ACHTUNG, BABY!

Lastnight I was watching tv and goofing off and this commercial came on for WebMD (i think) and I turned to Brandon and Ryan Heil and said "Holy shit! That baby looks like Hitler!" They were like "You're out of your mind... YEAH, a baby looks like hitler... you loon. We gotta see this to prove you're out of your mind." And then they saw the baby and freaked out. it looked like Hitler.

"Yay! Master Race!"

"Ahh... Jews."

PARTY! WOO! YAY!

Since there seem to be quite a few Damone fans out there reading this blog, i have some good news: Damone is playing a last minute show at the Viper Room in LA tomorrow night at 7. If you say "vital signs" at the door you get in free.

Have fun!

DAMN DIRTY APES

Stolen Transmission bands love us. They love us so much that they monkey around and sent us shit like this.

I love those turds in Monty.
DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION

I've been getting a lot of people asking me lately if i knew of any drummers or bassists. Apparently there's a massive lack of these folk around.

So I figured, to broaden my database, I'd post on my blog asking if anyone here plays an instrument. If you play an instrument, can you email me which one(s), a photo of yourself, your age and location, and a link to an mp3 of you playing the instrument as well as the type of music you like to listen to and play?

Thanks!

PONY UP

The only way I'll ever get that pony I've wanted is if Brandon's band wins the SPIN.com Band of the Year contest. Please vote for NIGHTMARE OF YOU. You can also watch a video for their song "I Wanna Be Buried in Your Backyard" on their myspace page.

By the way, only about 3 anglophiles will find this bit funny: On monday night, Gurj and a couple of her british friends went to 2nd on 2nd Karaoke to... sing. She totally ran into one of the girls from Daphne & Celeste who was there with friends singing!!!! so funny... for like 3 people (like i said).

ALL THESE THINGS THAT THEY'VE DONE

Happy Valentines Day!

HOT DAMN! I just got word from a very good friend that the Killers have GONE INTO THE STUDIO TODAY! They've gone in with Flood and Moulder to start recording their second album. I think it's expected to come out later this year. I'm so excited!

I've fallen in love ... with a boy ... no, wait... a song. The other night I was watching MTV2's "Subterranean", and I finally heard a song and saw a video by someone i've always heard wonderful things about: John Vanderslice. I was laying in bed trying to sleep and get my mind off things that had been bothering me. I was certain nothing would take me out of the mood I was in. But then "Exodus Damage" came on and i was mezmerized. It reminded me of when I first heard Nada Surf's "inside of love" as I was trying to doze off a few years ago... dreamy and tragically romantic.

I was even more won over when the chorus drifted out of my TV's speakers, "dance dance revolution, all we're gonna get, unless it falls apart." The song was so beautifully melancholic and all I could picture was Brian in his living room with his new video game. Meanwhile, this morning I was listening to the song and realized that the second verse was about planes crashing into the world trade center. So this is a political song, of sorts. Not a protest song, but perhaps more of a commentary. At least that verse.

Gurj sent me this... so cruel, but still sorta funny.

Gideon sent me this. Alf rules

This morning I told Rob that Calla could be the next Echo and the Bunnymen. COULD... not WILL. I'm realizing how important the teams behind bands are. So many great bands don't reach their potential because of the teams behind them. I hope the team behind Calla do it up. Their album, Televise is one of the sexiest things I've ever heard -- It was majestic with equal amounts of swagger and fragility. Their video was on the same episode of "Subterranean" I saw the Vanderslice video on. Fancy that... MTV is in pretty good form!

Dont you kinda wanna punt this adorable little thing?

I LIKE GRAPES

A year ago, Rob and I took the Oohlas to breakfast at iHop and offered them a deal. A year later they signed their contracts at the Beverly Hills Hotel while sipping their recoupable V-C Champagne.

DEAD TO YOU

A couple months ago, the Tarts of Pleasure's favorite groupie, Nick Manske, came out of hiding to say hi to us at the Orchard bar. He used to come out to whatever we were DJing, anytime we were DJing, and then suddenly he disappeared. This is how stoked we were when we saw him:

I just found out that Gideon's pot smoking neighbor is someone i used to work with. Small world.

I got the new Placebo album the other day. I fucking love that band so much, and their new album is sexy x10.

"Meds" (featuring VV from the Kills)
"Infra-red"

I give good interview.

Goo?(thanks gideon)

Brokeback to the Future

Christina Milian just walked by me. I love sharing a space with Def Jam. Should I have told her i loved the say she looked covered in paint and writhing on the floor?

Please vote for Nightmare of You.
Speaking of... The boys came home last night! Lisa, if you're reading this... we started watching the "Lost" DVDs. Sorry I couldn't wait, I'll lend them to you.

OOOOOOH! I WOOOONT THAT!

Last night I hopped on the subway and met up with Gideon at his apartment. When I started going through the hallways I got all stoked because the smell of weed was overwhelming and I thought "ooooooh! surely he's got some!" As some of you might know, Cartoon, the weed delivery service of NYC, was shut down a couple months ago leaving many new yorkers to not be stoned so often. Many new yorkers like myself who don't get call backs from (DELIVERY SERVICE NAME REMOVED) when I try calling them. Which made my brother lawrence very happy considering the numerous phone calls he made saying "i'm putting you in rehab! your kids will be born with webbed feet!" Now he calls saying "NO NON JEWISH BABIES!" ... now that he knows i can't get any herb.

Much to my dismay, Gideon wasn't ripping a massive bong hit. His neighbors were. I was tempted to knock on their door and be like "yo, hook a sister up."

I didn't.

So Gid took me to sushi dinner and then we went to our friend Ariel's birthday at Black and White and then i went down to Sin-e cause i forgot that my friend Max's band, the Actual, was playing. Well, apparently I forgot that they weren't playing at Sin-e, but at FatBaby, and missed them anyway. So I went home and dyed my hair black with gurj. Now i'm gothier than before. I'm gonna cut myself while listening to My Chemical Romance while hanging out with Mikey Way.... for added effect.

When Gurj and stepped out of the shower I played her the Rhianna song that I wouldnt shut the fuck up about. Go to her blog and listen to it.

FRIDAY NIGHT, FEBRUARY 3, I'M HAVING A BIRTHDAY PARTY
It's at Orchard Bar.
11 - 4 am.

Since Orchard bar is so crowded these days, it's gonna be guestlist only, SO PLEASE email me if you want to come. I want to make sure my buddies can get in, i dont mean to be a total dick asshole about it. It just sucks when I have to text gurj to leave the coat check so she can go outside and get Brandon (of all people!) into orchard bar.

