bride-to-be's father and he rushed off to go get him so I could meet him and gush about how amazing his collection was. Coincidentally, at that moment, the father came down and Lawrence introduced us. I guess that since his daughter is so young, he's about 45, which would've made him my age when most of those records came out. He asked me if i was having fun and I told him i was enjoying his record collection more than anything else and offered to DJ the wedding telling him that I'd play his collection. He said that he'd love that, but the music was up to his daughter and my cousin... So it looks like I'll just be a guest. I continued gushing to the father about his record collection and he was so nonchalant about it. Like it was no big deal that he had those records and offhandedly said that he was a fan of new music as well. "Oh yeah?" i said, not sure what to expect him to say, but assuming it'd be something along the lines of Green Day or something. "Oh, you know," he said with a casual coolness I've never encountered, "The Killers and the Futureheads."

Rina and I turned to each other with our eyes dripping out of their sockets. Did he just say the Killers and the Futureheads? Now, i'm not a huge Futureheads fan (unlike some people whose names begin with "Ka" and end with "ren"), but I can surely appreciate them and surely appreciate someone's father who could name check them in an instant while rushing around for his daughter's engagement party. He started mentioning shows he'd seen at Webster Hall (when it was called the Ritz), and Lawrence interrupted him by saying "My sister works in the music industry! She can send you CDs of new bands, right Sarah?!" (If you could've seen how excited the three of us were, you probably would've laughed) "Yeah!!! Any show you want to go to. Anything. Tell me and I'll get you tickets. No problem!" (an offer i rarely extend, cause it's not really true unless I try really really really hard and call in about 39 favors). He thanked me and jetted off to join the rest of the party. Rina and I gazed on with hearts in our eyes.

On a totally different note: I've been having dreams about Maxine, my dog, almost everynight. One was that she was dead but brought back to life some how... and only able to exist in a sort of faux-life state. She was breathing but didnt need to eat or drink or pee. She just existed and gave us the love we needed from her. Another dream was that my cousin gave me her son to hold and burp, and suddenly her son turned into a vomiting Maxine that I had to worry about all over again. Was she sick? Did she need to go to the hospital? Fears returning until I realized in my dream that she was dead. I'm starting to really miss her again. My mom and dad get really sad whenever I mention her and I got to hold and kiss her box of ashes a week ago. It's obviously not the same.

NOT SAFE FOR WORK

Apparently someone hacked into fred durst's sidekick or something, and posted photos of him putting it in some girl's yeah.

Thanks K-Rock for the shout out! I think I'm going to be on Jake's show tonight at 11pm-ish.

INTERESTING

Thank you Rob Holmes, for directing me to this new Longwave song. Whatever they're doing here is pretty fucking great.
ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?

Did i just see the singer of Hootie and the Blowfish in a Burger King commercial while watching American Idol? Amazing.

The girl performing "Against all Odds" is actually pretty good and sort of makes me like the song. I also liked the girl right before her who couldn't sing is my favorite.

Anyone else watching?
RADIO TRANSMISSION

Michael Goodstein just told me that on his radio show tonight (from 11pm-2am), which can be heard on the internet, they'll be airing Greg K's on-air birthday bash and giving away dates with Sheal!
HELP MY FRIEND FIND LOVE

You know when you've met someone and think "this person makes my life awesome!" and then, for whatever reason, you're separated from this love and need to tell them how you feel just because you have to? A certain trip to london a year or so ago for me did the trick, and now my friend needs to do this as well.

Please read this. Thank you.
MY FRIENDS DO GOOD STUFF

So i'm proud of them and like to share with my other friends the fun stuff that they can check out:

Lindsay is having a return of the Ritalin Reading tomorrow! The line up is pretty fucking sweet:
* Mike Albo (Author of the hilarious new book "The Underminer" with Virginia Heffernan and star of My Price Point at P.S. 122)
* Alex Balk, aka TMFTML (also co-host)
* Patrick Borelli (Premium Blend, Conan O'Brien)
* Jessica Coen (Editor, Gawker)
* Christian Finnegan (Best Week Ever, Chappelle's Show, and the upcoming Comedy Central Presents on March 11.)
* Will Leitch (Author, Life As A Loser, Editor, The Black Table)

(Plus a surprise musical guest probably maybe!)