IF YOU CANT MAKE IT FRIDAY...

come to the darkroom tonight!!!
it's where all the emo superstars go on a tuesday night. i shit you not.

I LOVE MONEY

OK! Let's see if I can do this.

We'll start from LAST saturday, January 21: I bid Brandon farewell for Nightmare of Ewe's UK tour opening for Fallout Boy -- which felt sort of like cutting off all my hair -- and made my way uptown to DJ Jordana the Intern's friend's 18th birthday party. What's awesome about those kids is that, thanks to Jordana, they all love really amazing music. They were dancing and bopping around to all the songs I'd typically play at Stolen Tranmission or Misshapes, and then some of the songs i'm typically too nervous to try out. I was overjoyed when I put on "Huddle Formation" by the Go! Team and the entire dancefloor filled up with upper east side girls losing their shit.

After that I hopped in a cab and went to Karen's new digs across the street from Irving Plaza. Mark Holmes was already there keeping Ms. Plus Uno company. "Holy shit, i didn't know you dated that dude!" was his greeting for me, in reference to a boy i breifly dated a few years ago, whose girlfriend breifly dated Mark. Small world. We hopped in a cab and made our way down to Movida to meet up with Mikey Way, Alicia, Gurj, Lisa, Andy Greenwald, and some dude named Buddy from an emo band... say anything or strike anywhere or something with an S. I managed to get us to the VIP room where we were treated with bottle of complimentry Grey Goose and mixers. "So this is how you roll now?" asked Andy. I used to be his intern and now he's a lusted after author of emo-books and i'm a emo herder.

Mikey and I threw down some tunes for the folks at Movida. Not sure if they were feeling our selection, and not sure we were doing a particularly good job of mixing.

But by the time our set was over, our Grey Goose was finished and we cabbed it over to Misshapes so we could be photographed... i mean, dance.

By the way, the quote of the night from saturday evening:
"I just did coke for the first time! I can't feel my teeth! Let's go to misshapes!"

Sunday I gathered a super-impromptu group of people together (it was originally supposed to be just me, gurj, josh, and lisa cause i'm trying to set two of those kids up and i'm not saying who), for brunch. It turned into a posse that found it's way back at Apartment 3A. You'd think that Geordan was Commander Stoner since he got the great idea of wanting a milkshake. After failing to find a place that would deliver, we walked across the street, bought icecream and milk and had a milkshapes party. It was glamourous and lots of black was worn. Lots of fringe was shorn. Lots of lactose ingested.

Brian and Joe from Permanent ME came over and Brian played me a new song that he wrote. By the way, PM are on my label.

Monday I stayed in the office til midnight. Fun. Actually, it was. It was way more fun when I got home and found out that I finally recieved the four Girls Gone Wild DVDs that I had ordered for Brandon for him to take on tour (d'oh!). Gurj and I got super stoked and decided to watch all four dvds and take photos of ourselves watching them.

Here is my face upon opening the box:

Here is Gurj touching a bum:

Me attempting to be the girl out of the Ring... but with GGW... i was hoping i could get inside the tv or vice versa (dont worry, lawrence, i'm not a lebanese):

Tuesday I boarded a bus at Worldwide Plaza for the Foxwoods. Island/Def Jam organized a really fucking amazing retreat for the entire company of about 200 employees. The trip sounded like it could be a total bust, but in reality it was one of the most positively constructive work-related events I've ever attended. The concept was to introduce the ENTIRE company to what would be up and coming in all of the different facets of the label and it's joint ventures (stolen transmission, having just officially started less than two months ago, didn't participate in a presentation). We got to hear the up and coming singles in hip hop, rock, r&b... whatever we were putting out. The presentations, which lasted about 6 hours, was mostly hosted by LA Reid and Jay Z. It was accented by live performances by people like Damone, Loser, Crisette Michelle, Lionel Richie, and LL Cool J, among about 30 others that you'll all probably hear about endlessly.

Two highlights of the presentation was hearing the Rhianna single for "S.O.S." for the first time. That shit is THE JAM. It's along the lines of Gwen's "What U Waiting For" and Madonna's "Hung Up." The song sample's Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love," and the track moves between new wave and pop hip hop/r&b seamlessly. I managed to get a copy of it to DJ, but I'm 100% positive that I can't spread it out. I have been playing it non-stop at my desk... Jay Z and his boy TyTy A&R'ed it. It's a hit.

Another highlight was when LA Reid played former Recover singer Dan Keyes' "Discoteque." Flashed up on the massive projector screen was a lanky white boy whose photos hardly showed off how totally gorgeous he is. Instead, he appeared slightly awkward like a Dior Homme model. When the song started blasting through the deafening sound system you could practically see the disbelief on the staff's faces. Once the song was over the room applauded. It was the only track the room applauded for. "Yup, it's a hit," said LA Reid, as he laughed in stokedness for how well it was recieved. "That was a Rob Stevenson Stolen Transmission..." me, alex, and eric speck woooed "do you guys know about Rob's new label Stolen Transmission?"
"wooo!" i said.
Jay Z found me in the crowd, laughed and nodded at me.
"it's his new label. stolen transmission."
we had been officially introduced.

This is us (rob, me, alex, and eric):

This all happened on Day 2. That evening we all congregated for dinner and then made our way back to the theatre that had become our second home. I sat down between Rob and Alex, and Jay Z took seats behind us. It was time for the evening's concert of Crisette Michelle and Lionel Richie. Crisette is a new R&B singer that LA and Jay feel insanely lucky to have on the label, and with reason. Hardly a dry eye in the audience as the gorgeous woman sang and played piano. I'm not a huge fan of R&B and even I was covered in goosebumps. But my mood was not made too mellow... Lionel came on stage and played ALL HIS HITS. I danced on the ceiling. I said Hello, it's you i'm looking for. I became a brick house. fuck yeah. I called Scott Stereogum during "hello" thinking he'd be stoked on it. Hopefully he was.

I then went with Alex and Scott from the office to the casino to gamble. Sitting down at my table, drunk as a skunk, gambling with the complimentry $25 chip that island def jam gave all of us, I was up, and then i was down on my black jack wins. Eventually Scott and Alex got into an argument with a guy sitting next to me who spent the entire time staring at my boobs, about advice i was being given. The guy wanted to prove to Alex and Scott that he knew what he was talking about so much that he threw down $110 on my hand and played it for me. I lost. Turned to the dude, patted him on the back and said "Sorry! Thanks anyway!" hopped off my stool and walked away with the boys.

We made our way into LA Reid's palacial suite where he was throwing a party. As I walked through the doors, "Brickhouse" was playing and Lionel was hanging out, smiling ear to ear and having a talk with some employees. I snooped around for a bit and found the food room where I planted myself in because of the cheese tray. The way to my heart? A tray of cheese. If I were ever on death row, that would be my last meal. "Rob! There's a cheese tray! I'm in heaven!"

Thursday we had group building activities that were productive, but by the time they were over, i was starving and tired. I was immediately brought back from the dead, however, when Jay Z got up on stage with Nas and declared their beef over for all of us to see for our own eyes. Nas, dressed in a leather motorcycle jacket and ripped jeans, complimented Jay on his maturity. I didn't know they had beef, so I was kinda confused as to what the big deal was, but apparently I was witnessing something awesome. I think what was more awesome (save for sitting behind a truly stunning Kelis), was LL Cool J's performance which was accented by him throwing about $400 into the audience and dancing on stage with a bunch of female staff members. Alex tried to get me to go up, but I wasn't drunk enough. In retrospect, I regret this completely. The image of me in a viva-grunge baby doll dress from H&M and chucks, booty dancing with LL would've been unreal. Maybe next time?

Afterwards we were treated to a massive party at the Hard Rock Cafe. I managed to shove about 3 or 4 mini-bottles of champagne down my throat. At one point i was goofing off with Rob, Alex, and Eric, showing them my ill-advised dancing skills when from behind I heard a deep voiced "Ugh, ugh, ugh." I turned around and Jay Z was dancing behind me. I turned around slightly embarrassed but not about to miss out on an opportunity to dance with HOVA, I continued dancing going "Ugh, ugh, ugh." "I miss your purple hair" the Jigga told me, "it was edgy. you should dye it back." My hair is black now. I assured him I would dye it back immediately (i'm not gonna... my hair will fall out...boy). I had him lean over so he could hear what I was gonna say "I want to be the Jay Z to Rob's LA Reid." "Good luck!" he told me before turning to Rob and yelling out for the 39th time that week "The KING OF ROCK!!!"

Alex and I made our rounds to teh various hotel rooms our friends occupied before deciding to go gambling at 5am. I lost another $25 and called it a night. The next morning, me and my hungover boarded the bus and came home.

Here is me using Alex as a pillow for my bus journey:

A few hours later I DJed at orchard bar. Had an amazing fucking time.

Saturday I got brunch with Karen and Gurj. Walked around with Gurj and then made plans for her new room. Lindsay moved out a few weeks ago and so Gurj is moving into her old room and we're re-converted gurj's old room back into a living room. knocking down the wall that was built by my dad and putting the furniature that's in my room/the living room into there. I can't fucking wait to have a real bedroom again!!! After we made our plans, Gideon came over and started talking about the war stricken lands he and his dad have visited. I wasn't about to let Gideon be a kill-joy on himself, so i sat him down in front of the television and made him watch Girls Gone Wild.

It was wild.

Last nigth I went to see Her Daily Obsession with Gurj and Lisa. We were all high off our assses from paint fumes. We had spent the day painting gurj's room purple and anything else we could paint purple. By the time I got there, Jenne had already been there for ages waiting for us. We watched at few bands and Josh turned to me and complimented my watch.
"I'm glad you're wearing that watch. I saw it on your bookshelf on the left hand side and thought you should be wearing it."
"wow you have an amazing memory!"
"yeah, i'll never forget much this band sucks."

HDO were great though. Their single is for sale. Buy it.

OK. I'm done. Tonight I'm going out with Gideon and some dudes that he thinks are cool that I thought were cool when he told me who they were when we were on the phone. I think he said paul rudd, but i'm not sure. I don't care. All i know is that Gid spent way too long in nations that are depraved and needs a bit of cheering up, and that's what I need to do. Cheer up GidRock.

SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY

THIS LINK is not safe for work. but worth it.

:) :) :D

also, if you get a chance, go to the delancey tonight to see Foreign Islands. they're playing at 11:30 and my favorite live nyc band by far.

does anyone know that band called Recover? they were on Universal? Dan Keys, the singer, is now a solo artist of sorts... goes by Young Love. Why am i telling you this? because every fucking time I DJ his song "Discoteque" the fucking dance floor fills up, people ask me who it is, karen high fives me instead of slaps me, and the kids dancing on the dance floor start singing along by the second chorus. i'm gonna try to see if i can post this song on my blog because i want to share the wealth.

Dan Keys is really tall.

For those who want to go to Austin for SXSW, you can't beat this deal. I just booked a round trip trip from NYC to Austin for $177!

i need you to love me,
sarah

THIS BAND GOES TO ELEVEN

The oohlas are looking for a drummer. From what I understand they're looking for a young drummer who can slay on drums and would be available to tour this spring behind their debut record out on Stolen Transmission.

Incase you wanted a new crush in your life... here are the Oohlas:

Fuck KidzBop. My friend Amy got her 11-year old son Dakota Garage Band for xmas. Dakota, a musical prodigy, decided to cover his favorite band, My Chemical Romance. The result is KidsBop on crack and the bestest thing ever. His band is called Life with an Astronaut.

"I'm Not Ok (I Promise)"
"Give 'em Hell Kid"

Hey... SXSW is creeping up and i'm in need of a house to throw a house party in again.

Last year the amazing Ben Brown lent us his house and we provided the booze and the INSANELY AMAZING BANDS... like... IDLEWILD, MAXIMO PARK AND MC CHRIS!

dude... Idlewild played in a living room. People who saw it said it was the best show of SXSW. Idlewild said it was one of their most favorite shows.

This year you can be sure that I'll be bringing in some pretty fucking amazing bands once again. Whoa.

So if you have a house in Austin and I can take it over, please email me: sarahlewitinn@gmail.com (Ben Brown, if you want to do it again, holla atcha girl).

Lastly, my friend Hardcore Dave is in a movie called THREAT. THREAT is coming to theaters nationwide starting in NYC on Friday the 13th of January at The Pioneer Theater (3rd St & Ave A). Click on the link to see the trailer. It looks pretty good.

FONDLE SWEATERS

Oh delightful night. There's a killer show. A killer party. A Baxter. Tonight night at Rothko is Product Shop NYC's big party! The show will feature sets by some of the most buzzed about bands, including Group Sounds, Tapes 'N Tapes, and Sam Champion. Following the music, the venue will host the We Are Scientists after-party, with dj sets from Michael Showalter and Tarts of Pleasure.

Look at these finger monkeys that Ellen posted on my myspace! you could punch their little faces in with your pinky!!! And then eat them.

Hi. Hello!