ALSO! Jake Fogelnest and comedien Paul Scheer are getting their own show on KRock in NYC starting today that's from 10pm - 2am. Here, in Jake's words, are the details:

Paul Scheer and I are going to be on the radio together. It’s a four night experiment that my insanely cool boss at 92.3 K-Rock in New York City wanted to try out. Every night, from 10pm-2am, Scheer and I are being thrown on the air with ONLY the following guidelines:

Don’t curse.
Make sure we play enough music.
Have fun and do whatever we want.

Hopefully it won't be a total trainwreck! Paul and I have four hours a night to do the greatest, crappy, college radio show ever. The only hitch is that we’re going to be broadcasting on a huge radio station and people will actually be listening to the damn thing.

They invited me to stop by the studio later this week and will be breaking out the air-delay thing for that since I can't seem to control my cursing.
YOU HELD THE WORLD IN YOUR ARMS

The Today show just had Ozone on their show performing the gayest romanian song that ever was (which became popular in america because of a cute 19 year old boy in nj armed with a webcam). That was pretty awesome.

Anyway, who reading this is going to SXSW? stolen transmission is throwing a party for SPIN. it's the Official Unofficial SPIN Afterparty presented by stolen transmission. Performing (among others) will be: Maximo Park, MC Chris and Idlewild. It's at someone's house and he's got a hot tub and SPARKS is providing booze and AddVice is sponsoring. Also, Bloc Party is DJing.

The first 25 people to email me will get passes or on the list or whatever and can bring a guest. I might be able to invite more people, but at this point, there are so many people involved with the party that I wont be able to give out more passes.

Please put SXSW HOUSE PARTY in the subject line. thanks!

LET THE RAIN FALL DOWN

Did anyone go to Misshapes last night? The shit was bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

Saturday, February 19, 2005

OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD

Anyone that ran into me last night probably knows I have something funny to blog about, but i'm gonna keep last night, as i keep most fun things in my life these days, a secret.

Instead, i bring you the two headed baby:

DANCE DANCE DANCE TO THE GAYDIO

Did anyone else see the OC last night? As a basically straight girl who is scared to death of vaginas (mine's always exploding), I am as blueballed as everyone else by this lesbian bullshit. They need to be filling Mischa's flask with a white wine and vicodin mixture, stat, so she could at least show some sort of chemistry. I know her acting is stiff, but the connection between two characters has never been so lacking as it has with the whole Micsha/Alex thing. OK, she is supposed to be weirded out by her recent interest in punanny, but c'mon. I've seen more chemistry between me and a can of sugar free redbull. Thank goodness I have DiVo, so i can rewatch the episode and take in all of Seth's witty popculture commentary.

I went with Karen, the Vicar and my new favorite person, Matt, to see the Music and Kasabian last night... but not before pre-partying at Karen's so we could dance with our arms in the air like a bunch of retarded hippies. I got there just before Kasabian and ran into "my family" as the Vicar calls them. They're this amazing trio of a mom (amy), son (dude, 13) and daughter (jordana, 16), and they go to shows all the time and invite me to birthday dinners and know about all the good bands before even me. I was so stoked to run into them... man, i wish i went to awesome shows with my mom when I was their age. She just took me to see Julio Iglasias.

So anyway, we went upstairs to stand on chairs since the lot of us are a bunch of fucking midgets (minus Karen, whom at 5'8, towers over her munchkin posse), and I balanced myself as I spazzed out while on my perch. I wish i got there early enough to be in the crowd and right by the stage, but I had fun regardless. Kasabian LOVES Primal Scream, the Verve, and the Stone Roses a lot. I think that if this were 1998 and Radiohead didn't exist, and i were a boy, I would've been dreaming that I was Richard Ashcroft and singing like I was what'shisface from Primal Scream. Bobby Gillespie. Oh, sweet Bobby.