I'm in a great mood today. I'm listening to Brand New's Deja Entendu for the first time in ages and it's so fucking good. I didn't forget how good it is, but it's been so long since I've had a chance to listen to it. I used to fall asleep to this album everynight and wipe my emo tears on my pillow case. I guess i'm just a happier person these days. I think i've said "I love this song" about 83 times to Nick Snow, my intern who is sitting behind me now.

Thank you Matt Ferro for sending me Pokemon Kid.

So... what's new? Tuesday night I DJed with Karen at the Darkroom. It was your typical night, but for whatever reason, i think everyone was out to bone. People flirted, drank, flirted some more. Yeah, Lindsay Lohan and Kate Moss were there requesting songs and getting stoked over Gang of Four. I went to my friend Jessica's birthday party earlier in the night and had a bit too much to drink, so that by the time i got to the darkroom, things were a bit fuzzy. I kept on drinking. At one point Karen went to have a smoke and left me to my own devices behind the decks. Kate came up with a friend and asked if she could pick songs. I pointed her in the direction of Karen's iPod since my cds are mostly unmarked mixes. She picked out a Kinks song, i think. Her friend picked out the song "What katie did" by the libertines. Karen returned. Lindsay came up to the DJ booth and completely got stoked on us playing Gang of Four and I slurred some words to her. She's adorable. both of them pocket sized. I would throw them in my pocket and bring them to karen's where we could talk about the editors record.

Nick Snow gave me a copy of Harold & Maude cause i've never seen it. That's tonight pre-DJ activity. STOKESVILLE, USA. POPULATION: ME.

I FUCKING LOVE THE OOHLAS

Cy, short for Cyclopes, a kitten born with only one eye and no nose, is shown in this photo provided by its owner in Redmond, Oregon, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. The kitten, a ragdoll breed, which died after living for one day, was one of two in the litter. Its sibling was born normal and healthy. (AP Photo/Traci Allen)

I've been gone for over a week. Not really gone, but not blogging. I've been a busy busy bee. I've been nearly unreachable because my phone is basically broken (anyone here have a sidekick hookup because i refuse to buy ANOTHER one), and I've cut and dyed my hair. That's my big update.

All day long I listen to demos of the Oohlas and the other bands i'm working with whose names I wont mention til the ink has dried on their contracts. The Oohlas record is shaping up to be a fucking remarkable piece of awesome that I'm going to be so proud to release. Over the weekend Alex AIMed me to let me know that the oohlas were now his favorite band (possibly ever) and that he planned on marrying Oohlas' singer Ollie Tamale. I want to marry her first.

I've been seeing a lot of my friend Gideon lately. Gideon and I were inseprable back in 2001/2002 until work and a girlfriend pretty much got the better part of him and I started to only see him once every few months when he returned back from Afghanistan or Columbia or Iraq where he was working and chasing danger. Now he's escaped gun fire, ran through fields of cocaine, and grew only a few more gray hairs, and is finally home. We've brunced, we've chinatowned, we've brunched some more. Having him back in my life has been a fucking wonderful thing.

I'm not sure if anyone here was a Recover fan, but I've been getting into the singer, Dan Keys' solo work, which is a lot more dance driven. Rob gave me a demo of a song of Dan wrote called "Discoteque" that I DJed a few times at Stolen Transmission and it's been one of those odd songs that just PACKS the dancefloor no matter what. By the time the second chorus kicks in, people are singing along. Rob asked me to not play it anymore since it's a demo, but every friday I see it's name staring at me... it's like a struggle NOT to play it.

Speaking of Stolen Transmission the party, last week was one of the funnest nights for me and Karen, who was hopped up on DayQuil, our new favorite drug past time. Following ST, we had a BLAST at Misshapes, where the two of us were both on hand, seprately, helping out some guest DJs. She was with the fucking adorable Lucas of Maximo Park, and I was with Mikey Way from My Chemical Romance. I don't think Karen and I have had so much fun DJIng in ages. I mean, it started off with a Gay-Off between her, Mikey and Lucas, whom eventually won by dropping Frakie Goes to Hollywood. Mikey won the "holy shit, this song is so good" award by dropping Ace of Base's "the Sign."

Incase you're looking for something to do tonight, I suggest you go to the Darkroom around 11:30 because that's where she and I will be DJing and perhaps some of our special guests will be joining us.

Last night I went to Sushi Samba 7 (my favorite sushi place) with Brandon and Joe Nightmare. It was determined that they can't take me anywhere when I pointed for about 2 minutes at some woman's dinner and said "what is that? that looks so good!" and realized that i was turning into my aunt Jenny. We all are, I realized, when I started thinking about vacation spots based on cuisine. Anyway, Joe proved to the true misfit when he turned to me and brandon and said "Whose dick do i have to suck to get a dessert menu" just as the waiter was doing just that... which is possibly how he and brandon decided that the name of their DJ duo would be COCKS OF PLEASURE.

When the Tarts of Pleasure and the Cocks of Pleasure DJ together, it will be known as the Orgy.

I personally think that The COPs should be known as "Brandon is so far left-wing that he has no ability to see that the New York Post is an institution FOR A REASON and that I don't like it just because i'm a Jew who loves money" but that name is too long.

The Chronicles of Narnia SNL skit is still funny.

The Black Eyed Peas parody was also great.

OK, back to work!
bye!

I'M GONNA GO HUMP A FRIDGE

The lovely Karen got me Wet Hot American Summer on DVD for Hanukah. I had never seen it... and was told it was an absolute classic. So I watched it. Loved it. And am now blogging about it. I also watched The Baxtor this afternoon with BrandonR and we loved it. For those who like WHAS, "The State," and "Stella," The Baxtor is with all the same dudes. Great shit.

A bunch of people have been wondering what's going on for New Years Eve. All that I know about is Misshapes. It's gonna be a ton of fun and as a hint to who will be guest dj... let's just say that sugar, he's going down.

HOP ON THE F-TRAIN

Cause you're going to funky town... or you're going to the Lower East Side tonight to party at the Orchard Bar.

While I wont be committing myself to any hard labor to prove that i have as much of a right to complain about the now over public transportation strike, I will be playing song that will keep you warm. The strike is over. Hopefully everyone found something to be happy about. Hopefully people managed to save money and go Xmas shopping today. Hopefully, I'm hopeful.

Lastnight Alex and I went to Albany with our friends Steve and Matt to see Monty. The car ride up was just about as enjoyable as the show itself. Monty play for 20 people like they're playing for 2000 (which will soon happen, i'm sure). God bless them and their love for a good show. I can't wait til Warped Tour comes around and I can ride around with those monkeys.

If you're ever in Albany, may i suggest you check out the Red Robin and get the Onion Ring Stack. It's 13 deep fried onion rings stacked like a christmas tree and served with delightful dip. Once you have that, a burger and the bottomless fries, you can kiss your stomache goodbye. I fell into a food coma on the way home only to be woken up by Steve playing "Under Pressure" loudly on his car stereo in hopes I'd wake up and answer some Muse trivia.

Today I went Christmas shopping with BrandonR. We went to Union Square where they've got this really lovely outdoor market. The weather was pretty much perfect (sort of God's way of saying "ok, now that the subways are working, i'll give you pleasurable weather") and we got to check out all the nifty little crafty booths scattered around. I found some inspiration for future projects, and bought myself some Manic Panic hair dye so i can redo the color. I'm taking a cue from Ollie and will be going for the color called Ultra Violet. I'll let you know how it turns out.

i love you.

MMMBOP

THIS POST WAS WRITTEN LAST NIGHT AND I MEANT TO POST IT THEN, BUT I COULDN'T GET MY INTERNET TO WORK. SO GO BACK IN TIME FOR A SECOND.

Last night I took a delightful $20 cabride to the Lower East Side, thanks to that nicely planned MTA Transit strike. Oh, guess who loves spending $40 a day on cab rides? Not me, that's who. Bowery Ballroom is about 7 blocks from my house, so no matter what, if I went to the show or not, I would've had to spend that money getting from my office to downtown. Freezing temperatures makes walking in this weather not really an option. Every penny matters to me (as it does for most people), so that $40 (that it cost to get to and from work) represented $40 I wouldn't have for rent, dinner, plane tickets, and other luxuries like, say, somebody's christmas gift.

Seeing Nightmare of You play one of the best shows I've ever seen them play made up for it. All that touring has whipped my little boys into shape, making them tight like a man's anus. Brandon, high on excitement, was, dare i say, sexy on stage. Whoa. Minus that moment when he snot rocketed. Not so sexy.

After their set I met up with Brandon upstairs for a drink when Dennis from the (International) Noise Conspiracy approached us. "You know, I'm pro-strike," he said, "I think it's a good idea." Having just had my wallet totally raped (not to mention TOTALLY LOVING MONEY), I wasn't about to let that comment go unchallenged.
"You would!" I replied, "All you want is a controversy, you dont even know what you're talking about."
"You would strike too if you were promised things and didn't get them."
"Those people make more money than all of us [They make roughly $50k/year]and I just spent $40 getting to and from work. Other people don't have that money. They could've done something else like slowed down service."
"Yeah, well, I'm pro strike. I think it's a good thing and I'm going to say so on stage."
"Go ahead, and while you're at it, why don't you give all your fans $10 vouchers for cabs so they can get home."
"I gotta go."

Fuck that shit. Fuck being told by someone who doesn't even live here that this strike is a good thing, particulary when he probably got driven around everywhere by a town car paid for by his record label. Fuck that shit while his fans had to pay an arm and a leg to get to his show. You want anti-capitalist ideals? How about sharing the profits you make on the 93 different T-shirt designs with all the bands on tour? I'm typing this while stuck in a cab that will cost me another $20 ... that I've been in for the past hour. I've got to pee and I'm not exactly stoked.

On a totally different note: I DJed the SPIN Magazine Year In Music Party at Rothko which featured 2 Stolen Transmission bands: The Five O'Clock Heroes and the Spinto Band. The Heroes' single will be available for purchase in January and well, if you're smart you will have already downloaded the Spinto Band's "Oh Mandy" or more ideally, purchased it. As Karen says everytime she writes about the Heroes, I can't believe they're not signed. I can't believe I didn't sign them. Shit. Wait, maybe I should. Maybe East West should. Somebody should, this shit it stupidly good.

We Are Scientists also performed that night, but Brandon and I had had too much to drink that we actually managed to time travel and I don't remember their set at all. I think at one point I may have tried to make out with my friend Vinny, but I'm not 100% sure. I definitely sent him a text message at some point that he resent to me the next day that made absolutely no sense. I wish I knew what was going through my head at that point, and I also wish I knew what happened to an hour of my life.

Tomorrow I'm going to Albany with Alex to see Monty. They're like cartoon characters to me. I fucking love those boys. If you get a chance, go to their site and check out the videos they posted of their recording sessions. We all had a two night slumber party last week and despite sleeping a total of 4 hours in 3 days, I'd sit at home at 4am waiting for them to all arrive so we could totally goof off for a few hours. I la-la-la-la-love them.

Also, i forgot if I mentioned this or not, but Yes, Virginia are now called Permanent Me. It's so hard to get a band to pick a name sometimes. Yeesh!

ROOOOOOOOOAR

I figured I should get better aquainted with the bands that Rob A&R's (being the killers' #1 fan isn't enough), so I decided to give the new Thrice album a listen for the first time since it came out. It's not all rooooooar like I thought it would be. Actually, it's almost like a hybrid of the Deftones and Muse. I'm pretty sure their last album didnt sound like this, which may be a good or bad thing for fans. I know that a lot of Muse fans read this blog, so I would recommend it to them.

I also started decorating my work area with publicity posters that were in our closet... it's mostly a bunch of Killers images where brandon looks like Freddy Mercury. I might rasturbate an image of the Oohlas or Permanent Me so I can make it more Stolen Transmission central.

I'm not feeling too hot. I think I have a fever and my back hurts from picking Brandon Reilly up. I was really excited to see him for the first time in a month and lifted him up in the air, and I'm paying for it now. He's a light boy, but my grip was totally off.

Speaking of Brandon, Nightmare of You are Playing tonight at Bowery Ballroom with the International Noise Conspiracy and the Tarts of Pleasure are hosting the afterparty at the Darkroom. Come by at around 11:30.

Sorry for the lack of humor. I just had a bit of Moet, and that still couldnt knock me from my funk.

YOU CAN'T SPELL STAR WITH OUT ST

There's a really good reason why i haven't been posting lately: On Tuesday I officially started up Stolen Transmission Records. The proper label that will release full length albums from bands. I never thought in a million years that I would love a job as much as I do, but only 4 days in and I'm smiling from ear to ear all day long. From the moment I wake up til the moment I drop (which has been in the DJ booth a couple of nights). Our offices are located in Island/Def Jam so today I passed by Jay-Z and we said hello to each other. Last night at our holiday party, JayZ and LA Reid gave my partner, Rob Stevenson, a super awesome shout out. He is, after all, the best of the best in the rock world. Even New York Magazine thinks so! I just simply cant believe that I get to learn from and work with someone as extraordinary as Rob, and if I were to ever break the rules and get a tattoo, it would say "learn from rob."