I've seen the Music about 29 times or something. They used to tour with the Vines, and so my girls and I would take little trips to see the Music play and stare in awe at singer Robert Harvey's dancing and singing and Phil's maniac drumming that could've been used in a Chemical Brother's album. I was bummed out that I had to leave their show early to DJ, but I got to show the knuckles while being welcomed to the north. I sadly missed the song that makes Robert sing like kermit.

The Vicar and I went over to Bar 13 for the Broadcast party and watched Low Flying Jets, whom remind me a little of Supergrass. I drank about 4 beers and danced around with Raphael the boyfriend and his girlfriend with the awesomest body evs. I actually beatmatched... which I can actually do sometimes, but never bother with. I'm not technically where i'd like to be (though, the system at 13 isn't really ideal to try out on)... but i think i'm slowly getting there. Very slowly.

Vicar and I watched the dancers show off their best moves... one girl did some sort of helicopter propeller motion and knocked into some dude behind her. I couldn't help but laugh... it was something out of a movie and i couldn't believe how lucky i was to witness it. I don't normally laugh at shit people do, but it was truly amazing and nobody got hurt. No joke, but that girl is my new favorite dancer. My private dancer. My tiny dancer.

It was amazing to hang out with Raphael again in a situation less intense than Misshapes. I miss my nights dancing with him and Greg til 4 am. I think I spent a good 9 months with those two boys, dancing and making out behind my brother's back every night until our little drunken hearts couldn't stand anymore and their little thieving hands couldn't get their paws on drinks left on tables by patrons to save money on the expensive drink prices. This trick i learned from them really came in handy on New Years Eve when nobody wanted to spend $14 on champagne.

I feel old now. I like to sit in the corner more than take over the dance floor. I don't even like going out as much as I used to. I get paranoid and tired quickly. I want to be in bed by 1am and watch the Iron Chef as I doze of to slumberland.

I gotta run and meet my brother and Rina for dinner at my parent's house. This is Rina's second adventure to Lewitinnland... she hasn't yet been turned off by the fact that my house is now an eBay storage facility.

Rina was also kind enough to send me the following links:

Kids in DC singing and dancing along with the arcade fire.

Now the ladies can write their name in snow. Vicar watched that about seventy-five times and couldn't get over the fact that when the animation is over, the girl just stands there blinking. She doesn't even wash her hands.

In return, he sent me this link. Sushi Pillows!

And the mailman just delivered a Killers platinum plaque to me. It says my name and is white. This is what it looks like. And if you ever wondered what my desk looks like, here it it in all it's messy glory(hole).

By the way, Idlewild is fucking AMAZING. I don't care if you're listening to old or new idlewild. Karen's been sharing an email conversation she's been having with a friend about what the lyrics mean and it's totally blowing my mind. She says: "too many people hide from themselves in thier coupledom and this false belief theyre not alone if theyre 'with someone...'" Mikey IMed me to tell me how obsessed he was with the new album, particularly tracks 1 and 9. I think that's everyone's favorites off of PromisesWarnings. It's got a total Walkmen intro (appropriately, since they are in love with the Walkmen), and is just sort of uplifting and strangely close to the thoughts in my head. I want to write Roddy an email letting him know that while he's been away, his friends have become creepily obsessed with his band and his lyrics. I almost forgot how painfully obsessed I was with this band until everyone started listening to them again and reminding me how good they are.

Hey, people who read this blog, i dont think i've ever said this and I dont know if it's the Idlewild talking, but I love you. thank you for being nice and sending me nice emails. It makes me happy.
ANGELINA JOLLY

Not only does she got some big ass titties, but she's now a Homewrecker

Thanks to the Vicar for the link.
JUST IN CASE

I'm not sure if he's in jail right now, but this is something you should save to your desktop just incase. I was inspired, once again, by The GayMaster.

TU VEUX UN BONBON

It appears that Xtina Aguilera is turning Jewish... specifically, into my Egyptian Jewish Grandmother, Fortunee (back me up Lawrence):

BRITISH SEA TICKETS

NYC show can be purchased here.