Last weekend I went to California to visit the oohlas to check out the songs they've been working on for ST. There were moments when I sat there in their studio yelling at them. Yelling shit like "FUCK YOU GUYS FOR NOT PLAYING THIS SONG FOR ME EARLIER!" and "HOLY FUCKING SHIT." i'm so excited and proud of this band. They're making a record that I believe in 110%. They're doing something I can't help but flip the fuck out for. I can't wait til i can post some MP3s.

Apart from listening to new Oohlas music, Friday night I went with Ollie to see Cave-In. This was after having a muffin that ollie buttered for me... with some funny butter. Towards the end of the night GregOohlas decided that it looked like I needed to go home so he put me in his car and we drove around Hollywood listening to the Oohlas and I dont think I've felt so perfect in my life. I didn't want the car ride to ever stop. Ever. But once it did, i nested myself (filled with del Taco) on Ollie's couch and slept til the next morning.

Saturday me and the Oohlas went to the KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas. Two of the bands that Rob signed were playing and so we got there pretty early to see them. Thankfully we got there early enough to witness the hilarity of Avenge Sevenfold. Ollie said it best when she said that they're so bad that they go full circle and are awesome again. Somewhere there is a void that Kid Rock left open and they feel the need to fill it, and fill it they will. I wouldn't be surprised if they become huge. Am I a fan? No. Do I think it will be huge? Yes. And I'm sure the girls in Santa themed bikinis dancing on stage think so too. Next up was Thrice. The singer of Thrice sings like this: ROOOOOOOOOOOOAR. No, wait, he sings like this: ROOAAAAAAAAAAAR. They sounded killer until the sound dude fucked up during a song they were supposed to play with a string quartet and Dustin ended up singing a capella. Lucky for him, he sounded great. Then Chino from the Deftones joined him for a song.

Then Gurj's favorite band, Fallout Boy took the stage. Call me biased, but I'm buying whatever brand of emo they're selling. Tough crowd for them to take on. Dudes were screaming for Korn (or KOOOOOOOOOORN). Pete W handled the situation well and promised the crowd that they would be off the stage shortly... meanwhile i screamed for them to play "Dance Dance."

I watched the rest of the show from backstage until Nine Inch Nails came on. Ollie and our internerd friend Riley jumped into the audience and danced and sang. We were those people. "Those People" that you dont want to stand next to because they're singing too loud and dancing a bit too much. Once NIN were over we momentarily loitered and then hopped onto a bus that took us to the Renassaince Hotel to drink at the bar. We all got shit faced. Said embarassing things. Called it a night.

I managed to crawl out of bed on sunday to rejoin Rob for day 2 of the KROQ show. Sunday's show was probably more up to all of your speed: Death Cab, Bravery, Coldplay, White Stripes, and Depeche Mode. The White Stripes are unreal. They are consistantly a fucking amazing band. Jack continues to appear like a complete pscyhopath genius. Meg continues to appear to be a 5 year old with a killer rack banging on drums in hopes that her ex-husband doesnt yell at her up afterwards cause she fucked up.

Coldplay was pretty great as well. They're pretty much always sweet on stage. They're like the peanut butter of rock: satisfying.

When Depeche Mode came on, either I was exhausted from a few hard nights and completely hung over, or the energy on stage was completely gone. I ended up falling asleep at my seat. Rob's friend Lucy Walsh woke me up and said it was time to leave. DM were still on, but I beelined it to a cab so i could fall asleep. Which I did at Ollie's while watching a show on the Disocvery channel about a 750 lb man. He died.

Monday Riley came to hang with me and Ollie. We nerded out about people from message boards that we met each other on. Who is dating who. Who's met whom in real life. What they're like. A mini-board meet-up of sorts.

At the end of the night I hopped on a plane and returned to NYC, took a 2 hour nap and went to my first day of work. (I just need to interject and say that Alex Shenitsky is the best. He just brought me a bellini. apparently we drink bellini's up in this piece on fridays). My first day of work was eventful and fun and it was followed by a marathon DJ evening for the Tarts of Pleasure. First we DJed from 7-12 at the Fuse holiday party (VJ Steven Smith joined us for the last hour and killed it... he's a fucking great DJ), and then we cabbed it to the Dark Room to DJ our Modern Art party. That went on til about 4am. So that was about 8 and half hours of DJing. By the end I was passing out and being served Jagerbombs by the bartenders in an effort to keep me awake.

Wednesdeay I had a showcase at Fat Baby with Permanent Me (formeally Yes, Virginia as of this morning), Her Daily Obsession, Foriegn Islands, and Monty. Permanent Me is a new band on ST. They make me want to be 16 again and ruling the halls of the mall with my boyfriend. Their songs are undeniably catchy and I feel so fucking blessed to have them in my life.

Her Daily Obsession played their 4th show ever. Sarah's sounded stunning and I think that she's got my favorite voice of all the Madden kids. Lawrence is a huge fan of theirs, and I'm just happy that he got to finally see them.

Foreign Islands is, without a doubt, my favorite live New York City band. Seeing them reminded me of seeing Franz for the first time at Pianos a million years ago. Go see them if you ever get the chance.

Monty, like Foreign Islands, is another band you need to see live. They fall into a genre called Action Rock. They're kind of like a Bert McCracken fronted Muse with horns. Nobody at the showcase knew what to expect, but when i turned around everyone's face was lit up with a massive smile. Alex attempted to start a circle pit consisting of just me and him. He's much stronger than me (and he was much drunker) so it took the man power of myself and Permanent Me Joe to stop his attemps. It was HILARIOUS.

Last night I/DJ had a holiday party... which brings us back to where I started.

Maybe now you all get why I haven't updated in a while.

Come to the orchard bar tonight to see me and Karen DJ. For only 3 hours this time. Flirt with our coatcheck girl, Gurj. Maybe James from Foreign Islands will be bartending and you can ask him for a CD.

But first, listen to this AMAZING new song from Elefant. I think it's the best song they've done yet.

MISSHAPES IS MOVING

Misshapes will be at Don Hill's this weekend... Yes, the former home of the beloved TisWas party (where we all used to party when we were younger). Unfortunately I will be in California attending the KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas show... maybe Pete Wentz will write a song about it. If you see me at the show or anywhere else in LA, please say hi. I like meeting new people.

I PROMISE TO PROPERLY RETURN

I know that i've been lacking in any sort of personal updates. It's just a phase i'm going through ... a busy phase. I wake up, i run off to work, and remain running around til about 2 or 4am and then repeat. That sort of thing will take it's toll on a person and make them not want to update their blog. Many times it's because you realize that it was just a little over a week ago you were at MSG watching Bon Jovi, and you realize it was just under a week ago you were in Atlantic City watching Depeche Mode and the Bravery and playing Blackjack for the first time (and not losing terribly!), you realize that it was just last night that you were at home recovering from exhaustion and completely unable to leave the house until the very end of the evening. Hi, I need a vacation from fun. How pathetic?

Anyway, tonight, december 7 karen and i have been asked to dj a quickee set for the west side crowd at SWAY. thats at 305 spring street, btw greenwich and hudson (right by don hills), and we're djing from 11:30 til 1:30 while the bartenders dole out $2 shots of jack daniels.

And as per usual, the Friday night party at the Orchard Bar is still happening. Kids are still dancing. We're still DJing. Cute boys in bands are still flirting. You should be there.

WHEN YOU'RE NOT REAL YOU'RE POST MODERN

Karen is actually a good writer and a publicist, so she threw together this mock-press release for our NEW TUESDAY NIGHT PARTY:

MODERN ART, noun: a genre of the fine arts created from the mid-19th century which strayed from traditional techniques and styles.

Key words there?  Straying from traditional techniques and styles.  The Tarts of Pleasure have got that down pat!  For all of those nay-sayers who sniff at our DJ technique (yeah that is an f-in' iPod and CD mixer you see there), there are those like the kind folks at Paper Magazine who have chosen it as the ultimate in NYC DJ experiences.

The point is, MODERN ART defies logic and genre, and we have chosen to take that aesthetic back to the Dark Room where it belongs.  Our new Tuesday night party has no rules.  There will be good music.  There will be bad music.  There will be mainstream and indie.  Hell, we'll probably find reason to repeat artists multiple times a night.  It all ties in to the modern conception of bar-room DJ, an art form undoubtedly championed by the one and only Tarts of Pleasure!

MODERN ART TUESDAYS at the Dark Room
Ludlow St btw Houston and Stanton
11:30 pm – 3:30 am

Above all else, MODERN ART makes us want to rock out.

Karen wrote that.... I don't know how to write properly. I also would've bolded the wrong words.

Also, my friend Sydney has two tickets for sale for the Bon Jovi show tonight at MSG.
$180 for the pair.

FREEDOM AT LAST

I love my friend Brandon. He's one of my best friends and we share a lot in common. However, there is one thing we don't share in common and that's politics. At least once a week we get into a discussion/debate about our views on America, and rarely are they the same. This week's debate came when I wished him a Happy Thanksgiving. This launched into your typical "america raped and pillaged the natives & made a race of people their slaves... I dont feel right celebrating this holiday" vs. "my family escaped religious persecution and went from having everything taken from them in Eygpt to having a properous life in America... and while the start of this country was less than ideal, the result has been good for many people."

My dad's cousin Enzo was telling us about going to school in Egypt. Each day at school one year consisted of the Nun/Teacher making her and 4 other girls stand in the front of class as the nun said to the other students "these girls killed Jesus." Eventually, Enzo told her mom about this and her mom informed her that it was the Romans. Enzo returned to school the next day, told the nun what her mom told her and if she disagreed she should phone her mother. The teacher no longer called the Jewish girls to the front of the class. Anyway, stories like this one are fairly common in my family and so I guess my feelings towards the holiday are a bit different than El Brando's.

Here is a WEE fraction of my family:

Here's some of the dinner spread... an Egyptian Thanksgiving. Check out the grape leaves, the turkey, the beets, beef stew, okra, pita, and turkey:

Anyway... I've been so inspired to cook lately, so the past two nights I've made dinner for Gurj.

Saturday night I made yellowfin tuna burger on a roll with pickled ginger and wasabi dressing, mashed potatos topped with teriyake sauce and a salad with balsamic vinigarette:

Tonight I made seared tuna steak over carmelized onion infused mashed potatos topped with string beans sauteed in butter. To go along with this dish, I made a wasabi sauce and drizzled the plate with teriyake sauce:

The tuna steak was a little well done... but that's how i like it.
I also made guacomole for Jordan and Feng-Feng. I'm too stuffed to even look at it, but it's great.

My next project is pumpkin ravioli in a butter sage sauce.

MAZEL TOV!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
I just wanna give a big Mazel Tov to Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman on their recent wedding. I don't know either of them, but I think they make a really cute couple. I've always had a soft spot for Xtina since reading an interview she did in Interview magazine back in 1999/2000 where she name dropped Basquiat in a way that made me actually think she knew what she was talking about. I always found her to be a bit brighter than people ever gave her credit for, and the fact that she married this Jordan guy when she probably could've had any back up dancer she wanted, makes me think that she knows what's up.

Now my question to anyone out there who might be in the know: Did she convert or did they just have a Jewish wedding? She's got a tattoo with hebrew letters on her arm (in honor of Jordan), and considering the wedding was a jewish one when it could've been secular makes me wonder if she has gone the Marilyn Monroe route of becoming a jewess. Anyone know?

In other news, Gurj and Jordan have the best blogs right now. Will somebody buy them some Chanel already?

Also, Nightmare of You have hit the road with the (International) Noise Conspiracy. Click Here for tour dates. Go to their shows and tell Brandon that I say hi. Chances are I'll be talking to him via sidekick when you do it so it'll be super trippy for him... not so much for me or you.
UH HUH... SURE... TELL ME MORE ABOUT STUFF

I'm watching Al Gore's new network Current TV. It's great in that sort of hip-made-for-high-school-educational TV. At times I find it a bit... too ... gentle. I want the voice overs to have a bit more command and less VH1 Classic feel. I think that after time they'll develop a stronger voice that is less "hey buddy... what's up" and more "hi. let me tell you something important in a way you'll understand".

Either way, all the tv people on Current are REALLY HOT. Makes it really easy for me to follow.

Oh, also, SPIN.com is having a contest involving me. Exciting!!!

DELIRIOUS LOVE

Monday night I was hanging at home with Brandon watching TV when Alex texted me to let me know that Neil Diamond would be on the Tonight Show that evening. Alex knows how much I LOVE Neil Diamond, so naturally, he knew to alert me. We changed channels immediately to NBC and i pressed record on my Divo.

Finally, he appeared performing the straight up folky "Delierious Love" with Brian Wilson singing back up. I got choked up. His voice booming and his swagger still intact.