Go. Bring shrubbery and toy drums.
HOLY MOTHERFUCKING SHIT, MY GOD, HOLY MOLY!

You all NEED TO SEE THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW. it's the my chemical romance video for "helena" ... my vagina
has exploded. i shit you not. i held my breath for so long that nearly passed out and puked all over the Vicar's
laptop. I want to watch this video every hour... on the hour....(they drew blood).

Also, the fine folks at K-Rock Radio wrote to me last night to tell me that the video is on their site as well. You can watch it here if the above link doesn't work out.

This video is like the darker side of "Mr Brightside" by the Killers.

LUCKY

I JUST RUMMAGED THROUGH MY UNOPENED PACKAGES AND FOUND THE NEW BRITISH SEA POWER ALBUM!

I'm so stoked. This shit is as good as the last. I am going to leave my job and stand on the beach feeding seagulls while listening to this album.
SHOOT SPEED/KILL LIGHT

This is just a friendly reminder: Primal Scream fucking rules.
I was at a party the other night and the DJ played two Primal Scream songs in a row (old vs. new) and I wanted to cry with excitement. I wanted to find ecstasy and try it for the first time and lock myself in my room and listen to "Come Together" over and over again.

Wanna fight cancer? Get AIDS.
I wish i were kidding. It appears that doctors have managed to manipulate the AIDS virus to kill cancer cells in mice. This might be the biggest medical breakthrough this year. Jason told me that he doesn't want cancer nor AIDS in his body, and I have to agree with him on that one. However, this discovery is pretty remarkable.

In other news, Launch has the new My Chemical Romance video for "Helena." I can't get it to work on my computer, but I sent it to Karen and her response was overwhelmingly positive... she said something along the lines of "this band exists to be in videos." Can someone save it as a quicktime file or something for me so i can see it? I'm going crazy over here.

Also, I'm going to be DJing tomorrow (thursday) night at Bar 13 (13th and University) for the Broadcast party after I lose my shit at the Kasabian/Music show. I've seen the light, and it was Junior Sanchez, and so my set will be heavily influenced by him. I really can't wait. Vodka OPEN BAR 11-12. Live Performance From THE LOW FLYING JETS.

And in case you didn't know, Bloc Party will be playing at Motherfucker at the Roxy.
IT'S NOT OK

Newsflash for all my Kosher readers: STARBUCKS' CARAMEL FLAVORING IS NOT KOSHER.

Now, if you're like my brother, you're gonna be all annoying and say "how do you know?"

this is how i know:

Me: Hi. I would like to have a triple shot, venti, skim, caramel macchiato please.
Server: Do you go to Stern [the jewish girl university my SPIN offices]?
Me: No. Why?
Server: Cause the caramel we use isnt kosher.
Me: Wow. Why not? Is there like, pig in it?
Server: There's gelatin.
Me: No kidding. Thank you for the tip.

OK. So now i've injested about 30 animal's worth of gelatin and, as Rina told my brother, God is going to make me play scrabble with Paris Hilton when I go upstairs.

Speaking of Jews... Jordan Bratman, Xtina's fiance, is very much a member of the tribe. I wonder if she'll convert.

And also...

Joe Simpson = Religious Sellout/The Anti-Christ

He's Jessica and Ashlee's dad/manager/former southern baptist minister, who apparently finds it ok to drink beers with his kids. From what i've been told, southern baptist ministers dont drink and they dont talk about their daughter's big boobs in the press. And i think he has a messiah complex because in the bible it says that man was created in the image of God, and Jessica is the spitting image of him. i think he thinks he's God as a result.

GO! GO! GO!

Gothamist is having a birthday party tomorrow night (wednesday), and I couldn't urge you more to go. Elkland is playing and I watched their video the other day and the singer dances EXACTLY like me. It's totally uncanny... like we're dance partners separated at birth. But this isn't why you should go -- you should go cause they're fantastic and dancey like Erasure or the Killers.