I went with Jordan to Virgin Magastore on Tuesday to pick up the album (and about 10 other cds) and they played one of the new songs from the album over the PA. I nearly started crying. I told Brandon that Rick Rubin produced the album (you can hear it on myspace) and knowing that Jason Lader, the man who produced the Nightmare of You album, works with Rick on basically everything, he texted Jason to ask him about it. Jason suggested we listen to "Evermore." When I did I realized it was the same song they played at Virgin

There's a bit in the song that goes:
Do I Know You
Did I Ever
Thought I Did
Now I Know Better
Saw the Signs, But Not the Danger
How'd You Get to be a Stranger
At My Door

He sings about love in ways that shock and touch me.

You can hear "Evermore" for yourself by Clicking Here.
GOD WARRIOR!

This is awesome... Click Here.

Also, Jordan finally has a BLOG!!! Recommended if you like fashion. He's obsessed with talking about clothes and trends. He's also straight. I love his blog.

THE NIGHT I BLACKED OUT

I don't remember much of Saturday night post 2am... or pre-2am. I forgot to eat dinner that night and had a bit too much to drink and the next thing I knew I was sort of stumbling around and attempting inappropriate things. Two friends brought me home. I passed out on the couch and one of them dutifully took off my boots, picked me up, and tucked me in. I woke up at 10am in a panic. How did i get here? Did i bring home my purse and other valuables? As I stumbled across my room still drunk (4 drinks?!?!? seriously, did someone roofie me?), i found that my friends managed to bring home the things I needed. I love my friends. They're so good to me.

Anyway, the night consisted of going to Bauhaus with Lawrence and then DJing Misshapes with Josh and Joel.

Click on the links to see photos.... like this one of me and my surrogate brothers:

YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT...

Whenever I go into the MTVu offices I never want to leave their lobby cause it's pretty much the only place where I can actually watch their channel (until i get a college boyfriend). Anyway, I was supposed to go to the Woodie Awards (which is the MTVu version of the VMAS), but I got stuck in Long Island with my gaggle of interns and missed them. I just saw that they posted the awards on their Uber site (which is mtvu online, sadly, only available on non-macs).

watch it
STUPID DOG

My friend Riley sent me this photo of his dog surfing the internet for porn and posting on message boards. His dad is in the shot too.

FUCK YOU CAT POWER

I mean, Thank you.

Cat Power - "The Greatest"

I suddenly want to drift away into nothing.

Thanks to Costa for sending this (and the spinto band) to me.
CH-CH-CH-CHANGES

How has my life changed since winning those Paper Magazine Awards? This has been the question asked by absolutely no one, but a question that I feel like I should answer. Well, the answer is: I sit at home watching family guy and getting stoned. I go to bed at night alone (minus the 39 different people crashing at my place). I thought that the night I won I'd be up to my ears in dudes, but I went straight home after dinner and crashed and have been crash landing ever since.

I love the winter.

Tonight, I think i'm hanging out with Brian. I think we might see a movie. I think I might pig out on popcorn. I think I might get an upset stomach. I think I might laugh myself to sleep while watching Degrassi and thinking about how much of a better soap opera my life would make for those canadian teen shows.

My friend Rob just had a baby on Halloween and every baby store I've passed has not gone unvisited by me. I walk in, throw down my credit card, and start spending for his little girl. Rob is like a brother to me -- the one man in my life that has no blood relation to me that i trust as much as the ones that do. If Rob told me that he thinks it would be a really good idea if I ran into traffic with my eyes closed, I'd do it. So his daughter, Kiera Ryann, is like my neice. And I want to eat her little fucking face.

I want a baby of my own one day. Sometimes I'll look at my guy friends and think of them as nothing but possible baby daddies. This one is tall. This one has good bone structure. This one has a history of alcholism/drug abuse. This one has a history of depression. This one has nice eyes. This one is never sick. That's how I've reduced my male friends in the wake of Rob's baby. Future sperm doners for the future baby that will be located inside my belly in a few years. When I turn to my many male friends and tell them that i plan on having a kid, they either offer their services immediately or leave the room. I sometimes feel like a woman at a sperm doner clinic reading the binders and trying to figure out if the guy who went to Yale but has a clubbed foot would make a better doner than the one who became a self made millionaire but never graduated high school.

That's what's been going through my mind since winning the Paper magazine award.

WOW WOW WEE WOW

Last night were the Paper Magazine Nightlife Awards. Karen and I won the most awards of the night... 3 in total, and we have you guys to thank for that! We were psyched, but it seemed as if NOBODY knew who we were, which was funny. Half the room were old school gays and club people who would never let us into their clubs if we showed up (suite 16, bungalo 8, etc). The other half were the new school gays and club kids who cheered us, which was really nice. I could actually hear people being like "huh?" from the audience when i went to collect my people's choice award for best DJ. Karen and I dedicated our Best Party award to the Misshapes for giving us our first chance to DJ as a duo.

I couldn't help but feel like a total idiot the whole night. I don't know why... probably because I really didn't feel like I deserved the awards. Best Promoters? We laughed. We feel like we're terrible promoters. Best Party? Well, we were stoked on that one, but the irony is how little monitary compensation having the best party actually throws your way. Best DJ? Whenever I manage to match a beat Karen and I look at each other in complete shock and high five each other. We can't even land the high fives.

I can't speak for any of the other awards we won without Karen, so I'll just say that winning the Best DJ (people's choice) was a bit of a surprise. There were DEFINITELY more qualified people up there... I guess I really just have to thank all of you who voted for me. Thank you so much.

I realized half way through the night that a few of my friends were missing. I have been so overwhelmed by work (I have two FULL time jobs, ack), and travel and living an episode of Degrassi, that I forgot to call a couple of really important people to let them know about the awards and to make sure that they came (bri, nik). I felt like a total jackass and could hardly enjoy myself for most of the night. One friend that came was Alex who works with me at stolen transmission the record label. Alex is a dude. He doesn't have a single bone that protudes obscenely due to rocking the coke chic look of most of my guy friends. He has full sleeve tattoos and wears snow board brand clothes. He beats up dudes at bars. This was the sort of scene he's not used to and at one point of the night i turned to him and said "i can read the look on your face: you're thinking that this is a window into my social life and you're not sure if you want any part of it." "you took the words right out of my mouth" he said as he pat me on the back.

The rest of the night was spent getting run over by people whom were either mad at us for winning, couldnt see me cause i'm so short, or really wanted to get a drink from the bar. Karen and I literally got elbowed and shoved all over the place. Even when you're a winner, you can feel like a total fucking loser.

thanks for making the following possible:
Best Promoters (the tarts of pleasure)
People's Choice Award for Best Party (stolen transmission)
People's Choice Award for Best DJ (ultragrrrl)