Also, Stereogum and Coolfer are both DJing, so you can see who the bloggers are calling the "hottest dude bloggers that don't show their nutsacks, evs!"

More info is here.
YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE

Fluxblog is awesome. The genius behind the blog posted a remix of "You Are the Generation Who Bought More Shoes and You Get What You Deserve". I'm gonna ask Junior Sanchez to teach me how to DJ properly so i can DJ this song and blend it right into Bloc Party or something. I saw Junior DJ on friday night at the Tribeca Grand for some party and I couldnt get out of my seat for like a half hour cause i was too busy trying to study his craft. The man is a fucking genius with the way he mixes. I sat there thinking in my head "should i quit djing or should i learn how to dj?" I think i'm going to learn how to dj like a dj and not so much like a juke box. He's nice enough that I think he'd actually teach me if I asked. Anyway, thank you Scott for sending me to fluxblog.

BY THE WAY: Saints and Lovers are performing tonight at 9:30pm at Rothko (suffolk street, between delancey and rivington). So bring a bullet proof vest and check them out. Karen and I are totally fucking in love with this band and they usually start out their set with a Joy Division cover of "Atmosphere" that is so worthy of vaginal explosions that I'm gonna be releasing it in a couple of months on stolen transmission.
WHAT'S IN DUFF'S BAG?

She's totally my new favorite popstar:

She loves the oohlas, and so i love her. Or at least i love Adi for sending me that photo.

Speaking of Duff, THIS IS AMAZING. People love Hilary Duff! Thank you to The Changes for that!
BACK TO THE OLD HABITS

Well, I think I'm back off the wagon. I started out slowly -- a drink here, a drink there, mostly when certain people weren't looking -- and then i got more open about it, just when people stopped offering to buy me drinks. I've been promising some friends that i was gonna make a comeback/return since some people i know have commented that I haven't been acting the same lately, and pretty much assumed it was the lack of alcohol in my blood. Maybe they were right.

The other night i went to a party with ollie and mark and it was open bar and I just drank, and when i fell on the floor i drank some more. I danced with them to hip hop in a tutu and got lost in the music and the moment (i own it!), throwing my hands in the air, giving hugs, and dishing out the "i love you guys!" bomb more than i have in ages (cause it's true, i do love them). It's fun to let your guard down sometimes, i guess. Or maybe this is how i act when I'm unsupervised.

AWESOME!

Steal the oohlas music.
TV EYE

Incase you're watching TV at 7pm *TODAY*... which is now, on the east coast, put on FUSE cause they've got MUSE LIVE AT THE WILTERN. Muse is one of the greatest live bands around right now. This is up for debate, but i'm making it a fact starting right now.

And on Access Hollywood tonight I'm gonna get to hear K.Fed speak for the very first time. horay!

UPDATE: This Muse thing is fucking awesome. Matt Bellamy is one of the most underrated artists of our generation. I don't care if people suggest that Muse uses a backing guitar track... Matt Bellamy is a guitar playing genius and I like them more than Radiohead these days. Yes, Muse probably never would've exist if there was no Radiohead, however, I don't even like referring to Radiohead in the same breath as Muse. Muse deserve more than that. They deserve to have things like planets named after them. I don't care what people say about Bellamy, cause Yorke and Co have their heads lodged so far up their own asses that they stopped making listenable music (this is where you say that my taste is too simple to even understand radiohead and this is where you say i'm too stupid to understand radiohead, and this is where i tell you to go fuck yourselves, so relax, ok?). Muse makes nothign but songs i want to listen to. I walked by someone's office today and they were listening to Radiohead and i was almost grossed out. This is coming from someone who was once the biggest radiohead super fan a person could be.

Muse is everything a rock band should be. Plain and simple.

ANOTHER UPDATE: My eyes cross and my feet go numb whenever I hear the piano breakdown in "Butterflies and Hurricanes". I'm just sayin.
MY MEMORY = BAD

Did someone email me a song called "We Had Pleasure" by a band called Foreign Born? Or did someone post it on their site? I found the song on my desktop and I can't, for the life of me, remember how it got there and i like it a lot.
